Minus the engine I was testing all the electronics in my zed today and apart from a few blown bulbs

my zed has developed a fault with the operation of the drivers window.

It simply won't move.

The passenger side one works perfectly and can be controlled from either door, also the door lockout button works.

When you try the window switch you can hear some sort of motor clicking but it sound more like the lock actuator

rather than window motor. To confirm this I removed the door card and disconnected the wires for the motor after

which pushing the button I can hear the same actuator noise coming from the right side of the drivers door.

All other electronics work perfectly in the car including the mirrors so nothing is mixed up.

Just about to go test this.

But why can i hear a door actuator going ?

Noise your hearing is the relay clicking, the problem is the board dry joint is after the relay, so no power out to the window, often holding the switch in and banging the door panel in the centre where the unit is will make the window work once, remember you do not need to take off the door panel, unclip the bottom and look up and you can reach the unit.

ok,

Wasn't a bad solder but rather it was a blown track.

I think I have somehow caused a surge in the power systems by the way I've hooked up the ground cable to the zed.

Mind I don't have an engine so the ground cable from the battery at the moment is connected to the chassis.

That explains why I also have two blown headlights at the same time as they went too.

The question is if I wanted to ground the battery to the car where is the best place to avoid power issues ?

Given the body structure is the earth point there is no difference to where it is connected, should not cause any power surges, however with engine out the alternator and starter cables very likely touched down and caused issues. I don`t see how this would cause the headlights to blow, although they have switched earth`s the relays that supply them been open circuit would be prevent any issue.

My bigger worry if you have some kind of surge as you suggest then the ecu for the abs and the engine etc. could be effected, lets hope not.

It might just be co-incidence.

I pulled the fuel pump relay prior to hooking everything up and when powered up everything works including the AC.

The leading track on the window controller has clearly blown out and after a proper inspection it simply peeled away.

I'll repair it tomorrow with a linked cable between the two points and hopefully it will power up the window.
