Rear light removal.

Ok, so they are bonded in with black gloup as well as screwed in. Rear panel comes off nice and easily. But how the hell do you prise the rear lights out?

Is it a case of hairdryer on the ruddy things for 15 mins or is there a knack?

Featured Replies

You either need very strong fingers or warm & soften the 'gloup'.

(But I think you've already worked that out! LOL)

Oh, so no short cut! I have strong fingers, but I don't want to damage the old lenses.

Hairdryer it is then.

Feck knows why Nissan saw it fit to bond them in. First car I've ever come across with bonded lights! Grrrrrr

So is the light cluster bonded to the body?

Or is the lens bonded to the casing?

Or both?

Knowing the Z, it'll be both.

Every day a feggin' adventure

Both. I'm not taking the cluster apart, I'm just taking them out in readyness for my new 99spec lights.

But I've sold the current ones and want to take them out ubber careful.

Run a stanley knife around the gloop and slowly prise them away Si. It's a PITA and takes time but they should come away with no problem..

Cheers Steve, it's kind odd as there's no way of getting a blade in there. It's sealed from the back.

Will be double the pita in this cold weather mate!-get a heat gun/hair dryer on em'-they'll shift! ;) and you'll need more sealer for the new lights-but you probably figured that one!

Oh ffs. So I gotta go and get some of that? Why do Nissan feel the need to seal their lights in? No other car I've had has had this.

If you leave enough of the old sealant in place they should be fine. Mine were ;)

Will have to heat that up though I guess.

It will certainly be an easier job if you can bud...

Bloody hell! What a polva just to remove some lights! Ministry of crap design anyone?

Cheers though.

Dude, just be patient and pull them off. a stanley knife helps.

You should get a new roll of sealant with the 99 spec lights. Just roll it in place, no need to heat it.

and dont get any of the shite on ya paint, its a twaat to get off

  • Author

Managed to get them all off. Just a little bit of heat was needed. Spent ages cutting back the paint on the leading edge where the lights and panel butt up to.

For some reason mine looked like it almost had a bit of limescale on it. Been there since I got the car and was meaning to take them out and clean that egde. Looks so much better for it now quite a nice difference.

Just needs my new lights to be fitted and all is well. :)
