I'm not reservist to say and won't hide the fact that I can't stand Christmas. But unfortunately, it seems like it's upon us again, much to my frustration. It's due to that frustration and not actually being able to get away from it which is the reason why I can't stand it.

 

People's excuse for trying to get me to like it.

 

"You get to see all your family"

 

I see them all the time anyway and all my Hungarian relatives, I hardly ever see, even at Christmas, infact, see this part of the family during summer time which is a far nicer time.

 

"Excuse to go and get wrecked"

 

Well, who actually needs an excuse?

 

"Only happens once a year"

 

True, but it lasts months due to the commercialisation of it.

 

"Just ignore it"

 

How the hell do you ignore it? It's like trying to ignore a nuclear warhead that was hypothetically detonated on your back garden.

Sorry...lovely? Christmas food is fucking disgusting, minced pies, Christmas cake, and Christmas pudding......foul. Turkey? Dry and horrible.....also wins the prize for being the ugliest poultry. As for sprouts, don't even get me started.

 

I'm agnostic, so as a Christian festival, it doesn't really have much relevance in my life. The rest is just a mass of overspending, over eating and over indulgence when 2/3s of the world are in poverty....just a little sickening really...the entire thing.

 

But the time we’re half way through December, I already want to hire a death squad out on Noddy Holder.

 

Before anyone moans at me for being a 'Scrooge', I've asked for anything that anyone wants to get me for Christmas, to take that value and give it to charity instead of wasting it on rubbish for me.

 

So, the big question, who actually likes Christmas?

i love christmas and so do my kids, nuff said :) each to there own and all that. I guess it depends on your upbringing and beliefs.

Christmas is not just a time for enjoying yourself, we should take time out to think of the real meaning and celebrate a man who gave so much to the world. So this year please take time to celebrate the birth of Santa Clause and the work he has done with the elves and reindeer in bringing us presents for all these years.

i didnt really like xmas till 6 years ago,when my daughter was born.

 

now its a fantastic time, for a few more years at least.

 

when she gets bored with it i'll be back to the old faithful. BAH HUMBUG!!

I like it, but hate the commercialisation. Having said that I've spent the last 6 months working running the software development project from hell and I've only just moved into my new house so basically I'm knackered and skint and not really in the mood for it. I'm particularly not in the mood for the (probably) 6 hour drive I'm going to have to endure to get to my parents' place on the 23rd, and it's still over a month away. I'm also absolutely not in the mood for hearing Slade and all that other Christmas music tripe played constantly every time I go into a shop (which let me tell you won't be very often for the next month). And I imagine at some point I'm going to get ticked off by the fact that I can't find what I'm looking for in Tesco because they've rearranged everything to make way for the Christmas stock. Finally I'm liable to get slightly worn down by the fact that during this supposed season of goodwill and jolliness everyone seems to be more grumpy and stressed out than usual.

 

However, if I'm honest what really gets up my nose is that only around 9% of people in this country are practising Christians anyway so why does everybody else jump on this tedious bandwagon every year? Shall we all start celebrating Ramadan as well?

about after two pints

Playing with the kids new stuff while they spend hours making a car out

i usede to hate christmass, because everyone always had someone to share christmass with and recieve presents and well wishes, i had no one but my family (wich aint very christmassy)

 

then i met ourlass, now love christmass, i get to give her things and she gives me things, we spend the whole day together going round family and friends houses having a drink and sharing even more presents

 

so i think most people who hate christmass dont have someone really special to share it with

Seriously though I like the build up from early-mid December (not September as the shops would have us do :rolleyes: ). It's always a nice atmosphere in the week leading up to Christmas but as for the day itself, it's pretty dull so I just live through it.

 

I'm not a Christian myself so I really couldn't give a crap for the whole thing (December 21st has more significance to me ;) ) but although I think the Jesus thing is rubbish I still respect the meaning it has for others.

 

Nice to have a couple of weeks off work though and New Year means going on a short holiday, enjoying a dinner/booze/fireworks etc at a hotel.
