Saw one of these on the way to work today. Think it was a 53 reg but I thought it looked amazing. Looked much better than the elises I've seen, shame its a vauxhall though. I'd love one just to thrash about it. Girls car tho int it really ;)

I like the square back end of the vx220, I prefer the little badge on the elise though ;)

Vauxhall are getting better these days though to be fair.

Ugly things, with an unslightly great big Vauxhall badge on the front :hurl:

A better performer than the elise though

Lotus actually made these for vauxhall.

That's why at the time the prices went down cos they ordered so many from lotus on contract and they weren't selling, so the price came down.

Oh I looked at these cos I saw one cheap on ebay about 6months ago, and the price of an exhaust.........£1700.

I keep hearing things about the poor reliability o the K-series engine in the Loti though.

Which might make the VX a better day-to-day car. And I actually prefer it to the Elise Series 2, thought I think the Series 1 looked the best of the lot of 'em :)

The guy I need nearly bought a 550bhp fully tracked up zed from said the vx220 was the car he most wanted and would swap it for the zed anyday as even though he'd spent £30-40k on the zed it would never go as fast round the twisties as a vx220.

Really like the VX220. Nicer looking than the girlie Elise. Better engines too. The 2.2 is good enough and the 2.0 Turbo is a stomper of a car. With CS3/CS4 Courtenay management, you're looking at over 300bhp, I think CS4 is over 350bhp, which in a car that weighs only about 950kgs, will leave almost everything on sale on the British market for dust.

I was lucky enough to have a drive in the VX220Sprint. A Vauxhall test development vehicle. Fantastic car.

A young lad that works for me has one...it is total pants inside...and I mean pants...

It's the same as the Elise and the Exige. It's no luxury car. Stripped out track weapon. Everything is carbon fibre and aluminum.

I would have a VX220 as a 2nd car runabout. But my zed is my only and main car so i like some creature comforts and to be able to sling my huge PC in the boot for LAN parties.

The Elise has no LSD.

I think the VX doesn't either.

If you drive them fast (and there's no point in having one if you don't) you'll probably spin it.

I'd still like the VX turbo though.

Nope, don't think they come with LSD, but you can buy kits from Quaife and Getrag (who make the gearbox).

This Elise's chassis is also slightly different. The VX has minor tweeks more powerful brakes with the addition of servo assistance and ABS.

If you look at VX over the years and realise that they are cars for the masses, just like Ford, then you will see that as cheap cars go they are one of the better makes (defo better than ford and rover)

So I don't get this idea of if it didn't have a VX badge on it I would like it sindrome.

The VX220 is an awsome car, it does what its meant to do very well, and the only car that can be compared to it is the Lotus, and the VX wins, is it just cos of the Lotus badge that people can't make up thier minds.

I like them all, what can be wrong with them, small, fast, good handling and more power than you could reasonably need - sounds fine to me. Someone I know has a VX220 turbo and that is fun !

Totally agree. Not sure why there is such a vast amount of badge snobbery towards Vauxhall. As much as it would pain people to read this, in recent years, Vauxhall has made a lot more interesting metal than Nissan have over here.

We have the Astra and Vectra VXR 240 and 280bhp respectively, the VX220 in both 2.2 and 2.0 turbo format, the Zafira VXR (a 200bhp mini-van), the Monaro, a 6.0 LS2 powered RWD beast. Remind me again what interesting motors Nissan sell at the moment. Only the 350Z springs to mind.
