Soup Vs 300

Just had a little tear up with one of my mates from work. His is a Supra MK4 running 450 bhp, and there is me with my meagre 340 bhp, let me tell you his car his fappin fast!!! going to do the mad mile shortly to compare the performance difference. I've come to one conclusion I want 450 bhp!!!! now.

Took me in his car and its the fastest thing I've been in, and I've been in some quick motors Porches,Ferraris etc. I didn't realise what an extra 110 bhp wouold make such a huge difference.

What injectors and turbos would I need to run 500???

I feel the need, the need for speed!

It will take time to do this, first just make sure you have good induction and exhaust, cos any future mods could be hindered buy them.

I dont know much about this but look at Steve_E's ride, he is running about that.

Dont forget that if you go for 450bhp or 500bhp its not just turbos and chips.

I think manual gear boxes are good to around 600bhp and auto around 400-450. (This is what I have heard, no hate mail of Auto owners please biggrin.gif)

Your clutch will have to be replaced, and I wouldnt trust the Z brakes with that much power, so personally I would look at them too.

Hope you've got plenty of money to burn then Marc mate, coz it will cost you a hell of alot more to reach 500bhp than yer mate with the Soup! wink.gif

Good luck though! biggrin.gif

Well I think I'm looking at £5000, that would be for HKS turbos or JWT, uprated injectors, Intercoolers, JWT twin POP air Filters, De Cat pipes, Exhaust, and JWT Head Gaskets.

I should be able to do the work end of this year. Would the Skyline brakes be able to cope with 450-500 bhp?

My mate in his Soup spent about £4000 for his upgraded turbos and intercooler.

Good effort! wink.gif

Yep, them Skylark brakes are good. What model are they off???

Dont know.

Your decats will be £200

Dont know much about turbos but I think that will be £2000 at least.

Hiteq do up grade intercooler kit for £850.

Injectors are about £1000.

Plus it all has to go on and you are missing a few things

Skyline brakes are a good choise, but you need at least 17's on the make them fit.

So would I go for the R33 brakes or the R34?

so my estimate of £5000 is quite close, got a mechanic I've known for years who can do the engine out work, at a reasonable rate.

So if I budget for 6 K I should be able to do it.

What other bits would I need SRRAE?

Dont ask me! biggrin.gif

New clutch.

I am not too sure if the rods and pistons will take the extra pressure, so Im not too sure about them.

What ever happened to that company who said they would make intercoolers?

And personally I would get Traction Control. Me with only stock and exhaust, and with SO2 tyres causes the back end to swerve and wheels to spin.

Stuart

My car is making 500 bhp and it can easily be obtained with 5 k and as for the brakes, well mine work an absolute treat. I still think the skyline brake upgrade was the best mod i have had yet.

Stock pistons and rods are good for 550 at least and i have seen guys running 750 bhp on the wheels with stock internals and they have had no problems.

I assume you have SE CHIP ALREADY

AND EXHAUST

if you want 500 bhp get

A: 555 INJECTORS = 602 SQUID

B: PE 1420 TURBO KIT = 1985 SQUID

C: MAPPABLE ECU ?

D: SKYLINE BRAKE KIT AROUND 500-600 SQUID

And of course labour to pull engine about 650.

so it is easily obtainable.

Oh and i live about 1 mile from the mad mile so i want to come and watch this race please biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

So Warren are these your mods???

No i have Different turbos to that setup.

I have mines ecu/mines 555s/T28S Turbos/HKS SUPER DRAGGER/HKS INTAKE/HKS INTERCOOLERS.

If i cant get hold of the turbos i have on the car i will be getting a set of those pe1820s (the bigger set to the pe1420)

The 1420 is just a very well priced system.

very good ratings.

over 550 rwhp for 2800 dollars. You cant go far wrong with that kit.

This sounds like fun!

I already have Turbo Technics hybrids on as well as the obvious exhaust/inlet/JWT chip mods. Would I only need the 555's and the intercoolers for 500bhp then? What would be the maximum boost you could run with that lot and does anyone have (obviously estimated due to other mods) boost->power ratios? i.e. x psi == y bhp all things considered.

I miss my Lotus Carlton you see!

The compressor is rated to flow 14M3/min or 495cfm, which comes close to the flow rating of TD05s (510cfm). The manufacturer claims ~550rwhp @ 1.2kg/cm2 of boost for everyday/street use, and short duration (less than 30sec) max of ~600rwhp @ 1.5kg/cm2 of boost for drag use. For comparison, the GT2530 kit from HKS is rated at ~480rwhp @ 1.0kg/cm2 of boost for everyday/street use and short duration max of ~550rwhp @ 1.3kg/cm2 of boost.

So who knows the best place to buy 555 injectors?

Hi...

This is the spec of the aforementioned Supra as a comparison. It's a UK spec model so it came with big brakes and 550cc injectors as standard.

Racelogic Adjustable Traction Control

HKS "S" Type Front Mounted Intercooler

Blitz DSBC Boost Controller

Custom 3" Full Stainless Custom exhaust

Custom 3" S/Steel de-cat down pipe

Custom 19 Row Oil Cooler

Hypcars stage II Hybrid Turbo's @17psi

Uprated Fuel Pump

FSE rising rate fuel regulator

Porterfield Race pads

Full stainless steel braided brake lines

Whiteline Height/Ride Adjust shocks (KONI)

Whiteline Lowering springs

Whiteline front lower susp arm bushes

EGR system removal mod

Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres

The car is only running at 17 psi at present but should be tuned to 19-21 psi a little later in the year.

I haven't totalled up the cost of the engine work but figure this cost me £5000.00 plus labour.

regards........

Ian there is a group buy on at the moment for 555s.

Andrew has a link somewhere, or youll find it on the ttnet.

They are going at the cheapest they have ever been.

Hi Gav,

You're on mkivSupra.net aren't you???

These Koni ride/height adjustable shocks interest me big time. Tell me more mate, I bought some Blitz lowering springs for my Z but the car is being kitted soon. Coming out of my driveway at present is OK...just...but grounding out and scraping I suspect is gonna be an issue once the car is sorted!

Are these Koni height adjustables easy enough to adjust? Or is it a bit of a mare everytime?

Cheers in advance

Hi...

Yes I'm on John's BBS.

The Koni's are a bit of a disappointment on the Supra. All the ride and height adjustment has to be done off the car so it is a real PITA to change anything. Having said that some versions of the Koni shocks are ride adustable from the top mount, best to check before you commit.

All in all I am impressed with the ride and handling so I can live with the minor niggles.

There is a few dealers on TT net in the classifieds doing nismo 555's for around $800 which is a bargain they were $1200 a few months ago. I want some but I will have to send my JWT chip back and get the one for 555's.

Apart from having 555's as stock the other advantage the Soup owners have is that they can actually see their turbo's :d

Paul

i may be nailed to the cross for saying this but i think the soup engine is in all ways a better engine than our trusty z but then again it would be as its a later car.....i bet nissan wont learn from this though and the new z engine will be even worse to get at that is if they even allow you to get at it all

Toyota Straight Six = Fantastic

Nissan Dinosaur V6 = Arse

I've got a great Mpeg of a ZX and a MKIII Supra on the 1/4 mile.

Craig - can I upload it?

The supra engine is a great engine make no mistake.

But then Boost for boost a 300zx engine is more powerfull and efficient.

I spoke to a nissan engineer when i was back in South Africa (whom works on the touring car engines) and he explained to me that inherintly a v6 is a stronger engine than a straight six as it has less flex in the block hence why for arguments sake at .8 bar with the ame mods as a supra the 300zx will make more horespower than a supra at the same boost.

Im not causing a war now (as i am just relaying what i have heard)

fact: 1991 nissan 300zx tt land speed world record for front engine rear drive car (still holds today)

fact: Current Pro street world record holder for the 1/4 mile is a 300zx.

fact: im an idiot sticking up for a 300zx tt on a 300zx forum lol.

Stinky if you dont like the 300zx sell it and buy a poopra.

biggrin.gif

Toyota 3s-gte engine ace

Toyota straight six arse

apparently...heheh

at least, thats what the race teams thought. wink.gif
