after experimenting with a greddy temp gauge and a hairdryer i have discoverd the sensor reacts fast enough to use as a intake temp gauge. What i need is a boss welded into each hard pipe to take the sensor and have a pair of gauges in the din slot :) one for each bank,so i need to know who can weld me a couple of bosses in my hard pipes. Ime a bit of a fanatic on intake temps as howling on the motorway for long periods i would like to monitor i/c temp plus its a bit more gauge bling :smash:

 They look good and they're from a trader on other club's, not your normal flee bay shite  , looks as if theywill do the job nicely! :p

though does anybody know the best intake temps to have? might be useless if you dont know whats too high.

ideally the intake temp on a turbocharged engine should be as cold as possible (colder air has more density = more power).

On a TT running stock turbos it's not uncommon to have intake air temperatures of over 75 degrees celcius (after the intercooler !!)

  OMG are you serious Eric?? Would this be on a hot day with stock intercoolers? (worst case scenario)

it's true, compressor outlet temps can easily be ~100 degC

no, certainly not worst case scenario !

this is when running ~12 psi with stock intercoolers on a normal day

as soon as you run above the efficiency range of the stock turbos (>14psi) you don't want to know what the intake temps are !! ( >130 Celcius !)

thats what ime saying here, charge temps can have a drastic effect on power not to mention engine damage  at least iff you know whats goin on in that department you can take various courses of action to prevent :)

I'm sure these are from Maplin or RS... definitley seen them in one catalogue!!

look good but only go to 70 degree c, thats no good on a august afternoon running 16 psi

Eric & Yas, thanks for the info. That has truly shocked me. I knew that boosting over the compressors working range generated heat but omg 130deg C is just terrable.

So are you saying the stock intercoolers are heat soaking and not coping? (upgraded SMIC would be much better?)

On my old R5GTT which was high spec 24 psi e.t.c i made my own setup from a kit maplin sell only cost me £10, just for reference i was getting 45degree's with my single core I/C i then changed to a FMIC & water injection and it would sit at 30 degree's @ 24 psi.

Infact i used to get carb freeze on motorways.

These are excellent :)

Mine fitted:

Refreshes every second or half second, and the probe is tiny so you can stick it into a hose without leaking air past the wiring. I've got it into my blanked off dump valve samco, right by the TB.

Why do people assume things are 'shite' just because they are advertised on ebay?? There are a multitude of sellers, products, etc. I think years of forums having a laugh at the odd funny listing has produced a negative opinion somehow.

Use a bit of common sense, read the feedback of listings and form an opinion before buying anything. Far too many people think they can just buy the cheapest products and expect an amazing bargain. Rant over ;)

LOL :D

I've rarely seen much over 20 degrees in this cold weather, and that's only when sitting in traffic, open the throttle and the temp drops. Long full throttle runs and it rises slowly, never v high though.

I've got a FMIC and have removed the aircon.
