what is this place coming to ?

last weekend, wazza made a post about trying not to let serious posts degenerate into drivel, and i am asking again now

yesterday a perfectly good post is made by a new member asking for advice about buying a 300, and the post goes straight to an auto/manual thing

it doesn't help anyone, and the new guy is drawn straight into a running joke that only existing members know about

to be honest, i think it's a crap situation

we've got more schizophrenics than a nuthouse

for a while, the multiple identities thing was a little funny, now the horse is well and truly flogged, believe me

i dont care about what you all post, as some of the stuff is definitely funny, but personally i cant stand having to read through it on every single thread

if someone asks for serious advice, then they should get some serious answers, period.

if you want a thread that will be completely useless for it's Z value, then mark it as so, so we can all choose whether we want to waste our time reading it...

i used to post on here all day, every day, but over the last few months my enthusiasm for posting has dwindled.

the reason is because every post i try and write, i start off moaning about the useless drivel that pollutes good threads, and i dont want to be the one that moans about everything that goes on

i dont close threads very often, and i dont tell people to shut up or get lost or even ban them, i dont want to do that.

that is not what i set this forum up for. i like to think that people can be a bit sensible when left to make their own judgement about what they can post.

the problem is, once things start to degenerate into crap, it gets like a virus, and everyone starts doing it

there are a lot of members that have been on the board since day one, and even earlier if you remember bravenet, and they used to post regularly. now, they post about once a week, if at all, but i know they still TRY to read it, but it is difficult

if they dont post, then the board loses a

lot of very useful and knowledgeable people.

this board has become more like a school playground than a useful resource.

i have often asked about creating a separate forum for all the crap, but the majority vote goes with keeping it all together as it keeps the friendly atmosphere etc.

fine, i would rather keep one main discussion forum, but at least try and keep the threads related to their title

i dont really want to assign people to start moderating the forum and deleting posts that are irrelevant or just plain crap, but if i have to, i will.

but i wonder what percentage of posts get deleted... over 50% ? without a doubt !!

makes moderation a full time job.

i dont want to change the atmostphere, or stop the humour and wit that surfaces occasionally, but i do want to be able to read a thread without swearing to myself or hovering over the delete post button because it is a complete waste of everyones time.

i also want to get some enthusiasm back and start posting regularly again, please.

Well said M8.

Chaps and Chappettes.......

I can only but agree, having a laugh is a good thing, passes the day away but the Auto V's Manual thing has gone beyond a joke and needs to be dropped, we all own Z's (nuff said)

The multiple character thing IS funny but not when it gets abusive and stupid (Porker, rest my case!) Mr. Mayagi for example is funny without being nasty and derogatry to foum members.

I hate having to trawl through many posts of rubbish to find the useful information, some funny stuff is ok, but the bitching and back biting needs to stop, I remember when I was looking for a Z and found this forum, loads of information from Eric, Craig, Timmy, Andy, Wazza and Andy P and loads of help since from everyone mostly from Jeff (Papa Z) as he is round the corner from me.

This forum is great and so are all the people on here and it needs to be kept that way, can we afford to loose this forum or the people on it?

Didn't think so.

So lets keep the fun, humour and great tips and knowledge as it's all needed!

And lets drop the piles of useless drivel and posts that mean nothing, me and Timmy used to have conversations via the forum but we have stopped that and moved onto email (no MSN for Timmy Lad!) thus keeping forum cleaner for 'real' problems/information/tips/help/group buys/tech and many other things we would be lost without.....

I hope others follow my example....

Craig, I completely agree with you. I have been with this group when it used to be a distribution list i.e. before Bravenet.

I like you have not been inclined to use this site as it seems to have been hijacked by a few idiots that are ruining it for the rest of us.

This is a Nissan 300ZX resource and I for one have found the site a life-saver and it has almost certainly kept me as an enthusiastic owner.

This is not about censorship it's about me personally finding all the other stuff very tiresome.

My verdict is that if people want to talk about unrelated stuff then keep it to some message server or personal e-mail.

Quite frankly the site is laughable at the moment and new members who want 300ZX infomation are clearly being put off by a few members, and you know who you are.

Can we please stick to the subject please and drop the rest of the uninteresting guff.

I agree. Some posts I start to read in general interest but soon as it gets silly I stop. Its not nice for new people who are shut out from the start, making us all sound like tossers. Pardon my french.

I dont want another forum just for the tech, becuase this tends to get forgotten and posts are left there for days with out a reply, but we need to keep the fun chit chat seporate from the posts where help is needed.

I dont want this board to have all the fun taken out of it, some of the funniest things of the day are found here, and I like the little jokes inside the serious posts. I dont like it when the post just becomes a series of jokes and skits.

Just my thaughts.

Stuart

Agreed - don't want and shouldn't need the forum police here. And I'd hate to see it like TT.net (or whatever) where people just argue about trivial technical detail.

Agree with you Timmy lad,

We need to get a meet going...being locked in here gets to feel a bit restricted...

A bit of face to face chat over a pint or 10 on a night out would be Tops!

Any idea's then people?

Bounce...Bounce...Bounce...Bounce...Bounce...Bounce...Bounce... (sorry no sound!) LOL

Must admit,

I am a relatively new user(1 month old) and when I first found the site I breathed a huge sigh of relief cus it mean that I found other people who were as, if not more passionate about their Zs than me THAT COULD HELP!

However, I agree that all the drivel and smuttyness needs to be stopped. Members who don't have much technical knowledge can feel intimedated by the more knowledgable if they are sacastic in their responces.

LONG LIVE THE FORUM!!!

I couldn't agree more Craig. It seems gone are the days when this was a valauble resource for Z info. But alas many threads do degenerate into childish arguments about Z's colour and auto vs manual etc etc.

The alias names don't help; people can hide behind another name, giving them the opportunity to post stupid messages with impunity.

I like a laugh as much as the next person (maybe even more so wink.gif) but If I wan't a laugh I'll go to a funny site- if I want Z info/sensible discussion I'll visit this site. Maybe a separate NZR/'humourous comments' forum should be developed.

Keep up the good work though Craig, this must be the best Z site on the 'web (in my humble opinion!)

Cheers

Dave

ps. Bravenet, that brings back memories; especially of some lad who used to go by the name of 'Nico'- anyone know whatever happened to him? wink.gif

Basically...

I agree.. This place *is* a fun place, and yes, I like a joke as much as the next guy.. But when someone asks for some serious advice, is it too much to expect serious answers? Or at the very least, serious answers with a joke *in* them.. Rather than just hijacking his thread and turning it into another auto vs. manual debate..

And yes, I'm well aware that my very first posting on this forum sparked off another WW III in the forum of an auto vs. manual debate..

Anyway, 'nuff said.. Just gonna go back to being Mr Boring Technical Guy, oh and try and not be condescending or patronising when people ask questions (yes, I think I've fallen foul of that once.. Sorry..)

Oh and having just read DaveW's message.. Yeah - those bl00dy aliases... Sorry, to everyone who uses them, but they just annoy me.. And Timmy - Mr Magoo or whatever (same goes for Nakagima here Warren) - all that fake Japanese/Chinese typing accent crap.. Just makes it a million times more difficult to understand what you're trying to say! And it's pointless, IMHO.. Not even particularily funny.. (probably not to a Japanese person hey.. well it would be if they'd got a good sense of humour perhaps)..

Rant over.

DaveW how ya doin' matey? yep I remember Bravenet, back when there where but a few members and petrol was about 3p a litre! And I also remember a dude called Nico.....he must have vanished!

a bit long but i agree

Nick's thoroughly involved in work at the moment and does not have access to the net and is only occasionally allowed enough oxygen to breathe smile.gif The situation may be different after Yule, though. Depending on how the game he is working on goes ahead.

I agree. We need a major meet,

I havent seen any of you.

Seen DaveW going through Southport and that it

Stuart

What is needed is not people leaving but a NZR area where we can post/laugh/joke/chat and that would keep even the most techiest of people happy as the 'Kids' element of the forum will have their own section to play with....I include myself in that too, it is great having all this tech know-how in one place but it is also good to let off steam, have a laugh, poke fun at each other (nothin nasty!)

So what about it craig, a non-Z-realted area?

For the likes of me and Timmy.... biggrin.gif

Cheers,

Matty.

See the bullshit has infected your site as well.......

If any of you are interested the 200sx club are having a rr/meet at interpol in bristol. More details are on our board....

Craig has put together one of the best sites on the web related to our cars. He seems to spend a great deal of time making it work and he does not get a penny out of it. Why do you want yet another area to prat about in?

TopSquads, If you feel so passionatley about a NZR section why not set your own site up?

I just want to find answers about my car and read interesting zed related guff. Not the same old crap you see all over the web.

Simon P.

Timmy

Don't go! Enjoy your posts more than anybody else's! Need some humour to liven my day up and always enjoy your "Z related" comments on Middlehurst's supreme customer service.

Mike

Simon......

Cosider me off and setting up my own site to 'PRAT' about in.....

I was only making a suggestion...

I have your mail addresses....the people I want to contact...

Cya...around..

Bounce...Bounce...Bounce...Bounce...Bounce...Bounce...Bounce... (sorry no sound!) LOL

The same comment I made to Tim above applies to you to TopSqauds. Don't go. Some people can be so anal I'd hate to have a conversation with them in a pub. If they're having a conversation and someone makes a joke do they go off in a huff and ask them to return to the point?

Some people need to re-learn the art of conversing with other human beings.

I've found this site very helpful and the few posts I've made have been answered and my problems have been solved.

Don't make this site as boring as some other sites on the net.

Mike
