Uprated Clutch

Starting to budget for a uprated clutch in the future, something capable of handling 450+ bhp, can anyone recommend a brand and supplier and an idea of cost.

Thanks in anticipation

I have been warned off CentreForce due to longevity problems and poor customer support.

I need recommendations too ....

ACT do a good range od clutches at a decent price that will hold that kinda power.

I think the one i have is the Dual Friction plate Organic Street disk not 100% sure tho and it is rated at nearly 600 crank hp (or so i was told !) you can get the single friction plate clutch that will hold up to bigger turbo HP for about 300 quid i think.

In stores this Friday ... Hurry only limited stock remains ;) ...

Mike at MJP was saying something about Marshall, or was it Mission ??? Something like that - any clues ? Think it was US based ...

Ive been doing a bit of looking around for clutches and a few people have had bother on tt net when setting up the rps or act clutch.

Cos at ultimate Z is doing a very good price on the fidenza lightened ally flywheel and the JWT clutch. I e-mailed him about them a couple of weeks ago but got no reply.

Maybee we could get a group buy together if a few of us want clutches.

I have found some good ones but they are around 450- 500 dollars

Paul

The following thread may give you some additional info: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/ubbforum/Forum1/HTML/000314.html

A couple of extra things. The ACT is heavier than OEM. It was suggested the Stillen was a rebadged ACT - not sure about the JWT.

This was my first US buy, and since then have 'discovered' Phuong at GR Racing ( http://www.eatricezone.com/other01.html ) - highly recommended and does the ACT clutch.

Paul, did the TT Net set-up problem threads have any suggestions on make the clutch lighter (for the wife)?

Thanks, Geoff

It seems like there is quite a bit of interest regarding clutches and the purchase of. I like the sound of a group buy and may be even a group fitting???

Are there any tips from those with more experience in this field??

As usual your comments are appreciated.

Mark

GB on fitting would be fun - I would like to see someone fit a clutch and resurface a fly wheel in under 5 hours ! specially if they didn't have a ramp.

ACT is heavier than stock - But when using it - still lighter that the clutch on my clio 16V that is not hydraulic you loose that lighter than light feel you get with the cardboard stock one but only the puniest of driver would complain ( mine is dual Friction plarte also so heavier than what most of you would need)

Think ACT, RPS and JWT are all very similar in quality depends on what you can get the best price for.

NOTE shipping aint the cheapest on Clutch Friction plate + Pressure plate is heavy. Also make sure you get the Release bearing and Pilot bushing with the kit - The ACT kit also comes with a Nissan allignment tool that works a treat on the Z and you will need if fitting yourself ! (not Recommended)

If we need a show of hands for Dual friction ACT clutches - consider mine firmly in the air! I *need* a clutch before the box can go back on! (Since I'll be running 500bhp ish)

There must be a dealer in this country - Johnny must be able to get ahold of them??

Simon.

Geoff, the Stillen isn't a rebadged ACT, it's Centerforce. They were previously Clutchmasters but Stillen ran into problems with that brand and switch over. I believe JWT continutes to use Clutchmasters.

I have several ACT kits in stock. If I shipped them over in one/two box(es), you guys would save $$$$ on shipping costs.

Mark,

I had a long chat with Pete at SE about clutches on Saturday and he provided me with many of the answers I was looking for. It turns out that due to reliability problems with a number of imported devices they have worked with a combination of UK manufacturers to assemble their 'own' clutch kit. The price will be competitive with many of the others but the difference is that there is no mucking around with importers and warranties that are only valid in other continents etc. I suggest you give them a call to discuss and make your own mind up, but I am now certain that my money won't be going on an imported device.

Forgot to say that I HAVE had multiple good reports about McCloud clutches, that I believe are available from Avalon Racing in the US and maybe Phoung too ???

PS Phoung, Good to see you back mate, it's been a while ...
