what is this place coming to ?

last weekend, wazza made a post about trying not to let serious posts degenerate into drivel, and i am asking again now

yesterday a perfectly good post is made by a new member asking for advice about buying a 300, and the post goes straight to an auto/manual thing

it doesn't help anyone, and the new guy is drawn straight into a running joke that only existing members know about

to be honest, i think it's a crap situation

we've got more schizophrenics than a nuthouse

for a while, the multiple identities thing was a little funny, now the horse is well and truly flogged, believe me

i dont care about what you all post, as some of the stuff is definitely funny, but personally i cant stand having to read through it on every single thread

if someone asks for serious advice, then they should get some serious answers, period.

if you want a thread that will be completely useless for it's Z value, then mark it as so, so we can all choose whether we want to waste our time reading it...

i used to post on here all day, every day, but over the last few months my enthusiasm for posting has dwindled.

the reason is because every post i try and write, i start off moaning about the useless drivel that pollutes good threads, and i dont want to be the one that moans about everything that goes on

i dont close threads very often, and i dont tell people to shut up or get lost or even ban them, i dont want to do that.

that is not what i set this forum up for. i like to think that people can be a bit sensible when left to make their own judgement about what they can post.

the problem is, once things start to degenerate into crap, it gets like a virus, and everyone starts doing it

there are a lot of members that have been on the board since day one, and even earlier if you remember bravenet, and they used to post regularly. now, they post about once a week, if at all, but i know they still TRY to read it, but it is difficult

if they dont post, then the board loses a

lot of very useful and knowledgeable people.

this board has become more like a school playground than a useful resource.

i have often asked about creating a separate forum for all the crap, but the majority vote goes with keeping it all together as it keeps the friendly atmosphere etc.

fine, i would rather keep one main discussion forum, but at least try and keep the threads related to their title

i dont really want to assign people to start moderating the forum and deleting posts that are irrelevant or just plain crap, but if i have to, i will.

but i wonder what percentage of posts get deleted... over 50% ? without a doubt !!

makes moderation a full time job.

i dont want to change the atmostphere, or stop the humour and wit that surfaces occasionally, but i do want to be able to read a thread without swearing to myself or hovering over the delete post button because it is a complete waste of everyones time.

i also want to get some enthusiasm back and start posting regularly again, please.

Just to labour the point further, this is not a traditional car club where everyone meets at the pub on the 2nd Thursday of the month or whatever. This is an international forum where anyone from anywhere can join in. So it is quite likely that the majorty of people have never met and also quite likely that many of them never will. So it is only reasonable to appreciate that many people don't know you and may misunderstand all the 'in' jokes of a few.

This is not a dig at anyone, honest, just a request to bear in mind the potential audience.

All this bleating won't make the people who've left come back, nor new people join. But if everyone is truthful, reasonable, genuine and friendly then there is no reason that (nearly) everyone should not be happy.

And I most certainly don't want to join in with a forum without jokes and people having a good time - there are other places with rules, guidelines, moderators and complainers when it's not 100% technical.

Warren,

I was one of those lemons at Billing, me and the mrs just loitered around, trying to work out who was who, in defence I'm quite shy and hadn't been on the forum very long. I did eventually talk to a couple of guys, Coogs was one of them if I remember.

It is equally daunting walking into a pub for a meeting/informal get together on your own, you may be different and so full of bravado that it doesn't bother you (don't take offence - none meant) but you are in the minority. banging away at a keyboard is one thing but face to face is another matter.

This problem was recognised and part of the solution was the clothing, admittedly we haven't had a big get together since then but when we do...

I'm looking forward to the Kemble day, I get to meet IRL some of the group and hopefully have a blast.

I'm sorry that Timmy and Matty have taken the measures they did, I did send them an email to ask them to reconsider their actions. I'm not to sure at this moment exactly why they felt they were being chastised. Their personalities added to the forum but, very occasionally, the humour was misdirected, and could have been misconstrude as clique.

You are quite right, this is a group for enthusiasts with a common bond - the 300zx, everyone should be made to feel welcome, we can only learn from other people.

End of rant biggrin.gif

Tim

Okay, understood.

I think the problem is that some people have plenty of time to read all the threads & chat all day about everything and some don't (ie. me).

Yes, you're right, if I had my way i'd like the 4 threads a day smile.gif ... anyhow... better do some work before the boss shoots me... have fun smile.gif

Hence why i think we should have a split here,

A serious threads

B general meet thread

and tttim i wasent trying to accuse but just trying ot make a point about meets and the forum, like you say easier to type then actually meet, but it shouldent be that way

At the end of the day...If newcomers don't want to chat and just want technical information then fine! There's a much larger source of information on TT net, which will answer all they want to know!

On this forum they will get to "speak" to some UK enthusiasts and hopefully have a laugh too! wink.gif Don't let it degenerate into a politically correct anoraks tea party! smile.gif

This site is a lifeline to the world of the 300ZX...not just a serious technical bulletin board..Surely?

A lot of the whingers hardly ever contribute anything, anyway!

The arguement your having now is the exact reason why I went spastic on my board. This sort of thing *could* ruin a BB. I've seen the exact same arguement on dozens of other BB's as well, so its nothing new.

I would suggest that your separate the techincal forum from the humor, ie create another forum for non technical issues.

here here........

I don't think that having this thread left on this forum will do any of us any good wink.gif I presume everyone has now read it and made their point..... Can it be deleted now so we can forget about it and carry on with what we're actually here for??? wink.gif

I just think that leaving it here will give any newcomers a bad impression etc etc etc which would defeat the point of the post really, wouldn't it??? wink.gif

CheerZ guyZ,

Andy

Sorry to bring it back to the top but hate the f@#kin site of it on my screen and want rid fast!!!

  • 1 month later...

?

Oh man, what's this doing back??? mad.gif

Well I stared reading this thread and got half way throught and lost interest due to it being of no use and full of bickering, and nowt to do with a "Zed" ...nuff said

thats the point, see how much rubbish is on this forum again and it is heading the same way as this thread again frown.gif

and needs to be read, again.New people are comming on here and doing exactly the same thing... and this is the net result again.

just a good pointer i suppose.

Craig can you delete this mate? I really don't see the point. If there is a valid reason for dragging this up to the top again, it's lost on me.

Nice one Warren, with Craig being offline and all!!!

I've just seen Craig and he asked me to let everyone know that in his absence he'd like us to all fall out with each other, to post on every other car forum that their cars are crap and they've all got small dicks, and to be really sure to give the old auto / manual thing a proper thrashing this time and not beat around the bush like normal.

Oh, and he says that white manuals are the only cars to have and if yours isn't then your gay.

That was all he said.

Except that you all smell.

Dave

your all so stupid you all miss the point dont you, except hairy lol.

Well I agree with the bit about white manuals biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

CheerZ,

Andy

DELETE IT PLEASE OR IM BUYING A NOVA!

Why don't you all just chill out for a minute, this is a good forum, and maybe you've all just lost your way a bit. I notice that people are a bit too obsessed and over protective of the ZX. I own a totally different car and my forum is boring and shite. At least this one has a bit of life in it. If you don't want to read a thread then you don't have to. Don't be so fookin uptight about it. I have met some of you guys and me thinks that you all seem like peeps who share a common interest, therefore humour and taking the piss is an integral part of the forum.

Otherwise, when you do have a meet, are you all just gonna have an indepth discussion about the tech stuff, I think not.

After a few bevvies, lets face it, topics of discussion soon turn to chicks, cars and bollox! Just like this forum! Exactly! Or should I go and buy a Supra?!!! No, fuck it, I'm off to put an order in for a new Ferrari!

Hello and sorry to bring this back to the top. I've only been using this forum since August but am able to be constantly logged in for the whole of my 12hr shifts at work, so pretty much get to see stuff as it happens and would like to have a say.

Firstly, thanks Craig -this is useful and fun place to be, cheers.

All, surely the ideal situation with this forum is that we can all log on, make z and non z related posts in the name of being an "internet community"... which is all this is during the time you are looking at the screen.

Yes, people abuse the fact that they are annonymous, and are more aggresive, patronising or argumentative than they would be otherwise as they do with all internet communities. But, we differ because we are more likey to actually meet up with each other. What's one of the first things any of you said to each other when you met, I would suspect that you found out the others persons handle on the forum. My point is, if you act like a tosser on here, then chances are you're a tosser off screen too. You build your own good reputation and, to be positive, some people on here do it very very well.

Anyway thats all basics you know that, main reason for posting on this one.....

What about if the topic starter is provided with a "No Crap" or an "I need help" click button when they post, maybe the subject could come up in big red letters on the forum, you'd search first before doing this I think ?

That way, Saturday morning, in the garage and swearing at your car cause you can;t work something out - you post and indicate that you actually are looking for some urgent help. Sarcastic comments to these posts would speak for themselves.

Another idea could be to make replies to a post a limited commodity, if the post is marked "Help" then a limited number fo replies would maybe ensure that each one was valueable ?

Clearly only suggestions, and god knows if they stand up to unpredictable e-behaviour from you lot !

lastly, - I like it on here, most people can be dead friendly and helpful and funny, and I agree - a major meet somewhere where we can get to know each other better.

"Hello my name is Adam I have a 1990 automatic TT and I like it cause it knocks the shit out of most things on the road and only cost 5 grand."

It took me ages to read this thread before I could make an observation.

As a new member I was under the impression that this site already had a GENERAL FORUM and a TECHNICAL FORUM. Correct me if I'm wrong but it appears to me that WE have the ideal set-up already. I think we should expect the odd minor disagreement/people saying the wrong thin now and again. Life is like that.

The fact that we are discussing the percieved problems is a testament to the forum. The fact that there are so many keen Zd types (of all varieties) on line putting their point tells me that this forum is a good place to enquire with, chat to and help if I can, Zd freinds like you lot.

This forum is better than a place full of really good things. KEEP IT UP CRAIG.

Firstly Let me remind you that 'I' am still here in Craigs absence and being a much bigger C**t than craig will lockdown / delete any shit that pisses me off.

Secondly - Even i haven't read all of this thread (apart from that bit from Hairsy LMAO - good to see you are still here mate ! ) - Its all a waste of space - Ive been thru too much shit this year to care about peoples opinions on bickering, name calling and space wasting. Everyone knows what is shit and boring - so dont post it.

Been thru all this shit before with tt.net and it sucked ass badly.

Just put a bit of thought into it before you press that post button and we will all get along just fine.

Z ya
