Is there much difference worth worrying about? Hids4u.co.uk have the H1 6500K in stock for the ZX but not the 5500K, the 6500K will supposedly have a blue tinge whereas the 5500K will be a purer white?

I had HIDs on one of my previous cars and they were totally useless. I ended up driving by using "The Force" most of the time.

I just use the normal bulbs now, but an uprated version and things are much better, more so when I drive around with the front fogs on...

Also you dont have to either remove the HIDs for each MOT and/or explain to the MOT tester that the car did have HIDs towards the end of its production run...

4300k-5000k is the best range for hid for range vs colour. Anything 5500k or above will have some blue in it.

Yes the 5500K does look a purer white...  I think I will wait till they are back in stock at hids4u.co.uk?

Also just back on the whole issue of HID's in general... if a headlight like the ZX which has a projector lens then aftermarket HID's should work well as opposed to a headlight that has a non-projector lens and should not really have aftermarket HID's fitted.

Ended up buying these with the 5000K option... will update once fitted:)

I'd hold out for the 5500k, you do lose lumens the more blue, purple you go.

Always thought 5000k was perfect personally.

I concur - I have either 4500k or 5000k - they are white, not at all blue, and illuminate the unlit roads around here brilliantly!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Yup - dead right there, the light delivery is much like the OEM pattern; only much brighter. Plus you have a very good chance that the MOT tester will not realise your HIDs are aftermarket?

You can always tell when some numpty has put HIDs in a traditional reflector-beam headlight. The light disbursement is all over the place, to the point it is dangerous to oncoming traffic.

I think there is a lot of people out there who don't realise how dangerous HID glare can be from cars that shouldn't have them...

At the moment my Zed is running HID's but they were budget chinese ones that I bought for about £20 from a company in Slough, (A & E Tradung), they do a lot of parking sensors and electronic stuff, so will be good to see how the HIDS4U HID's compare!!?

I bought mine from HIDS4U, when I first got my blue zed.... That was around 2009 and they are still going strong - so I can definitely recommend their product?

That's a great endorsement! 10+ years and still going! can't ask for better than that?

Damn... from the HIDS4U website it said I needed the H1 so didn't even bother to check! just assumed it would be correct... Hopefully they will be able to do something as I have tried to fit them and cut one of the rubber fittings!?

Sorry to bring this thread back up, but how did you get on with the HIDs - were you able to install them?

After driving in the dark for the first time in quite a while, I've decided that the bulbs need to be updated! After reading through the various headlight/ bulb / HID threads, it seems that everyone goes for this option,

HIDs are easy for a DIY install. Takes about 20-30 mins. Longer if you want to hide the ballasts away under the nose panel (even longer if you tuck them under the headlights themselves).

The Hids4u kits are proven to work. EBay kits are a lot cheaper and they do work. I've used both and happy with both.

What can take the time is doing a suitable headlight flash mod so that the HIDs don't turn off when you flash the main beam. There's write ups of a few different methods in the how to sections. It's not difficult to do though.

Remember that cleaning the inside of your lenses will make an absolutely huge difference too. It's fiddly but doable without removing the light cluster itself.

Thanks for the info and pictures Lexx!

I've been going through the previous threads on Headlights, HIDs and Bulbs and have seen the Earthing-mod for the flashing too. Although, some of the pictures have disappeared from the older threads and some threads have an error, but you can still work out what to do (I think)

I suck at anything electrical, so am always scared to do anything before looking around and asking to make sure!

I came across redwine300's full headlight disassembly and rebuild and am astonished on how well they came out! Serious dedication and well documented too!
