Hi guys,

The following are my opinions, I do not wish to debate them.

Been thinking about this for a while and have come to a conclusion. I wish to tender my resignation as joint Regional Events Organiser for South Central. There are a few reasons for this, not least the fact that I’ve organised no meets this year and generally only one successful one for the last few years. This isn’t enough to justify the position. Equally the general apathy in the club has taken its toll and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a fruitless task.

The club itself in my eyes isn’t doing very well, this is disappointing and I can’t really pin point or fault a specific thing. It’s quite clear to me that many stalwarts of this community have faded away, the buzz is gone. That coupled with the lack of trade sees me questioning why I’m posting. There are three reasons to be part of a car club;

Community,

Discounted deals and availability of parts,

Tech support.

In all but the tech aspect, the club is in my opinion failing and is propped up by a small number of active members who have a very set vision of how they would like things to be. This was a major factor in why I haven’t paid my subs, there simply was no incentive to do so. I’ve met some good people and made some friends over the past decade but many of them are no longer contributing, even though they still own. So I will also be taking very much a back seat from the club as a whole.

This year has been a very busy year for me, as will next year and I’m going to take some serious time to think but next year is probably also going to be my final year of ownership.

Thank you for reading and a special thanks to those who have helped me, turned up to events and the few that have turned up with spanners and parts and been part of a club.

Sorry to hear that Stephen, and thank you for everything you have already done.

We have all seen the general decline in community and increase in apathy, particularly around events, with some members posting about events and not even getting a reply on those threads.

It is difficult when you have to organise 6-12+ months in advance, and receive no interest until 6 days in advance.

I cannot offer any real insights into why this is happening, but myself and the committee are continually trying to find ways to keep the community spirit engaged, and trying to organise events for next year. I hope you manage to stay engaged enough to come along to at least one of them.

Will be sorry to see you go Stephen you have done so much for the club over the years and for this reason you will be missed. I understand your feelings and yes the club has lost a lot of its members due to lots of reasons and us older members can see the difference in how it is now.

I do believe we are in the middle of a transition period with so much going on in the club we still have to find our feet. For sure the membership is getting smaller but that's no excuse for lack of energy and posts on the forum and meets in the club. The sub committee are working away in the back ground and 2019 should see the catalysts of a new 300zx club. I for one will dig deep to get this club to where it should be and somewhere where all 300zx owners will want to be participating in.

Stay with us Stephen as a member we need your knowledge of owning a 300zx.

I believe as a whole forums are taking a back seat to the ease of Facebook and it's numerous pages. It's now far easier to reach a much bigger audience of "keyboard mechanics" for advice. I myself am part of various zed pages on Facebook and I must say it's certainly nowhere near as close as a feeling of a community that is a dedicated forum like this. That being said, I know I am guilty of neglecting this forum in recent times but not for any particular reason other than being busy with other commitments.

I’m sorry not to have meet you Stephen. It’s a shame you’ve been unable to find the enthusiasm or support to actively promote local meets. I appreciate you taking the time to review your situation and coming to the conclusion that it’s time to step back.

Without wanting to sound pushy I’d be very happy to try and fill Stephens shoes and take on this roll if you like.

Hi Steve,

I echo Craig's thoughts - and not out of apathy or because I cannot be bothered to type anything original myself..... But because he got there first and said what I would have done!!

Thanks for your efforts thus far mate; it was a pleasure to have met you and to have had you working with us. Even more sorry to hear you might be selling up next year; but onwards and upwards mate - and whatever you do, you know you're always welcome to pop back in from time to time!

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Again, seconded. It's a fact of life that things must - and do - change. Thanks for stepping up mate; whilst we naturally have to have a bit of a chat behind the scenes, I don't foresee any issues with this....

No problem, looking forward to setting something up. :santa:

Sorry to hear this Stephen, but you do make a valid point. There seems to be only a few people who post on here regularly, there seems to be little enthusiasm for owners regarding build updates, new parts, new ideas etc. It might seem small or trivial to some, but it could be a major triumph to the OP. These cars are money pits, a chap could have worked double shifts for a month to buy a piece of his Z jigsaw and gets little recognition for his efforts. I myself have cut down on my time on here (site has been blocked on work computer), but also as there’s nothing really happening, I can spend 10 minutes on here and be caught up with everything, there were comments a while back about people posting just to get their post count / likes up and to be honest, it’s put me off updating build threads and advertising parts. It was always the way to advertise here first (to give members 1st dibs) and then other sites if there was no interest. Unless it’s free or dirt cheap nobody’s interested in here.

Good decision bud, no point doing something with no end result and if you are no longer enjoying it.

Sorry to see you step down Stephen, you have always replied and given good advice and i hope you are still around for that.

I think the decline of the forum had a major down turn when the "what did you do to your Z today" was closed, this was used by everyone as q quick post and for me was always a source of encouragement to keep going and even though it was stopped to start more personal threads it is all about google clicks and search ratings. having one thread that has hundreds of post is regarded as a major negative for the search engine. So for a better rating I feel it has damaged this forum, which is such a shame.

I know I don't post much but I reguarly check in and make comments and post and follow progress by the club members.

I do hope this club/ forum moves forward and grows.

That thread can be opened again if members think it was wrong to close it. I can see what you mean as members can put a quick post in it rather than starting a new thread. But it would be nice if members with a lot to say and big reports would start a new thread also.

I think it should be opened again Gary. The thread was a useful and fun place to read a daily fix of Zed trivia - just that. If folks

aren't interested in that stuff then simply don't click on it! By all means encourage members to start and maintain their own

discussion and project threads for more in depth and permanent writeups but in my view the "daily" helped in its own way to

get people to regularly visit the site.

Stephen, I'm sorry to read that you are taking a back seat so to speak, I hope you will stick around. Remember the fun times...

She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went - Simply irresistible.

I'm not so sure we should open it as people are now creating there own threads again.

The stats clearly show that the new thread count has increased since its closure.

Why not publish the site stats on a regular basis rather like Gary does for memberships?

Was Ian actually in the original photo ?

Why does he look like he's been photoshoped in ?

Oops - he was! The original thread featuring Stephen appearing in various unrelated images (with respect to the OP):

We digress a little here, sorry Stephen, but I think the journals need to be accessible to all users.
