Is there anywhere I can get the small white clips for the targa strips without having to buy the whole thing?

 

If not, I'm thinking double sided butyl tape.....bad idea?

The roof strip clips? Do you mean the little square ones that sit inside the rail that you'd screw into? They're not available new, they're part of the mouldings. The only two clips you can buy separately are the ones listed above and the L shaped ones that slide in on the lead edge of the windscreen.

On this boat today, to avoid these clips breaking once you put them back oil the screw and fill the clip with oil, then multiple turns left and right to reduce resistance / clean the thread.... When you finally tighten them as soon as you feel they are pinch tight stop, otherwise they will split in 2, I found the 2 end ones can take a touch more tightening without splitting because they are encased by the rubber end caps. You will know what I mean if you've removed the targa strips!!
