As the title suggests I am looking to buy a set of 99 spec rear lights.

Where is the best place to go?

Should I buy from a trader?

If so, who is the cheapest?

Has anyone bought them from the states?

does it work out much cheaper?

were there any problems with this route?

I was trying to think of even more questions LOL but I think this is enough for a start...

What happened with the conversion you were doing fella or shouldn't I ask?

DTA has several sets in stock :D

That's DTA (Netherlands) and not me (DTA UK). But if it makes it easier I'm happy to facilitate the transaction.

Regards,

Dan

Don't ask! it all went tits up on saturday. I got the units out no problem but I crakced one of the units when trying to open them up.

Damn that tar is sticky stuff. I've got it everywhere.

Danny - How much for a genuine set?

£340 inclusive of delivery. This is for the three panel set (ie, L-light, middle panel, R-light).

Ooooh! :wack:

If I don't take the middle panel, what is the price for the left and right units?

Can anybody do a better price than this?

I'll as to see if DTA (NL) are willing to split the sets. If you look at the ZCentre site you'll find that we're cheaper after you calculate in VAT and delivery costs on the ZCentre prices.

If you could check that would be great, Thanks Dan.

Hmm, You learn something everyday. I thought these were supposed to go for about £230 inc VAT!

Don't know where you saw the £230 figure but I've never come across a complete set under £350 plus shipping and VAT!

In any case, I'm afraid we can't split the sets and sell you just the two light clusters. I ran my own car with two 99-spec light clusters and an old centre panel and to be honest it was a disgrace to look at. The difference in clarity and general condition between the centre panel and the lights was just too big. If you are going to decide to go the 99-spec route I strongly recommend you buy the full set.

Let me know if you're still interested and I'll sort the rest out.

Best money you can spend on the arse of a Zed. Well worth buying the centre panel too. Not only will the old panel look faided and scratched in comparison, but they won't even match due the the chrome bezels that surround the lenses on the 99-spec and not the old ones.

Not sure I agree, I guess it depends on the condition of your centre panel. I have geniune 99spec left and right with old centre panel and it looks no different (except under examination when you see the chrome bezel differences).

My old black Zed had 99spec rears but with an old centre panel and it looked fine.

I have been looking at prices in the USA because we have got a good exchange rate at the moment.

I think I can get a set of rears for around $380 which should work out at about £210.

This includes shipping but does not include any potential import tax!

Does anybody know if I will have to pay import tax? how much is it likely to be? and is there any way to get round it?

Thanks again, Mike...

Average around 20.1/4% ontop of the cost including shipping costs are calculated.

Shipping costs on these is around $70-$90 for air and trust me from experience having shipped over 15 sets in before now, do not undervalue them, they can easily be damaged in transit and if broken you can ONLY claim the amount on the customs form.

TBH, if you don't want the centre piece that comes with danny's sets, then Lukes 2 piece one's really are the best option for peace of mind after saving so little and uncertainty buying from the US :)

Thanks Smithy for the info on import tax.

I am already coming to the conclusion you have just made.

Now I have to consider my priorities.

I have MOT coming up next month and, I may need a new clutch soon, can I really justify spending the best part of £300 on cosmetic mods?

I need a win on the scratch cards LOL.

Buy a spare set of old lights for £50 and try and do the conversion again mate. Just take your time heating them up and pulling them apart, if I can do it anyone can do it :)

Yeah, that's not a bad idea.

I was also thinking about going for the blacked out lights (like T-pot) just as a short term fix.

I'm finding it hard to justify spending the best part of £300 on rear lights when I could buy an xbox 360 or a new clutch or a good camcorder.

Decisions decisions...
