My tailgate has got a rusty corner which I should get something done about. Ideally this would involve removing / replacing the rear window. I've heard some horror stories but then Si says he's done it 3 times.

Do any of the associated parts need replacing or are they re-usable?

Plus there is mention of:

72715-81800 Spacer-Glass A

Quite apart from "don't break the glass" is there any advice I can pass on. I assume the outside moulding round the glass has to be removed carefully. Any tips? Do I need to remove the trim from inside the tailgate as well?

Thanks.

Done this job twice now and its easier if you just replace the parts for new and it looks better too.

I started with carefully removing the plastic edge strip that goes all round the glass, it will be very brittal so will snap off in pieces.

The top piece has a few clips underneath and they are used for alignment when fitting the glass, you can pick up a kit on ebay that

is used for removing glass and it will have a large T skewer to push the cable through the top corner and that's where you start.

The new oem rubbers can be expensive so expect to pay upto £300 for all 4 pieces.

You need these parts :

90352-32P00 Moulding-Back Door, Upper

90314-30P00 Clip-Moulding, Upper (4x of these come in kit with above part)

90366-30P00 Moulding-Corner, Upper RH

90367-30P00 Moulding-Corner, Upper LH

90372-32P00 Moulding-Back Door, Lower

If you manage to get the first part off without damage then you will just need the clips to align the glass properly.

The corners also damage very easily but they are really expensive for such a small piece of plastic.

Don't re-use the rubber seal. top- trim can be saved, so can the corner pieces. I just replaced absolutely everything whilst it was still available. The top trim is also held in by locator clips which the windscreen folk will have to slice through. Cheese wire/Wibotec, whatever they decide to use.

Yes, my screen has been in and out more times than I care to remember. Are you going to remove it yourself? I wouldn't personally.

Thanks JaiKal, FunkySi. There's no way I would try it myself so I'll see what the local windscreen chaps say.

Can be a very common problem Mike as water sits in that corner. Mine is not in the rain much but after every wash and dry I lift the tailgate and let it stay open for 15mins or more so all the water runs of it.

So do I.....!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Does anyone not do that? [emoji848]

I would say a lot of members dont do it along with making sure there is no dirt sitting on the inside of the arches. I remember at JAE one year a now ex member had a show car but his rear arches were starting to bubble up I checked inside his rear arch with my finger (the Z) and it was caked with mud.

I didn’t know about the hatch lift technique until very recently.
