hi guys, Car failed its MOT not so long back and one of the reasons it failed was because of the setup of the rear lights and that they shudnt be setup this way. Is this guy correct? if so, how should they be set up / what is the standard way and how can i set it up as standard?

Ive attached a pic of the setup as it is now.

Any help with this would be much appreciated

Thanks

rob

Something similar to mine, only my top 2 are reversing and my bottom 2 are fogs. Dont see any problem with yours tho ?!

Alan.............

its because you have 2 reversing lights on 1 side of the carkeep the 1 opposite the fog light and just remove the bulb from the other 1 thats what i done and it passed HTH

i got that on mine too, but remember where the fog light will go, even the most powerful LED fog light bulb, wont seem bright at all, my electricain/mechanic was showing me when i saw doing the conversion to Mph.

he put the most powerful bulb he had and then he put it in the same place you saying, i was like what's the point don't look like a rear fog light (but aleast it gets rid of that extra light dangling from the back bumper.

Think there is only 1 bulb for the 2 lenses on either side.

So you should have 2 reverse on the n/s and 2 fogs on the o/s ??

The fog light isnt bright enough to cover the 2 lenses, just covers the one that its in.

Ah !

What I done with mine was;

Used a hole cutter to cut 2 ,25 mm holes in the bottom of the lamp cluster (inside)

Extended my wiring and ran in 2 extra red bulbs.

Sorry about the pics, photography aint my strong point ! :)

1st pic is reversing lights, 2nd pic is fogs.

I'd question the MOT inspector - I cannot see anything wrong with your set up.

Reverse lights are not part of the MOT anyway and you only need 1 rear fog - in the centre or to the right or the car but no less than 100mm from the brake lights.

Loads of members have converted their right reverse lamp with no MOT issues. I'm sure PaulC will point out the facts - he's an MOT tester.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Main reason was coz I wanted too.

The bolt on Britax fog light was not my cup of tea !

Neither was the red illuminated toggle switch stuck on the side of the dash !!!

Moved that as well.

Was originally going for 2 reverse, n/s and 2 fogs, o/s, but thought the way I done it looked better. All in MHO of course.

I used 2 old bulb holders from an early Transit van as they fitted with a wee bit of perceverence !!

Full agreement ! :)

Peugeot 306 has only one, right in the middle, under the bumper !!

ok mate thanks. il have a word with him now if hes online. i personally thought they was nothing wrong with the setup but obviously this Wa**er thinks there is. if paul says that this setup is perfectly fine then il tell that mot guy to find another job. :xxx:

thanks for all your input

Yep, nothing wrong with that setup. MOT tester is mistaken..unless the problem was something to do with brightness (but I doubt it, if you used standard bulb types)

Exactly the same as my setup. Take it somewhere else. Easier and less hastle than an appeal.

My N/A only has 2 bulbs my right one is a fog light and my left is a reverse light. Mine passes first time every time so far. I think you might just have a finiky MOT inspector.

thanks for the input from you guys, much appreciated. and from now on i think the car will be going else where :)

my setup uses the inner breaklight for the fogs and i still retain the 4 reversing lights, cos guys face it the reversing lights are poo at the best of times.

Alan.............

Only thing i can suggest is try the rev lights both at the top and both fogs below if that possible !! need to look at my own as car up for mot on fri!!!

mine passed and the fog light isnt even as bright as the normal rear lenses. Mot tester looked puzzled when he switched it on, then asked if it was a jap import, i said yep and he passed it.

This is the best set-up, if you like the standard Uk bumper :D

Please excuse the slightly blured image, and the fact that it isn't painted properly yet :D

my setup

1st pic lights on

2nd pic fogs on

How did you wire up like that hellraiser,

Did you change bulb and holder for twin fillament stop/tail light on the inner brake

no there are two bulbs per lense on the lights. both bulbs are double filiment right.

now on the inner holder there i think is a green/red wire. cut this run a power lead via a switch and connect to this wire.

it will mean the outer section will be the break lights, inner fogs but both will be on for driving lights

hth

oh there is a diagram here somewhere i'll try and dig it out as it incorperates a relay to stop the warning light coming on
