Forum struggle

Recommended Posts

Always thought they were a strong club but its very hard to compete with Face Book. Rather than fighting FB we have joined it and hope to devert FB members to the main club here but its a strugle. We do have a strong core membership who give a lot of support and some how we do attract over seas members from all over the world. But.... we are still losing members and find it very hard to get what members we have to subscribe to the club. Next year could see some changes here.

Shame thats its offline for so long.

I've moved our server about 4 times in the last few years with minimal downtime.

Unfortunately Social Media is winning the battle over our forums so we need other ways to keep us going.

Mmm... yeh car clubs especially are been effected, younger blood coming on board want an instant platform, life in 2019 eh?

They were once very strong and given the numbers of zeds been greater in Aus and more specialist suppliers and workshops it is likely I think a difference in dynamics between the UK and Aus, even the US forums are different again, of course there though is a huge audience.

The Aus site have also tried to embrace the FB side of things

https://www.facebook.com/Aus300zxForum/

But dwindling numbers and income is killing their efforts unfortunately...

Having been a member of the aus300zx since 2006 i remember the hayday of the my forums and it was the best time to own a 300zx back then and i went on many Z cruises each year and the information in most of the threads back then were interesting and helpful.

Nowdays the forums is a ghost town. Barely any new threads are been created and nothing really interesting happening at all. For me in victoria, going on Z cruises and tech days were one of the best things to do throughout the year. But those outings are now a thing of the past. The last cruise i went on was last year and before that was 3 years before. For me thats bad and such a shame. I dont have fb so i just have to wait for something to happen on the forums.

A lot of the time I come here for advice and for parts info, banter and to keep in touch with what everyone is doing.

I do like going to local meets and would like to go to national events, but I always end up breaking down with one thing or another........ lol

I would like to see youtube videos or Jeff's write ups on how to repair things on our Z's...... like an archive listed under sections that link you to either new or existing write up or acknowledged and correctly written 'How to' guide.....

having its own heading in the forum for easy searching, but linking to youtube hosted content?

I have been printing and filing how to guides for years as hard copies and have boxes of info relating to things I have done or parts fitted to my Z. Mainly for fear of losing the link or information over the years!

Cruises here in Essex are now a thing of the past and they were taken over by people who seemed to just be out for annoying the police and trying to be antisocial.........

I used to like fun driving, parking up and talking to like minded car enthusiasts...... not trying to do over 100mph in a 30...... or donuts in asda carpark within feet of a big crowd.....

Dry Street cruise used to do donut competitions in the middle of a banger racing track and run safely...... Sound off competitions with really good installers alongside amateurs learning from the pro's.....

When properly organised events were forced into carparks and the police shut them down with the media slamming cruising, it killed the modifiers and the entire scene was deemed "Hooligan Boy Racers"...."A danger to society"...

The supped up Cosworths, RS Turbo's, Astra's, Golf GTI's are now Classic cars..... Modified is now what factory optional extra's does it come with?

The younger generation buy off the peg and don't fabricate, modify and personalise cars as they used to do..... they can't as they will get pulled over or can't afford the high insurance costs.....

Instead we go to Classic car shows...... catch up with fellow owners / enthusiasts and enjoy the ride there and back instead!!

The brand and Marque is shrinking daily as more Z's are broken, crashed and rotting away........ Fewer and fewer new parts are available!

I believe the only way to survive is for a Nissan Forum that has sections within it for all Z's, all models of Nissans, skylines, Kashqui, Micra's, GTR's, EVERYTHING!...... Older Classic owners along side the newer off the peg owners in one space!

Buy in to a central Nissan owners membership and then buy a bolt on membership to your Models section of the forum..... if you want access to tech section, parts and discounts......

Hook in a forum discount to online retailers that still sell OE parts, modified parts, bodywork, service parts, Audio, Alarms, Garage services, Insurance, etc..... that will still develop and supply what is required to keep our cars and forum going.

A youtube update from car shows we attend to show the rest of us what we missed and update us on what members have done to their cars with interviews and information..... maybe getting more members to attend the next years event?

I don't want to lose our forum or the people I have met on here that also love their Z.......

But it needs those people to voice........

1) what will keep them coming back here?

2) what they like?, what they don't like about the forum?

3) What are they looking for when they pop in to the forum?

Sorry, but read through what you have all put and wanted to throw a few idea's and thoughts out there!!!

Russ

Has anyone thought of taking the AUS forum under our wing and merging? Run both clubs? Host their website or create an AUS section in the forums? Can we donate to help them out?

Thats a pity Adam I hope the Aus club will rise again mate. I know our numbers are down but we certainly not out. Car clubs have a lot of advantages over other media as in a host of information in our threads, Insurance discounts, very helpful members and a yearly AGM. With this we will survive

A lot of ideas Russ and again it should be discussed at the AGM. But my opinion on a Nissan forum/club is that it would not work. We already have Zclub for all the Z models but still we prefare our own club as do the 350/370 guys.

Has anyone thought of taking the AUS forum under our wing and merging? Run both clubs? Host their website or create an AUS section in the forums? Can we donate to help them out?

If the Ausie guys cant make it work I doubt we can mate. The only help we can give is our support here if they want to join us.

All good points - and as Gary and Andrew have said, this will have to be a major point of discussion at the AGM in July...

…..On another note, was the thread closed for any reason...? I have reopened it, just in case it was an admin error...

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Since you asked ...

Its to do with the close thread checkbox; in that the checkbox actually goes 100% across the screen.

So if you have chunky fingers on a mobile and click just above the post button you can inadvertently close the thread.

I'm on a computer and using a mouse so I will blame it. :)
