why did you buy your Z?

So come on then lads "Why Did you buy your Z"

Was it for the performance?

A lot of cars go like a Z

Was it for the looks?

OK it is one of the Classic shapes

Was it for the looks you get when you are in it?

I must admit I get just as many people look at my Soarer as my Z.

Was it for the value for money?

Not many cars go like a Z for 5 grand.

or was it for the all round package?

It has to be the best!

Ps a bloke at work is on has forth Escort.

Just borrowed £5500 to buy a Si FFS.

Well I had a Mk III Supra and loved it but the attraction of a twintub over a single was too great! I paid alot more than 5K for mine initially and when me and Mrs T test drove the Z we were blown away. What a difference between a single hairdryer and having two under the bonnet! biggrin.gif

My Soup was quick for what it was but the Z was awesome.

I didn't think there would be much difference between 232bhp and 280 but man...

Wicked!

Have spent enough on it to buy a Mk IV Soup or a Skylark GT-R V-Spec but I ain't that bitter as I still love me car.

Can't wait to get it back now!!!!!! wink.gif

i got mine because the car has got everything you need, speed, looks and most of all difference, how many of these cars do you see on a daily basis compared to scoobys, bms etc not many if any at all and for the money nothing can touch it

i went from a brand new bmw 320se to a celica 2.0gti

i wanted the fastest 0-60 and top speed i could find.but also wanted a convertable

there was 3 cars-- supra(bad on corners, local garage said he new 3 that had been written off,2 guys really bad way in hospital)

a mitsi 3000---good car with 4 wheel drive

or the nissan 300 zxtt,as good 4 wheel steer

i made my mind up ON the later 2

and when i found the roof came off,i fell in love with the zed

the 1 i found which was the only 1 id seen adverised was for sale in a mercedes garage so i thought great a top class warranty 2.

little did i no i would have a snapped cam belt within a year and id see a top class legal service for mercedes wiggle out of paying for it

(take note new buyers have a good look at ur warranty agreement, they do like their small print)

not something youd expect when ya have just paid 20k at a mercedes garage for a car with 30k on the clock

WELL I LIVE AND LEARN

jay on his 3rd engine and lovin it!

FFS Jay, 20 big ones!

I thought a warranty was like an insurance paid buy the warranty company not the garage!

Am I wrong, If so I won't be doing warranty's on my cars(that was my plan)

Rick.

the first time i saw one i thought it was beautiful and ever since, i wanted one.

ive now got one and i still think the zed has one of the nicest front ends of any car.

ps... i couldnt afford a supra lol

Had turbo Nissans since 1994, seemed to be the logical upgrade from my S13 200sx, when I was old enough to afford the insurance.

Plus Z's are such great looking cars.

well i actually looked at a carrera 4 left hooker first then started thinking, then drove an R33 which i had my mind set on (but was not sure of the looks) went straight from driving that one got into the zed and it blew me away, as it was very fast in comparrison to what i had driven, and that was it when i hooked third gear he he i was looking for my checkbook at the same time. (paid a damn side more than 8 k for mine at the time)

Plus they look fantastic.

I have a 1967 midget, I needed something more relaible and something more comfortable to get me around, I fell in love with the zed when i started researching it, I wanted something quick and comfy with classic looks that wouldnt break the bank,

Hello Mate,

I bought a copy of Classic and Sportscar in 88/89 and it had a picture of Nissan's new sportscar on the front page!

From that point I promised myself one of those and now I've got three!

Mark

I had £9k to spend & it was the fastest car I could afford. Spend £5k on the car and £4k on mods wink.gif

Just some reasons why...

Autocar 16 May 1990

"Japan's first supercar has both the style and the speed to hit the established European hierarchy where it hurts"

first paragraph from the road test

"IT TOOK JUST 47 SECONDS. IN THAT time the Nissan 300ZX not only covered the two miles round Millbrook's high speed bowl at an average speed of 155mph but, more importantly, proved itself to be the first Japanese car truly to earn the title 'supercar'.

(The Supra MKIV, RX7 etc may have been faster but they were not the first, people forget that)

last paragraphs from the 1990 Autocar test

"The 300ZX is not a car of subtle charms or lights hidden beneath thick bushels. It lets the driver enjoy its high tech hardware, but, when you get right down to it, it is an up-front old fashioned bruiser which begs to be driven hard and fast as possible.

What it lacks in bloodline breeding it more than makes up for with its stunning power, stupendous presence and tremendous dynamic ability.

Porsche and Ferrari might make more charismatic supercars, but it's doubtful they are more cost effective. Beyond that, there's a real sense of occasion about driving the 300ZX. Its a true supercar, a car all keen drivers will delight in. The NS-X may be coming, but it will need to be very special to match this"

Performance Car April 1991, Honda NSX vs Porsche 911 Carrera 2 vs Nissan 300ZX

"The Nissan has been called Japans first supercar and compared (usually favourably) with both the 944 and 928 Porsches as a model at the leading edge of front-engined chassis technology."

"Its interesting to watch people's reactions when you drive past in a supercar. Driving along in the Nissan, surrounded by swooping space-age curves, pods and binnacles, I was moved to christen this reaction the Gawp Factor - a bit like Captain James T Kirk and his Warp Factor, you see."

"In the 911 it had been strictly Gawp Factor 3 - just another Porsche; another yuppie twit; next please. In the Nissan, Scotty had really done his stuff down in the engine room, and we had real Gawp Drive....Gawp Factor 5 at the very least."

"The bargin basement Nissan, while rather tinny in its packaging, has soundly engineered and well-developed underpinnings. It looks marvellous, its slingshot quick, and its fun to drive because of its surplus of power over rear-end grip...we enjoyed it immensely"

(this was a £35,000 300ZX against a £50,000 Porsche 911 and £52,000 Honda NSX)

Performance Car Oct 1992, Nissan 300ZX vs Alpine A610/Lotus Esprit Turbo/Mazda RX-7/Mitsubishi 3000GT/Porsche 968/Subaru SVX/Venturi 260.

"Without doubt, the 300ZX was the dark horse of the test. Finished in John Major grey, its familiar shape had a tendency to blend into the background, and those who hadn't tried it before regarded it as another Mitsubishi. Until they drove it, that is."

"...you feel confident about pushing the Nissan within a few miles of getting behind its wheel. When you do, you discover one of the best handling front engine/rear-drive chassis available at any price. And thats high praise indeed"

In 1996 the 300ZX was removed from the US market(continued till 1999/2001 in japan) yet still ranks 5th in the Car and Driver Top 10 Model Scoreboard for 2002 6 years after leaving the US market! The next japanese 'supercar' is the RX-7 which is 10th. No MKIV Supra, 3000GT/GTO or NSX.

I found the above information after I bought my Z, it just backs up the fact I made the right choice, as have you if your reading this.

as you may no my brother lack 300 a sickerning z, so i first thought go for something different a mr2 t bar which i had sprayed the famialy colour yellow.but i was always strangely aroused by his z and i new i should have got one first but then i said to tony what do you like about your z most and he said [i come down in the morning and take one look at my z and i say to my self f###k im rich]. i then new i had to have one and hear i am a very happy z nutter. they are not the most expencive used car but they look a millon dollers.

Hi all, this is my second z32 ,but i have owned a celica gt4 turbo, nissan 200sx,rover gti turbo coupe, loads of gti,s but the one i like the best is the 300, it has the looks ,people dont even know what it is?,it goes like stink,it does tend to rattle a bit but that is part of the fun, allthough it must have used half an oil field to keep it going though,my last one was blue mettalic, this one is yellow.sounds awful but i love it!

I was looking for a new car for about a year. I had an Astra 1.3 Merit which did me well. Got from A to B with no problem and is good comfort, but I wanted something better.

At a time when all my friends where buying better, newer cars, I stuck it out with my Astra. When I saw getting close to haveing the funds to buy a new car, I started looking.

First it was the typical boy racer cars that I looked at. Golf GTI! Nice holding the price well, but I wanted one since I was 17 but now I was 21 I wanted somthing more real.

Then looked at the VR6, and considering it was a 2.8i V6 the performance was very disapointing. I then looked at turbo cars. First Sierra Cosworth. Nice and fast but its reputation with the car thiefs hadnt left it more than 10 years later and the insurance was over £1700. Then I looked at a Mitsubishi Starion. My dad had one when they first came out and I loved it. Classic shape, the performace wasnt up to modern standards but still good. I showed it to my girlfriend. She didnt like the look of it. So it was back to the Cosworth. Then I thought of the Calibra Turbo. Again the performance was disapointing, same with the Rover Turbo Coupé, which I didnt really hear much good about them. So back to the Cosworth.

The full list of cars I looked at buying over the year where as follows, and each car I researched into before deciding, then I tried to look for a better car.

1. Astra GTE

2. Golf GTI

3. Golf VR6

4. Toyota Celica Turbo

5. Vauxhall Calibra Turbo

6. Rover Coupé Turbo

7. Ford Sierra Cosworth (2WD)

8. Mitsubishi Starion

9. Toyota Supra Turbo (Older shape)

10.Mazda RX-7 (older shape)

11.Nissan 200SX

12.Nissan 300ZX

I looked the 200SX, performace was good, but I didnt really like the look of. So it was back to the Cosworth.

I didnt really know much about the 300ZX, I only knew that Nissan made a 200SX and a 300 something. So I looked it up on Autotrader and fell in love at first site. I found 1 or 2 in my price range, but I was convinced that I couldnt afford the insurance. To my suprise I was cheaper than the Cosworth. By over £500. That is when I decided I wanted one. I was going to wait till my insurance finished on my Astra then get the ZX, but it stolen with about 3 months left till my renewal of my insurance I found one I could afford went and bought it. The rest is history.

I wanted to find a car that would push me to financial ruin, Mission accomplished!!

i was out in canada fro 3 years where i drove a nissan pathfinder (good off road suv). this baby hadthe 3 litre v6 engine in it. i was very impressed with nissans reliability. so looked for a nissan sprts car, initially looked at the 200sx, but the looks werent what i wanted. then my bro suggested the 300zx. had a look at afew and was hooked. also looked at the scooby, but the interior of those is bloody awful. so 300zx it was. best price for best performance, comfort. and there are very few around and the gawp factor is great.

I bought mine for the cheap running costs and high fuel economy !

I was driving an MR2 (old shape - still got it) and one passed me on the M11. Thought to myself that I've got to get one of those and then did nothing about it for about 2 years.

Then saw another one and started researching them.

Finally found a decent example in London and snapped her up. smile.gif

Fell in love with the shape / speeeeeeed (on my test drive I had her up to 100mph just going down the slip road ONTO the M25! biggrin.gif Everything.

Cheers

Anita.

Hi Jay,

What was the consequence of your cambelt snap? Did it bend your valves... The reason I ask is that might has broken on idle/ tickover about 1500rpm, some say I'll get away with it and some don't.

God is coming ...and he dont have stock turbos . . .

3 years ago I was looking at a Celica Carlos Sainz GT4 in a Jap import dealers showroom when the delicious sound of a V6 being started up indoors came from the next room. They had this black monster sportscar idling on a ramp that was little bigger than the car itself and it was shaking the garage roof. It was dark and you couldn't really see what it was but it sounded great. I got to have a quick look around it and from the curved aircraft style dash, the body hugging seats and the spec of the car I was hooked. Only trouble was I had £7k for a GT4 not £11k for a 300zxTT. I made the mistake of going for a test drive in it after the GT4 and was on my way to the bank manager. A journey that since buying the car has been repeated many many, too bloody many, times since. But I love it. My kids like to be dropped off at school or picked up from parties in it as it gives them street cred with the boyz and on summers days with it shining and the tops out I think it has better looks than cars 3+ times the price of the car when new. And with the upgrades done so far, most of them can't keep up with it either.
