Love it Joel :thumbup1: By the way 12k for insurance is tooooo low mate.

Great article and I agree with Gary on the insurance.

I'm getting at least £25k Agreed valuation on mine.

I’ve been pondering this myself, it has gone up £1000 every year for the last 2 years but it does seem low compared to the figures being thrown around from others people’s policies! I spoke to the guy who does the independent valuations for Lancaster Insurance (my current insurer for the last few years) at the NEC a couple of years ago to try and decipher how they put a valuation on the car and from their perspective, it really isn’t very technical at all (not far off just taking an average from Autotrader! I might jump ship next year to a different insurer that I can just pluck a figure out of the sky with and they insure me to that figure.

I’d be interested in what people’s premiums are and what agreed valuation as Adrian Flux said they couldn’t get it less than £400 last year for the same cover and the same 12k AV (which costs an extra £40 on top with them!). Lancaster’s quote was nearly half that all inclusive! I could’ve had the Adrian Flux AV to whatever figure I picked seemingly and the policy premium would just increase accordingly, Footman James seem to follow the same system.

Ditto - great article Joel and thanks for sharing mate..... But yes; best up that insurance valuation....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Mine is up for renewal in a few weeks Dan. Based on your experience and my Z in that article, what value should I be placing on the car?

Hi Joely,

We'd be more than happy to provide you with a quotation for your own Z. I'm not sure we would really wish to advise what valuation to place on your own vehicle. By all means let us know what you feel it is realistically worth and our Agreed Valuation department will ask for x 6 photos and the agreed valuation form. We're normally quite flexible as long as the valuation isn't too outlandish. I.e well out of sync with other similar models we have in the same order - unless of course you can advise why it's worth significantly more.

Regards,

Dan

What number can I catch you on Dan?

Hi again,

The best thing to do is ring in on the general club line: 0800 916 1288 - you won't necessarily speak to myself as all calls go through to a hunt group - we are all trained to offer the best premiums however.

Don't forget to mention your membership of the 300Zx forum.

Many thanks,

Dan

Joel, my car is insured with Classic Line @ £310 PA - 3K miles all mods declared - Currently at an agreed value of 15k (pre respray)

  • 2 weeks later...

I got mine agreed at £10k with 5k miles (which I haven't done any where near this year!) for just under £300 with Lancaster:)

2nd year I've gone with them!

  • 1 year later...

just as an update in the here and now, ive just insured mine with lancaster this year for £430 at 3k miles with agreed valuation of £25k.

Hope to never have to use that valuation but after spending £30k on it, at least its a good representation and realistic with the fact I'll never get it all back!

Adrian flux, i am dissapointed to say, decided to up my policy renewal by £200 for no apparent reason unless another years no claims bonus qualifies me to the special " pay 33% more " category?

This was also still on 3k miles but with a £20k valuation...

Not feeling like a valued customer after getting several quotes cheaper, some with better benefits and higher mileage allowance.

Now having the cover at £35 cheaper than flux last year and without the extortionate increase, being the reason i wont be renewing with them.

Don't want to keep resurrecting a zombie thread, but I'm thinking about getting agreed value on mine this year. I find insurance such a pain every year, I can never get mine as low as everyone else seems to have it. What sort of evidence do they ask for with the agreed valuation? Any trouble getting to agree to these high figures?

agreed valuation requires 6 photos of the car from different angles, any documentation, receipts etc for parts , basically any information to support the total amount you are looking to insure the car for.

You can get an independent valuation from the Zclub.net but you will need to be a subscribed member, not sure if anyone here in this club can do it.

£15 a year to subcsribe to the Z club so not a lot really and you can be a member of both.

service history also a bonus!

Surely any valuation will be less than the total spent though, so I imagine that might be counterproductive?!
