you won't get that proud feeling when you see it in a car park among loads of other boxy saloon cars.

Here, here! thats what I like about the Z

I'd take you for a drive in the Rex if it wasn't in the garaged being ported and having a bigger turbo attached to it.

You have the older Rex though I thought, not the Zed competitor FD that Stella is interested in ?

Don't forget the evo is not the most aero dynamic bus around and after 130MPH they struggle to get that extra 20MPH to get to the 150MPH mark...

Yep, I've had the NA zed stuck up an evo 6's backside from 90 to 140mph+ and I could of overtaken....gearing is very short in them.
Mate, don't get an Evo... They are good for what they are but not a patch on the TTZ... You'll never be happy with the EVO and regret getting rid of your Z... You've get better turbo spool up, more bottom end driveability and more torque...

If you mod your Z a little more to get to around the 400BHP mark then you'll be happy!!! Don't forget the evo is not the most aero dynamic bus around and after 130MPH they struggle to get that extra 20MPH to get to the 150MPH mark...

I drove a mates EVO 6 a few years ago when my Z was standard and the evo was good but it didn't impress me... It was like being in a slightly quicker RS turbo dare I say it...

Your Z is a much more slippery shape, more fuel effiecient and more exclusive.... Too many people have got Evo's and scoobies now and your back to 2Liters, family car territory!!! Best of luck whatever you decide though and it's what makes you happy at the end of the day..

youre right, there not a patch on a zed... faster acceleration, better handling, more practical, look meaner, more reliable, christ i cant ever see why he'd want an evo

The down side, you'll struggle to do 150 ....PMSL... these days you struggle to do 60 on the motorway with all the traffic never mind 150 :)

Aint you gone yet

Drove my mates evo 8, twitcy as fook.It felt like you were gonna loose it at any moment. He had it 5 days and lost it in to a field.£12,000 later it was back on the road  The bloke who fixed it couldn't beleve how much the parts cost.

Praticle depends on use....for example I can get Myself, wife, 2 kids, Golden retriever and luggage in the zed for weekend trip !! ....could'nt do that in the Evo becuase of the saloon boot(dog) ;)

More reliable...well the only other Evo owner I know has spent about 5x more than I have in repairs and maintenance than Both my zeds in the past 2 years

Acceleration - yeh, quicker of the line if you abuse the clutch to make use of the traction but once moving not as quick.

handling - yes, loads of grip...but handling prefences are a personal taste...Im a rwd fan myself.

Plus the entire driving experience of sitting high in a saloon does'nt compare to a low sports coupe.

Also, Its not just top speed...its mid-range..... compare the accleration from 40+ ....not to mention the low speed (off-boost) driveablity/power of a 2.0 4cyl with a big turbo compared to a 3.0 V6 with twins.

i am getting to the point were i am gunna sell aswell mate, it seems that it can never be fixed and 100% if the car is heavly modded and it always fuks up at some point.

i would get the evo though mate, i am looking at merc's and m3's now, maybe a supra depends on things.

lets see what happens hay.

Better handling? Maybe with a good driver then the EVO may out handle a Z 'out of the box'. HOWEVER, I've absolutely WASTED many scoobies and evos on the twisties. I'm NOT saying I'm a good driver but your standard driver will not be able to make use of the better handling correctly!!!

That's all a matter of opinion. I wouldn't call the Evo meaner or nicer looking by any stretch of the imagination. Any saloon car with an ungainly bodykit serves no purpose in the beauty stakes.

You can't compare the cars either really can you? It's like comparing a Land Rover defender to an Evo....you really gonna have superior off roading capabilites with your 4wd saloon car?

I chose not to buy and Evo and never would.

An Evo is really only any good for driving fast on twisty roads. Fun sometimes but do it all the time and it'll end in tears. Otherwise they're ugly, not that comfy and expensive to run.

RX7 are nice but a hard sprung, stubby little car. I guess it depends if you want plush or sporty more.

All depends what floats your boat. I never said the evo was nicer looking , the 300 is a pretty car ( if only from the front, never did like the back), the evo looks mean, purposeful.

Hes not looking to buy a landrover though, he's comparing 300's to rx7's and evos

Theres always a problem isnt there? FFS put the dog in the front seat and the kids in the boot!! :p

I reckon its a case of what you want to do with it. In terms of thrill the Rx7 is all over the Zed as its so well balanced and the power delivery is mental (although I can only talk from a highly tuned single turbo). The Zed is the best of the lot if you just do road driving with lots of motorways and long distance. The Evo and Rx7 are much better on the twisties, the zed is a bus compared to either of them. I don't mean that in a bad way as I really loved driving my Zed, its just horses for courses. The Zed is more of a big musclely (sp?) cruiser as is the Supra. The Evo and Rx7 are twisty warriors. The Rx7 is a very good balance as a high tuned Rx7 is faster than a high tuned Zed, but will also nearly match the Evo in the twisties low down. You'll never match a low geared 4wd with a Rwd but its about as close as you can get. There are other options which don't get talked about so much, a Honda Integra DC (whatever they're called, sorry!) will go faster round a track than a standard Zed or an Rx7 in the right hands, plus they are reasonably practical. They are more of an evo type of car I suppose, don't have the super car looks.

i chose evo as anoption cause i like the looks of the 4 5 and seven, also interested in the 4wd, ive always thought that the evo's were quite well put together and solid cars

i also chose the rx7 for the fantastic looks, the awesome power hikes for cash and the fantastic looks lol

maybe after the year i will get some cash together and finally finoish off my zed (bodywork wise) and try and get the running prob sorted once and for all (anyone fancy a night in sunderland in retur for fixing it lol) and maybe then i will fall back in love with the car again

but there are some good points in these posts, but must say im still drawn to the evo

sure does :)

rx-7 vs evo 4 onwards

rx-7

practicality 1 back seats terrible, front seats cramped, boot crap :wack:

fuel consumption 2

performance 3 in stock there not that quick, i have driven 3 and didnt do it for me, more power and single turbo

reliabilty :wack:

looks 5

evo

practicality 5

fuel consumption 3 small tank consumption aint to bad

performance 4 quick off the line lack topend but hey if you want all out off the line then you cant go wrong

reliability 4

looks 2 :wack:

this is my opinion

B0llocks, have we all failed in keeping you true to the Z cause???? :slap:

dont listen to em... you take those blinkers off!!!! :)

Mine's going up for sale in the new year. I think it's time I had a change, had the z for 8 years now. Will probably go for a BMW X5

you old git!!!!!!! just get rid and buy a decent sporty one!!!!!

Another option : Get another Zed . Neither of the others compares . Be honest , how often do you , or any of us , drive " seat-of the-pants " style ? That way lies inevitable disaster . It doesn`t matter , in reality , whether a 4WD saloon ( or estate , God forbid ! ) gets away from you at the lights in the wet . Those cars are plain ugly , and you know they can`t live with a Zed on a decent straight run . A stock TT Zed , which I wanted from day one , should be enough for anybody for road driving . It would never have occurred to me to think that it was under-powered ! Since joining this site , I see that it isn`t enough for some...fair enough , but don`t let everyone get the feeling that this car isn`t a blast as stock . Mod up if you like , but it is by no means a necessity for normal driving . Just remember those early road test reports..did any say it needed a bit extra ?

IMHO , the RX7 is a strange-looking thing , oddly proportioned , Shape-wise, windows etc..I actually prefered the older one that looked a bit 944-ish .

The RX8 looks like the wings are a bad aftermarket addition .

I expect disagreement , ( Letsdrift ;) ) , but we all have opinions :p
