Have been having friendly banter with guy at work about his tvr and my datsun as he calls it, he has a 95 n reg griffith 500 5ltr 68 k full tvr history, and yes you guessed it tonight it finally happened, we left work at same time, and the inevitable happened.

Ive driven his a few times b4 i got my tt, and to be honest i thought nothing could be quicker, its sound and feel are awesome.

We went from 40, then almost a stand still then from 100, so a good measure. result; from 40 to 80 = same, standstill to 150 = same ish to 80 after 80 i was off, i gained about six car lengths ahead, couldnt believe it im still in awe, then again from 100 i was off again, up to 140 this time, same sort of gap

When we stopped at rbout he shouted i think you got me, to which i couldnt resist shouting"yeah not bad for a datsun"

Post it up post it up :D:D make for a cool Zed kill.

Well i hang my head in shame i was mearly recalling the conversation with the salesman

anyway the speed 12 engine is actualy 2 speed 6 engines bunged together with seperate ecus controlling each and also when they tried to test the speed 12 on a dyno it broke the prop shaft due to having to much torque quite impresive!!!!!!!

Hairsy as for them being a better driving experience on their day i agree totaly my dads chimera is a fantastic drive

once again i appologise for my dumbness........... it happens occasionally

If I had a way of getting my analogue video posted or if someone else can do it. :D

yeah thats pretty easy to do.

get soemthing like

Pinnicle studios

or belkin systems have analouge capture devices for this very purpose :D

I think the point here is that a) TVR talk a lot of crap, they did say it was a de-tuned F1 engine but I think they were refering to the basic design and not that actual engine. b) Any supercar is only as fast as he or she is driving it. I am sure that Senna could have lapped an F1 circuit in a Zed quicker than most could in a 355, doesn't mean the Zed is the quicker car. and c) don't forget that only 12 or so years agor F1 cars were running 1100 to 1500bhp from a 1.3 engine (Turbo of course) I think this was Renault.;)

I must admit to finding all this talk amazing....

I knw the Zed was quick...in its own bracket but had no idea it could do a TVR. Reminds me of a time I was driving on the A41 to Chester. I was in me old MR2 at the time, cruising down the dual carriageway and a 355 rocketed past me. About a second later came a 300ZX...never even saw it coming. I had no idea what a Zed was then mind...wonder who won?

And to think, when I was ordering my shiny titanium key earlier today, the guy down at the Nissan dealer asked when I would be "upgrading" to the Z33....LOL!!

NEVER!!!!!!:D :D

Speed 12 is a 7.8litre and has never been released.

F1 cars are 3 Litre and can be either what ever engine configure you want. The early Ferrari used V12 while every one used V10. The engine ended up being too thirsty so they changed to V10 after about 2 seasons with the V12.

F1 cars used to be 1.5litre turbo engines and when unresticted could produce over 1000bhp. Dont know how long they would last at that power though.

Grant, if you want you can send the Vid to me and I will put it on the net.

It is now compulsery to run a V10.

When the engines where at full boost they would only do a few laps and then they melted - Typically they where only at this level during qualifying. But there are stories of Our Nigel chasing down a car with full boost - but then engine blew up coz of the strain.

V10 should also be lighter than a V12 :D

There's a Ferrari F1 engine in the foyer near where my office is, and it is V10.

If there was no restriction to F1, I wonder what the optimum engine configuration would be ? V10 ? V12 ? 5-litre ? 3-litre turbo ? ;)

I'd love to see a return to the days of turbocharged f1 cars.

Having turbo cars and no fuel stops would mean that drivers could really have a blast near the end, or when trying to overtake.

Therefore there would be more overtaking than there is now and the pit stops would be exciting again (at the moment it's just a case of waiting until the fuel's gone in).

I reckon they would use 3.5 tio 4.5 turbo configuration.

I agree with Dave about the 1.5 Turbo and no fueling. Again they had to over take on the track on not in the pits. I loved the 3-4 second pitstops.

Also all the cars started with a full tank or enough fuel to last them till the end, so the start was a level playing field, not this one is on a two stop and ones on a three stop. Cos what would happen is the three stop shoots ahead, no action there and because the pit stops are staggered they are never close to eachother again.

Also with the turbo you could turn up the boost and give your car that extra speed, at the risk of blowing an engine. 1st v 2nd, 2nd could up the boost to catch up, which 1st wouldnt really want to risk it. Makes great viewing.

Stuart

Surely the fact is he drives a TVR and when it goes tits up you can pass him with much more ease.

hehehehe

dad's driving an 1995 Aston Vantage at the moment.... I didn't even try!

Weigh's about twice as much as the zed, is ten times louder and huge... and it'll still waste me!

yeah that would really liven things up. :)

It would be ace, 2000bhp 2l engines would be just awesome.

I seem to remember that the old 1.5L tubos had a boost power button on the steering wheel to give it an extra push when over taking down the straights! Nigel Mansell said in an interview that it was an extra and instant 100BHP!!

Nix.....the VANTAGE is my favourite car ever...period...no question. Yer dad's a lucky bloke!:D

Very... *love* the Vantage! I'll have one one day!!! :)

anything that weighs 2.6 tonnes and *still* hurls itself to 60mph in less than 4 secounds is good :)

He says its not going as well as it was when he first got it, and being so unreliable i dont dispute that. He also says his mechanic slightly de tuned it due to the amount of times its broke down, and particularly because of one time overheating and blowing head gasket, what can de tune it, would it just be retarding the timing or something???, it certainly sounded healthy, no missing spluttering and went up high in revs v quickly. maybe its right or maybe its sour grapes, but he is also telling people i whooped him, and if it was retarded, how much diff would it make???? Any way im still rolling about laughing at wot tt tim said about vicky butler munterson "CLASS"

As for some of the cebras and tuscans they actually have detuned f1 engines so damn impressive we can stay with them atall considering how much more we probably weigh than then too!!!!

eh? I wish!

The V8 Cerbera's (4.2 and 4.5) have detuned Tuscan race engines (although it's the 4.5 that is actually raced with). That's the racing tuscan open top thing- not the road car. Flat plane crank, sound like a bag of nails when cold- the whole lot.

The road going Tuscans and the Cerbera Speed 6 have 4 litre straight sixes in 'em. No V8 and certainly no F1 V10!!!!

As for speed - I sold my Cerb (4.2) and bought a Zed. It has to be said there's not much in it when rolling and on boost - further evidenced by the fact that my mate still has a Cerb (4.2 again) and can't get too far away from me :D

But.. unfortunately I do think my Cerb was faster than my zed (even with some stuff done to the zed).

Thing is - the 4.5's waaay different and would waste most cars. No question.

But my bike on the other hand....;) Raced my mate from the lights a couple of weeks back ... slow get away but then when the revs got round to about 9/10k..... see... you...later.....

Oh yeah - and Hairsy's right - TVR's cost a f*cking fortune to run! For me the Zed AND the bike is a means to save money!

Drove the factory red rose 4.5 Cerbera last year, and have to say it was awsome. OK in a straight line it didn't feel that much faster than the Z, but it was deceptive, if you looked at the speedo it was MUCH faster.

All in though it was in a completely different league. Steering was perfect and it handled far better. The brakes were unbelievable.

Much as I love my Z, I'm saving for a Cerb.

Drove (and raced against) my friends TVR Tuscan a while back.

Frighteningly fast car. Made my Z (which was at stage 3 then) look like a fiesta, simply blew it off the road in any gear at any speed.

That said it broke down on the way to Ireland from the Uk, and broke down on the way back, and had to be trailered home.

And we complain about the reliablity of our ten year old Zs ;)

Remember it feels a lot faster than it really is when your sitting in a noisy bumpy plastic box with your ar5e 3 inches off the ground.

:D

Yeah thats very true, i dont think the z gives an impression of speed like some performance stuff, but when you watch how quick the speedo goes up its unreal compared to the feeling your getting, especialy after the ton, it really surprises me:)
