What’s your favourite 90’s Jap cars (other than the Z32 obviously!)???

Being a 300zx forum, obviously we all love the Z32 otherwise we’d be driving something else, but it’d be interesting to know what other 90’s Jap cars would come close to the Z32 in your wish lists/dream car garage? I’m thinking cars such as the below;

- Skylines of all shapes

- Rx7’s Fc3s and Fd3s

- Supra

- Soarer

- Nsx

- S2000

- Impreza

- Evo

- Gto/3000gt

- Celica Gt4

- Other type R Hondas; civic/integras

For me personally my dream car garage would be as follows and reasons why;

1) Z32 300zx TT - because it’s perfect!

2) Rx7 Fd3s with a 20b triple rotor - noise, ease of power, handling and beautiful shape

3) Nsx facelift model of the 2000’s - beautiful shape and pure NA v6 vtec

4) Soarer 1jz manual - very marmite cars I know! - tuning capability, JZ noise, clean body lines and tank like construction

5) S2000 - lightweight, vtec and handling

Feel free to say why you like your chosen models as that’d be interesting also.

They are beautiful cars and I think the early models with some bbs lm’s to fill the arches look epic. Yeah I wouldn’t think the engine would make it as quick as our cars but that vtec must sound great. Lovely cars. What a fantastic era of cars hey.

I wouldn’t have any if the Honda’s personally. I do like the NSX, it’s just in a price bracket that other far more desirable cars sit.

The final shape RX7 is a pretty little thing but your mum would tell everyone you’ve got an MX5. I don’t really like any of their other options.

The R32 can be cool but they’re seriously overpriced. The S13 is like a Z32 light, but more expensive to buy.

Subaru, sorry but round here at least they are seriously Chavtastic.

Toyota. The Supra is a looker, with bags of potential but like the R32, over priced. The Celica doesn’t tick many boxes, the GT Fours are alright. The MR2 is a nice little car, bit feminine though.

Mitsi. I like the look of the GTO, but I wouldn’t own one. The Evo is a weapon and offers the scooby pros without the lethal dose of Burberry.

So I think it’s safe to say I dislike more 90s jap cars than I like. I would own, a Z32, an R32 or a Supra mk4.

Interesting options here; got to say I do see me owning a r35 gtr one day because of their outright capabilities. I do love the philosophy of the vipers too - simple, effective and the body lines are fantastic.

I agree with you about skylines, supras, Nsx’s all being overpriced. The Nsx was always pricey but the other 2 have just gotten ridiculous now - r32 pricing can be blamed on the bloody Americans and their 25 year rule.

99 spec Rx7’s, just like the Z32 are my favourite of the various guises because of the small but effective changes to the lights as per below pics - gorgeous! It’d be great as a second sports car to blast round a track. Couldn’t be known to be an Mx5 owner though!! [emoji1787]

Nissan S body cars are a bit tin can ish for me and used and abused by all the drifting guys. Never appealed to me having a 4 pot turbo when you could get a 6 cylinder TT.

Evo’s and their physics defying Ayc and other chassis black magic is something else I tell ya. Don’t see many scoobies round here but they do have a bad rep.

I am currently saving up for the kit and will build it myself over several years. I am hoping 5 more years and I can start. It will have to be in the gulf racing colours, but I am torn on whether I go for the other small block ford v8 or pay a bit more and have the new v8 from the mustang put in it for 700+BHP....

Absolutely loving your list and I forgot about the 240z!!! That and the early shape 70’s celicas are beautiful.

If im talking non jap then the GT40 and the newer 2005 era 5.4 supercharged GT are one of my favourites and was super jealous as a kid of jeremy clarkson when he bought one. The body shape is just heavenly and also you got to love the story behind the GT40. I think ‘Jayemm on cars’ on YouTube featured one of the GT40 kit cars on his channel over the last few months - worth a watch.

What will happen to your Zed’s? I hope you’ll keep them still!

Also@therealnips - you got to go for the modern V8. It will be so so much easier to live with, cheaper to maintain and run. People with big money in the states are taking the 60’s muscle car bodies, and putting them onto modern chassis with all the running gear for this very reason. Best of both worlds in my opinion and worth the extra wait to save up more money.

I see all the pros of having the new V8, all the fuel savings, the ease of maintance, more power etc.... but there is something epic to the 350. The sound, the rumble, the vibrations. Having been in a GT40 a few times when I was younger, I have this memory that I want to hold on to and keep. Also they look cooler when compared with the Coyote V8:

There is a kit of dummy webber headers you can put on the Coyote, but would it look as awesome?

When I was thinking about the pros and cons, the noise of the old engine was one of them. Pure American muscle noise! You’ll have to have a long hard think about it for a long time weighing up the pros and cons of each, and maybe try and get in touch with owners of both for more feedback.

Haha! ?

Yes I am thanks, very much so. Just fitted some different skirts to it from the N24 model and have managed to get my grubby mitts on a set of the Aston 'lightweight' forged wheel which are currently at Lepsons. Getting those back on Thursday.

So much for keeping it stock.....it is all genuine Aston option parts though.

I've always thought mk4 Supras looked like a clown car tbh, all curvy and wavy. And the interior around the driver looks like a bus, or a forklift truck. All that flat real estate. I don't desire one at all!

I'm having a hard time remembering which of the below is the supra

As for the rest, I do really like the look of the NSX. RX7 is all curvy again. Most of the others are saloons that are trying way too hard - they aren't sports/GT cars at all. Makes them chavy in my book ?

That’s the first time I’ve seen this comparison [emoji23] I respect the Supra and most sports cars for what they are, unless they’re genuinely sh*t. I think you’ve ruined supra interiors for me for life though as I’ll always think of the truck interior [emoji2363][emoji23].

As for the rest of the Jap car list, yeah a lot of chavs bought them when the Jap
Imports flooded in back in the 2000’s and the prices crashed, but nowadays with the prices at minimum double what they were in those days, and the cars getting old needing tonnes of maintenance, it’s kind of pricing out the scum.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I respect the Mk4 Supra and R32/R33; great cars, but they were never on my wish-list.

For me it would definitely be

Z32 - obviously.
Mk3 Supra Turbo - I had two before I bought my first Zed. Best Supra of the lot IMO. They just about qualify as 90s; most turbos were 1990-92 cars.
Mk2 MR2 GT - I quite liked the Mk1, but Toyota got it "right" the second time. J-spec turbo is nice, but an original UK-spec GT T-bar with leather; just right.
Mazda RZ7 - latest shape; UK-spec with leather

Then the maybe list

Honda NSX...? I would; just not worth the money
R34 - best Skyline IMO; has to be Bayside Blue and standard. Except for maybe a leather re-trim.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I like your taste [emoji1417] x2 mk3 Supras hey. They do look pretty mean in black and in turbo form. Did you have the 7m-gte engine or jz?

Same thoughts as all of us on the Nsx - pricing is in la la land! I agree on the mk2 mr2, the mk3 just lost it’s way really and mk1 a bit too old and body looking.

First was a 1990 white UK spec, 3.0 7m-gte with blue leather.

Second was a 1992 J-spec GT version in black. It still had the 7m-gte, but with over 250bhp; aero-top roof and fully digital dash. As a child of the 1980s, I loved it, because it was the Japanese version of KITT:classic_cool:

I did test drive a couple of Mk4 Supras, to be honest - as I thought it the natural succession. I did like them, but they did not stir the senses.... Next on my list was the Porsche 928 s4 - great car - and the 300zx. After driving both, I decided on the 300zx - firstly it was half the price and secondly, it just won me over:classic_wink:

Mind you, that 928 s4 could have been worth quite a bit today....LOL
