gents,

hope you all enjoyed the zparade lap,

after i got back to the carpark i opened the bonnet & wow was my engine hot, was'nt overheating as the temp gauge was below half,

i have removed the aircon rad to aid cooling, what else can be done to aid cooling in the zed, im getting a koyo soon, so what else can be done barring vents :hyper:

I wouldn't go off the standard temp gauge bud. I've just put a Koyo in mine and that will do the job, Zcentre £268 to my door can't be bad.

I found the standard gauge only starts to rise over half at +100c so get another asap!

There must be other better performing options than the Koyo? The Koyo isn't even as good as the stock rad, its just cheaper and better than an old stock one.

What type of bumper do you have? I found the 99 spec one in my old car really helped to keep temps down compared to my first 1991 zed. Also (just my personal opinion) avoid front mount intercoolers as these block airflow to the rad, and waste the available space to the sides. There's lots of other possibilities as well: doing a minor mod on your bonnet hinges to lift the top end will give some extra air flow.

it allso helps by removing the rubber seal across the scuttle, this gives a nice air gap but you,ve got to be carefull when washin the car that not to much water gets in

im running a koyo on mine and found during every day road driving she wouldnt go above 65 degrees but, out on the track it stayed at 85!!! saying that im not running a shroud but, believe me its going back on once the tubs are sorted!!

whoa :x: is the stock rad better than a koyo?? i have removed the aircon rad, was thinking of an electric pump to flow the water around like the one they have here

so what are your thoughts guys??

there are several koyo radiator models.

the koyo racing radiators (the thick alloy ones) are much better then stock

heard of very good results of people using elec. pumps on a Zed.

You do need an electronic pump controller with it though, as the flow needs to be controlled according to the temperature. (you don't want to have it at full blow all the time).

You will need to remove the thermostat and original pump and cap of the hole.

One of the advantages is you can leave the pump and elec. fan running for a short while after the engine has been switched of....this works a lot better then any turbotimer (unless you're using turbos that are not watercooled)

Disadvantage is that these pumps are very sensitive to contamination of the coolant (like rust particles or pieces of leftover silicone gasket), which can decrease life expectancy of the pump or in worst case kill it.

thanks lymon,

very intrested in this elec mod, as you say it will be a great advantage to have it running on after the engine is switched off,

i have seen a set up where an elec fan is on a koyo, only thing is its only cooling the water in the rad as the mechanical pump isnt running!!

so has anyone here done this setup?? or anymore info on the elec fan setup??

iv'e heard some good report about the racing rad from ARC

Yeah, my car used to run about 80c all the time. If stopped for fuel etc the water temp would be 88c ish on turning the ignition back on. Start the car and it drops straight back to 80 as the pump turns again.

Your old man does body work don't he, get some louvres put in, that should let some of the heat escape!!

You 3 have a good drive back cramped up in the motor with no air con lol
