My wheels are being refurbed this week and are currently wearing 235/40/18 tyres.

 

I want all new rubber on them - what should I go for?

 

also what is the difference between those and 265/35/18's ?

 

could I fir either?

do a websearch for a company called rochford tyres in essex .. i got my 265 35 18's avon zz3's from them at a stupid price of about £98 a corner and they grip well esp in the wet .. similar tread pattern to the goodyear f1's.. as for the sizes of your tyre you need to measure the width of the alloy then go from there

I have just been quoted £120 per wheel for new tyres - add to that the £100 per wheel for refurbing.

 

Thats £1100 for my wheels.... maybe I should look around to see if anyone is selling some on the cheap!

Keep the front tyres thin - 225 or 235. Wider ones seem to tramline more.

I have to disagree with the ability of Avon ZZ3s mate - what do you compare them to?

 

When I bought my ZX it had brand new ZZ3s all round and the grip was merely adequate in the dry but awful in the wet. I replaced them with Goodyear F1s which were in a totally different class. In fact I replaced the Goodyears 6 months ago when they were worn out and I have to say, with 2mm of tread the F1s were still gripping in all conditions, way better than the Avons did new.

Hi guys ,was gonna get my 18's refurbed an painted at cost of £600 +,but found a firm called stamford wheels in bedfordshire who sold me 2x18x8 ,2x18x9 for 530inc vat. Cool wheels too,same wheels elsewhere £850+. They got website too.

Depends how wide your wheels are.

 

Up fronts, 245 is really a Max. But if they are for your rears and are about 9" wide then I'd go for 285s. I have 265s on mine and they are a little stretched at the rear. My rims are 9.5" wide at the back and will easily fit 285s on them.

I had F1's on the back n p6000's on the front .. i find the zz3's grip better in the wet than the f1's did .. maybe its a diff kettle of fish between N/A n TT bud

For that price (£1100) you may as well get new 18's with tyres in a package!
