Hi,

I am getting my Zed from Japan in the next month or so and seeing I have only seen pics and an engineers report for the car I feel it would be wise to invest in a good lengthy warranty when it arrives to safeguard me against any wallet crushing repair bills!

Does anyone know of any decent warranties out there and how much am I talking about having to shell out?

I need one for a year at least, maybe two and it needs to be as comprehensive as possible with the parts covered.

Cheers all,

Justin.

Hmm, I doubt that you'll find one that's financially

viable.

If you were a warranty co. would you do it, sight unseen??

Hi Simmo,

The agent I'm dealing with, Bonsaicars does offer warranties through Warranty Wise and they told me I could get a quote when the car arrived.

I am just looking around for myself at the momet and see what sorta price and cover I am looking at. The car is auction grade 4 which is very high so am not expecting any nightmares.

It would be nice to have some kinda peace of mind though if the worst happens.

Justin.

Lol mines from Bonsai as well ;) what date is yours due in ?

  • Author

Hi Chris,

Mine is due at Southamton on the 4th December. Leaving Japan in a couple of days:)

Did you get on well with Bonsaicars? Anything I should look out for? And finally did u take them up on a warranty from them and was it pricey?

Sorry about all the questions! LOL

Cheers Chris,

Justin.

LOLMAO mines due in 4th December same boat HAHA

Get your warranty online just do a search in google for car warranties, there is loads of places doing them :)

;) All will be revealed in good time ;)

Keeping it all close to your chest! HEHE, sure you haven't bought a Supra!

We will have to keep in touch with how things are going. You not a bit scared about buying a car you haven't seen?

Dont use language like that on this board please ;) I'll hopefully have her ready mid Febuary early march time to be shown at all the major meets next year

I know what you mean about handing over a wad of cash, but wtf its only money :D

  • Author

LOL, I know what ya mean, not although I have anything else to do with the stuff!

I'm sure I read somewhere that there is some kind of comeback if the car ends up being a shed when you get it back to your house. You recall anything like that or is tha wishfull thinking?

Justin;)

Put it this way, if the car is a shed i'll be down to have "a word" and it would be in their best interests to "sort it" ;)

In essence you would placing a bet; you bet that

the car will go wrong, the warranty co. bets that it

will not.

Guess who's gonna 'win' most of the time?

Bit like those 'Extended warranties' offered with

TVs, videos etc.

Be interesting to know what the quote is.

If it's grade 4 and you have had an (Independant?)

engineer's report then you should be ok.

The warranty co. will certainly not take the 'bet'

if there is a serious risk that it would 'lose'!

Thanks for the advice Simmo, I know these warranty companies can be a bit dodgy when it comes to claims.

According to Bonsaicars, the agents I am using to import my car, the cars are checked over by the auction house and then checked over by Bonsaicars engineers. I felt that Bonsaicars inspection was based on cosmetic condition though but I could be wrong.

If I find a suitable warranty for my Zed then I will be sure to let you guys all know on here:)

Justin.

i've got a warrenty on my zed from warrenty wise, it was £370 for a year on a 1989 jap manual IIRC.

one of my turbos has blown and i should be claiming in the next few weeks so i'll let you know how it turns out, whether i get a pay out or not.

warrenty wise is under written by warrenty holdings, the chief exec of which owns a zed. i think jeff TT services it. hopefully they'll have a soft spot for the cars!

Hi Justin

As with all things, read the small print! Some warranties have so many "exclusions" it's almost impossible to make a claim.

The companies that offer them are very mich like insurance firms - they will always try to avoid a claim if they can see a way out!

steady eddy - Let us know how you get on - good luck mate!

Eddy,

Thanks for that, I know my Import agents deal with Warranty Wise so hopefully will get a good deal seeing I'm importing my Zed through them. I think the price yoiu payed was reasonable for a year seeing its no secret how much cars of the Zeds caliber can cost to repair.

Good luck with the turbos and I hope they cough up now its there turn! Would be interesting to see how you get on.

Steve,

Cheers for the advice, I will let you all know when I get some decent quotes.

Justin.

My two penneth....warranty companies do not cover wear and tear. It is very difficult to convince them that a 10+ year old car is not failing through "wear and tear". A "warranty company" refused my turbo issues bec it was not "wear and tear". I have been told they independantly verify any work on cars of this sort...!

Sorry to keep repeating "wear and tear"....

"I'm a fraud. A poor, lazy, sexy fraud."

Thanks Phil,

I guess all you can do is speak or write to the company and check where one stands when it comes to 'wear and tear' and making claims.

Justin.

Hi Justin

I bought my warranty from Private Car Warranties for £375 and got an extra 3 months free.

I've already made a couple of claims for electrical items (PTU at £300+fitting/vat etc) and a sensor. They paid up without question so its already paid for itself.

Call Mike Woolley on 0207 384 1122 for a quote

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

  • Author

Thats great Richard, I will give him a call in the near future.

Just a couple of questions, how old is your Zed and is it a TT?

What was the duration of your warranty?

Cheers,

Justin:)

Warranty companies are a nightmare... in the majority of cases they quote "sudden mechanical failure" which excludes bearings, seals, oil leaks etc... then to make maters worse they will not pay for "diagnostic" work. Which means if your motors got to be stripped to find out the problem, its not down to them... and just when you thought that was bad enough none of the garages that know how to work on your car will do warranty work because their complete arseholes when it comes to paying out ( 4 garages with mechanics ive known for years wouldnt even entertain it) ......not that im bitter and twisted ..........lol

Thanks Alfie,

Seems to be alot of bad press about as far as warranties go. I think I will be spending alot of time reading the small print when I go looking for one proper.
