Thanks Vini

Depends what you want at the end of the day.

I've got an aftermarket steering wheel with the correct boss. Although I need new HICAS arms for it, I'm going to keep the HICAS, it's part of the cars' identy, but you know my feelings with the Zeds. Don't want to remove anything and keep pretty much how it was. But that's my opinion.

If you drive the car hard and want as much feel as possible, then junk it. Quite a few people prefer it removed.

Junk it, less to go wrong

I'm just going for this my self, gonna remove the hicas, say has been said, it's less to go wrong, and have been led to believe it improves the cars handerling.

Nissan obviously spent a great deal of time with Hicas, it seems to me a foolish item to dispose of, they didn't just put it there as a gimmick!

High Capacity Actively Controlled Suspension. Its only good for over 30mph and under 70mph speeds over that it dont work and only turns rear wheels about 1degree either way anyway

Im planning on remvoing mine, seems extra weight that Il never make the full use of. Nissan did put time in getting it right but it only really helps in certain situations (ie 30-70 and progressive turns), in other situations it can make the back feel a bit "wooly"

Bin it and lock it up check inner and outer ball joints most are worn if they are you will still have play at the rear even with a lock bar.

The poll says its gotta go. I know that a lot of research must have gone into it but is it not just something else to go wrong? I think the "bin it" option is the way to go. Thanks for the feedback chaps.

It will be your aircon next as well! (Be amazed how light a zed could become if you ditch hicas, aircon, egr, carbon canister, aivv cats... etc) the zed diet!

I dont know 'bout that???? It will take a lot of coVINCEing to get rid of the lovely air con. :D Its my only salvation on those hot summer nights. What we must get at least 4 a year with all this global warming?

Irony of which using aircon increases global warming (reduced mpg and nasty coolant (in older systems ) lol!

My zed will be going on a diet once i get the other niggly things sorted!

The car feels alot more predictable which it removed, i loved it and i felt it handled alot better with it removed ;)

I must admit, there are times when it feels like someone else is steering the back end via remote control. Especially when you run through those deep ruts on the inside lane caused by too many lorries. Having said that I'm convinced it has kept me out of the hedge a few times!

what would removing it cosist of, would an na subframe be better than an eliminator bar, where would i start, where would it end lol

my aircon is already junked, cant remove aivv's cause of my moulded side skirts, cats have also been removed

I removed my aircon last weekend and you will be amazed at home much just the aircon rad and the compressor weighs alone!!! The car runs soooo much cooler now which has increased power and also there is no more aircon compressor drag so the engine revs up more freeley...

I've also done all the above, egr's etc and also to add to that the viscous fan which also makes for freer revving and better power... Who's needs aircon when you got T-Tops!!

Exactly, your spec sounds close to the situation i would like my zed in by this time next year. Do you have a guide for removing the aircon jon?

As for removing the hicas, i have seen a guide to doing it somewhere and it doesnt look too bad. The hicas elim bars look pretty good, and there is lots of pipe work that can be removed.

I actually did a search on here and followed a few links regarding aircon removal!!! In a nut shell if you haven't removed your viscouse fan already then you've gotta do that first to remove the radiator... Remove both of them and it will alow you access to the aircon rad... I just started un-doing what ever I found attached to the rad in hope it would pull out and it did in the end!!! You've also gotta realse any old aircon gas first but mine was empty anyway... I chopped and hacked back all the pipes as far as i could to the compressor then started to remove that... That's the hardest bit to remove, some of the bolts are easy but there isn't much room to get to some of the back bolts so you need to remove or hack off which pipe work you can leading to it... The bolts at the back are a real bitch so be prepared for a few grazed knuckles and some swaring!!! Once undone the compressor is very heavy so be careful it doesn't land on you like it nearly did with my mate!!! Put the rad back on in place and then the viscouse fan if you have one but Seriously I would get a Kenlowe as this will also save you weight and gain you power due to no Fan drag... Will rad back up with water and then go for a drive and feel the difference!!! It's well worth doing, and you Zed will live longer due to the extra cooling... Sorry I can't be more descriptive but it was litterally just a case of hack and undo things... I'm good at that!!! Do a search on here though for Air-Con pullys and Legrath is your man with the answeres!!! Hope it works out well for you dude! ;)

As for fitting a na subframe to a tt hicas car it can be a nightmare removing the balljoints in the alloy hubs when you do remove them without destroying the alloy rear hubs you need a set of na rear toe arms and some bushes to fit in place of the balljoints this is the ideal way .But if your inner rack ball joints under the rack gaiter are in good shape and your hub side ball joints are in good shape a lock bar should do the same job.

Cheers guys. Viscouse fan is on the list of things to go along with the aircon aivv carbon canister egr... Just need time to get round to it...

Thats the way I am doing it, it gives you a chance to do all the bushes at the same time, stone chip the underneath and paint it if you want, and looking at the elimination bars the cost is about the same.

No more back end play, woo hoo

Eliminator bar would be a lot simpler....you could go the whole way and fit the NA subframe but its a lot of work.

no need to remove wing to junk the AIV....just the inner arches

I kind of agree there Vini - I'd NEVER lose the air con!!

Just like I'd not buy a ZX (or any other car for that matter) without it. There have been some fine ZXs sold here (Zelda for example) but without a/c I just would not be interested........ :mac1:

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I gotta agree totally Richard. I bought my Vectra as a run around but it aint got AC and its the only dissapointing thing about the car. Its good on petrol and it is quite comfortable and OK it isnt fast but it does the job I wanted but without AC some long journeys can be a pain. The AC stays.

Aircon has to stay,

I'm sorry but if you building a strip car or track car then yes dump it, but I can't see as you will gain much if its your daily driver or even weekend toy.
