47k barn find.....with arches like that? I've never seen a door that rotten before either; it was certainly no 'barn find'! That's be left in a field to rot or the mileage is not incorrect. As an early car in that condition, the only thing of any real worth IS the engine however, a large number of 1990 engines had soft valves, unless you can clarify the engine number to see whether it was one that was affected it is a big gamble. I personally would not buy that car so to me, it is worthless, to anyone else, it's hard to value given the unknowns and general state of it? It is more than just a basket case, it's got no MOT history, so you've no idea whether the mileage on that engine is genuine.

Re soft valves - engines that may be affected have stamped engine numbers lower than VG30-777599 for NA's and VG30-619550 for TT's

(according to Nissan's NTB93-105 bulletin).

Some background information for the curious:

From my understanding, the lion's share of engines with the softer valves were found in JDM specific cars as production for that market started a little earlier than US versions. The statistics noted on the US site are likely based on a lower probability.

Tax ran out at 2004 so been parked for 15 years. I will probably go have a look at it this weekend. Just out of curiosity.

It’s a parts car at best really. The corrosion on the rear sill is horrendous. It’s far cheaper to replace a duff power train that body work, in my opinion. If your a body work enthusiast and you want a challenge I’d try and get it for half the buy it now.

I would use it as parts car. Wouldn't try to revive it for sure. My tt engine is in the process of being dissasembled and could be something catastrophic as cracked heads or block. And my na is running a bit lumpy. So i was toying with an idea to get this for the engine just in case for a replacement or a swap maybe. But how good will the engine be after 15 years of sitting in a field? How long will it last if it is running.

The early years of production '89-'90 more cars were exported than for domestic. '91 was about equal (Brian Long book) As far as I know engine

numbering were independent of country/market/model and just counted up for NA and TT engines as they came of the engine assembly line. The ECU

would change but the engine mechanicals would be the same. It would be good to get some engine numbers of early JDMs to see if they are different

to the format in the TSB above numbers above.

The trouble is with these cars, parts are so bloody expensive. How much would I trust a block that’s been sat for 15 years, well guarantee the seals will be shot, minimum your looking at a full gasket, belt and seal change at which point how much extra cost and Labour is it to re ring and bearing the bottom end and have the valves lapped in... at which point you’ve rebuilt an engine and it was a waste... unless you can get it for like £500-800 I’d not be interested tbh.

Tbh I dont recon too many of those soft valved early cars are still about, those that are will likely not have the original block. It’s a low volume of these cars that had the issue and after 30 years the survivors are just that. Mines an 89 shell, the block isn’t an 89 one though...

Having activily dismantled a lot of zed in way better condition than that heap of junk I would catagorically say to NOT buy it however cheap it was and by cheap I mean them paying you to take it away ! jeez every nut and bolt will fight you on it, the engine will be toast, end off, as will the transmission, likely rat infested interior requiring a hazmat transportation sign and no hope of making money of it or even using anything without first reconditioning it, waste of time move on, needs scrapping ! No really forget it, can I make it any clearer...Do not waste your time and money

Agreed however this hasn't been on the road in 16 years although there is no MoT history either so could be even longer. The ratio was much higher then, it's just one to be wary of.

Its ALMOST CERTAINLY going to have an engine with the early heads on.I would stay well clear of that. The valves will be toast by now.My understanding was engines with a 5 prefix or Heads with R1/L1 on.And besides that,That barn find wants pushing back in ! He is trying to cash in on the "Barn find" culture on Ebay.If anybody fancies a massive laugh search it and strap yourself in ready !

I hated the phrase "barn find" because genuine barn finds are few and far between. A barn find in my mind is a car that was put away, then the owner of the car/barn died and it lay forgotten until the new owner buys the barn and finds it, preferably several decades later.

Pushing your own car into a garage/lockup/hedge and "finding" it 2 years later is not a barn find.

1990 Black MT NA LWB = 2014 - 2020 (Sold)

1991 Red MT TT LWB = 2015 - 2017 (Stripped & Scrapped)

1991 Red MT TT LWB = 2017 - 2021 (Sold)

1991 Black MT TT LWB = 2018 - 2021 (Sold)

1989 Red AT TT LWB = 2021 - XXXX (Kept)
