any news on the Viper front yet - I was wondering if yours is fitted yet? If not, when are you planning to do it?

 

I can't wait to see it fitted - you seem to be on exactly the right wavelength with regard to the subtlety required to get this to look just right.

i am waiting to get one done, Luke at z centre is working on it so you can buy the bumper complete with lights and housings etc, but it's taken a long while so far....

I was interested but it all sounded a bit too theoretical when it was first mentioned!

heh...well it may still be just theoretical! Actually Luke reckons the mold has been done for it or is being finished now, so it's a question of knocking a few out. He tells me it's going to be very popular, lot's of interest etc. The sticking point seems to be the light configuration. Where that has all changed, you need to have new housings and lights (mx-5 i believe) so he was working on a deal where you buy the whole lot off him and away you go.

Luke and i have been discussing this since december though, and i need to sort it quickly because mine was hit by someone, so i may go for a greddy one if this drags on much longer! Admittedly they do look good and probably would be worth the wait if you had the time....

No, I've not got it fitted yet, and I've nothing else to add to the above comments I'm afraid ! I hadn't even heard about the MX5 lights option (which concerns me a bit, TBH ! :confused: ). The original plan was to have indicators incorporated into the existing headlights - not sure how it would look if we start cutting in extra lights !

hello Konrad, so do you actually have one of these bumpers in your possession? the side lights have to change to use that bumper so the original lights all have to change so you need a plan to get around that i presume?

No, I don't.

The original plan though was to replace the two lights that are currently under the perspex headlight cover with three smaller round lights (like spot lights). One of these would be the indicator, one for the side light and main beam and one for the dip beam. The bonus of splitting the main and dip beams was that you could have both lamps on at once, either side and dip, or dip and beam. That way would both look better and give a better spread of light. The added bonus was that the the lights were to be the 'angel eye' type; like those on a BMW where the light appears to have a halo.

Luke had a choice of 2 suppliers that might be able to produce the goods !

found a really good indicator side light thingy that will fit really well with the viper.

I took a picture of it on a 300zx. Someone remind me later to post it up.

luke emailed me the viper pic fitted, and it had just a couple of little round lights below and to the side for indicators/sidelights, no fog lights at all. The original idea i suppose was that you buy the bumper from Luke and sort out the new light arrangement yourself. That was not really any good for me since my bodyshop has to do the whole painting/fitting job to completion, so i think Luke realised it would be easier to do this thing properly with proper lights included. That's what i hope will happen. I believe you have to change that centre panel between the headlights to accommodate the higher return of the viper. Anyway, hopefully it will end up that you can buy it all from Luke rather than start cutting your own holes for lights etc!

Have to disagree with you Paul - I know Luke's spent quite a bit developing the new lights already so my guess is that they're just still not ready. The first car to get the bumper at FG's has been in the shop for months waiting. I guess the owner just wanted his car back for the nice weather !

I did hear a fallback idea was to have indicators in a strip down the side of the headlights (sort of like the 350).

 

And yes, you definitely need the new centre panel - but that's included in the group buy price :cool:
