Think youve answered your own question buddy :D

Its all held on a maim databse, so the fookers can always tell.........If they can be arsed to look LOL

so does that mean i have to declare my driving bans then? lol

On the subject of insurance I have had my renewal quote from Carole nash and it has doubled, when i rang to find out why they said that they no longer insure these cars on a classic insurance. It was also on a 6000 mile per year limit, so anyone insured with Carole Nash beware for a shock.

I believe driving licence details are now held on a system just like DVLA database for car registrations.

My mate is well lucky. He has just come off his ban and his insurance is well cheap because he was convicted more than 5 years ago so dosent affect it. He got a 5 year ban for drink driving on a drink driving ban!

Didnt loose his licence, just got a straight ban so he is now 31 with a clean licence which he has had for over 10 years!

anyone work for insurance company who can confirm this?

anyone work for insurance company who can confirm this?

Check your insurance small print - they all state that details are held in a central database and that your details are shared among insurance companies.

If you have an accident or the car is stolen the insurance company wont hesitate to void your insurance for undeclared information - they'll use any excuse wether relevent or not.

Trust me there is more on the DVLA database than you think, (ex copper) The Police, DVlA and insurance companies all share the same info,

The police have a thing called ANPR. Automated number plate reader, Basically, a white van white blacked out windows to the rear sits on the side of the road. Inside is a very powerfull camera, It will take your number plate details from upto 3/4 mile away, and speed, If anything flashes up, (as it links with DVLA, and Insurance) alarms go of inside, Such things as No Tax, No Insurance, or vehilce has been used in crime, or speeding will flash up instantly. There is usually a cop car parked somewhere ahead, when as soon as u pass, will jump on you.

The insurance co's use the same thing, if you dont declare anything, it will flash up, that your telling porkys. Big Brother is watching U.

Can offer anyone on the site free advice, that might help u get off with a fine rather than points.

Obviously drink driving is very hard, but there is the odd thing, Hope this helps a bit.

so if i dont declare my ban to the police when they stop me they will know i have not declared to my insurance that i was banned

so if i dont declare my ban to the police when they stop me they will know i have not declared to my insurance that i was banned

The police database PNC (police national computer) does never cancel any info on someone, its always there. E.g

You get banned say 8 years ago, for whatever, and tomorrow you get caught drink driving, when charged, a record of previous offences will be produced as evidence to the court. as it was within a 10 years period.

If you are still banned, if the police stop you, they will find out sooner or later if they know what they are doing, ie been in the job for a while,

As if the vehicle is not reg to you and you cant proove your id, they have a power to arrest u on the spot, for basically not believeing you are who say you are. But if the car is in your name, and anything shows up, (didnt pay the premium, it will flash no Insurance, year u might get away with a 7 day wonder, but its olny for 7 days you will be ok. then the poo will hit the fan,

If found driving within within a certain time period of the ban, (usually 3-6 months) you will get an extra 12/18 months on top of the ban, but they are slaming people harder now, unless you can proove that the only option is a fine, ie you need to work, there is a good chance of getting anything upto 6 months, at one of her majestys bed and breakfasts.

I

yeah i understand that. but what i wanna know is if i dont declare i have had a driving ban a few years ago and take out the policy ( i know it will be void in the event of an accident) and i get stopped by the police. they do an on the spot check for insurance will they know i have not declared my ban?

Some but not all details are held in a central database.

They'll take your premium money, no worries.

If you make a medium or large claim, THEN they look into your past.

If they find any discrepancies, they void your policy and don't pay out and you're fooked.

Insurance is a 'contracy of utmost good faith' but lie to them and you're asking to be fuked in the ass.

the first check only checks for insurance, whether you are covered or not, it you are the police are not bothered. If you are insured, and do get hassle, you can allways say that u told the insurance comany and plead thats they knew., 99/100 police are only interested if you are or not. If you have insurance now, and its ok then fine, but if you a have a prang, you can bet they will might bring up some clause.

But the police are only intrested if you have insurance or not,

Because by the time they have checked it out, given u a producer, 7 days later when the notice comes up for checking , if its all in order, the paperwork is filed. They are more interested in the ones who cant produce. Hope this helps a bit. Stu

He didn't loose his licence but he got a ban????

i think he means he didnt have to retake his test. i might be wrong

I got seen speeding (so they say) by one of those portable cameras in a van by the side of the road in Bedfordshire. It was in a works van, then a week or so later, I had to take another one of the guys somewhere in the same van and he had a Sat Nav unit which he brought with us. The sat nav unit gave a speed reading of about 8-10 MPH different to the van's speedo!

Just wondering if I can get away without the 3 points? The form they send you is still here waiting to be filled in and sent back to say who the driver was etc.

Is there anything you can do to get away with these things? I have no points at the moment, but just wanted to try to keep my licence clean (insurance etc).

That's b0llocks - I've just had my renewal docs from them and it's about the same as last year

As a serving officer in hampshire at the moment i can confirm that we do check for insurance at the roadside during stops, Also whether the person holds a full licence and any mot since they were computerised, However... some insurance companies like smaller ones i.e mine, Dont subscribe to the database and you will get a hort/1 issued (7 day wonder) for you to produce your documents. If we dont beleive what you are saying at the roadside we will seize the car/bike under sec 165 of the road traffic act and it could possibly be crushed but you do have time to produce any valid documents and pay the tow away fee's and storage.

Seems harsh but some people do insist on driving with void/invalid/no insurance...These people usually have no tax either as insurance is needed to buy the tax along with a valid mot.

I would say that people who drive exotic cars of a decent value like the ones we do are usually covered by the owners and in a very good state of maintenance as its usually enthusiasts that will drive em.

Any more advice peeps....fire away

Jase

i got banned 3 and a half years ago. so legally have to declare the bans for next year and a half

yeah like points...they are on licence for 3 years but you have to declare them to your insurance company for 5 years or 2 years from the clear date

Cybernet, maybe they just don't want my custom anymore, anyway spoke to Jason at Heritage and got sorted, 7500 mile/year fully comp including my wife who has had 2 claims on her insurance this year £329. So Carole Nash can put their renewal where the sun don't shine :xxx:

Sorry mate, awkward one, as the police cameras are calibrated reguarly, to maintain that they are accurate. If the speedo and sat nav show that amount of difference, you should always go with what the vehilce speedo is saying. As if you use that as a defense it it goes to court, you can put money on it the police will have it covered, that their kit is accurate.

You can always try the im really sorry approach, and need to keep your insurance premiums down as you have too many other commitments, (family, mortgage, rent etc) chances are the pionts will stand. Sorry.
