My terrible experience with trusting a so called club Importer to bring in a z32!

Hi guys I thought I would share my experience I have had recently with asking someone from the club to import a z32 for me....

I would have come on sooner but to tell you the truth I've not been really happy lately. building my hopes up with something that was promised to be great but turned out to be a complete utter hunk of shit to look at putting it bluntly.

Also the experience I had with the garage that he uses for the jobs is unbelievable. I had to get them to stop all the work on it, and not to touch anything else and get someone straight over to collect the vehicle and trailer it away to someone that actually knows what they're doing.

There's a few guys on the club that have seen the car and was shocked and know the situation please speak up so we can stop this from happening in the future to anyone else!

Really regret not buying slick Pete's na Z when I had the chance!.

I'm a bit busy at the moment there's a lot happening with my duty. but I've got loads of pictures and documented everything I will update this thread very soon!

Sorry to hear it hasn't worked out.

Don't let it dissuade you from importing in future. It's safer than buying locally and privately IMO, but you really need to be dealing with someone that knows what they're doing.

I wish I spoke to a few people beforehand..... would have saved thousands and thousands of pounds! Hopefully Jimmer will pop on later and fill you in how bad it looks he couldn't believe how much I paid for it he also couldn't believe it was a 3.5 grade ect. That garage that Gary takes them too was messing me about a lot went on for weeks, everytime they rang me up I wondered what was next. They ended up pulling off the plenum without even telling me, allegedly doing oil and filter change when they didn't as jimmer took off the all filter it was filthy and it's a filter that you only can get from Japan pit work I got pictures of it. They also told me to leave the bits that I had to buy in the boot of the car and a couple of days later I rang them up for an update they forgot that the parts were in the Boot, also was getting good talking to why not delete the water pipes on the plenum because the engine could possibly ice up...WTF.

I think he thought that is exactly what he had done ...

I saw it last weekend before I flew out to Texas and was pretty gobsmacked especially considering what was paid for it. When I first saw photos of it, despite the 'brightness' I could see that the paint job was likely to be highly questionable as there was a very clearly an overspray issue, this is something that a bona-fide trader really should have spotted and avoided. 3.5 is not what the car was. I'd suggest it's a 2 at best.

Its value was extremely high considering the state it was in and what had been done to it plus the poor/non-existent maintenance which had been carried out prior to Jim rescuing it.

I do think the seller/trader has some serious explaining to do. Due diligence was not carried out whatsoever.

The shell is decent and the engine has now been made good, (costing YOU extra) , but really only the shell as it was when it was brought over. The paintwork is nothing less than appalling and to get that to a high standard is going to cost thousands especially if you factor in all the seals and weatherstrips that have been over painted.

I feel for you you mate. It could be made to be a great car but it will cost a lot to do that. Maybe the seller can come to some sort of goodwill arrangement and offer you some money back to assist you with getting it to a good standard.

It is at a great place now though, Jim will work wonders on it and will get it in perfect shape mechanically.

I think you should discuss your situation with the committee as a situation happened once before with the same trader with a car that came over with questionable identity. I hate seeing members go through this especially from a 'trader'.

Personally, from what I have seen, Josh Lake is able to source far better cars at far better prices and he would be an ideal candidate as an 'official' trader/importer imo of course. He actually has a guy out there looking at cars for him rather than buying blind or irresponsibly.

Edited by Funkysi

He is basically just doing what any one of us can do, buying blind, hiring a shipping company, getting it over and then paying an ordinary garage to give the car a once over. While charging top end retail money for it.

No offence to the committee but is this guy even a business that pays rates and VAT etc?

The alarms bells should have rung when that Z turned up with the scratched off chassis number

Feel really bad for you mate. I've been thinking about the traders for a while now. I was ripped off by a club trader & later learned that the trader had no qualifications to be working on cars, no insurance so shouldn't have been driving cars to mot's ect. In the future could the committee not be more strict & ask to see paperwork to check the traders are fully qualified & are a proper business. I know mistakes can still happen but if they are a genuine business they're more likely to put things right not hide & keep telling lies like Lee Bent.

Stuff like this makes me sad. I don’t like people getting poor service and I really feel for you. Obviously we are only getting your side, I have no reason to doubt your side, if you feel you have a strong case of a misrepresented sale etc then I’d really encourage you to persue it legally.

That's exactly it. In a case like this, where you don't think the car is as described, it can probably be returned to the auction house. Not much use when it's made it around the world!

This is not what we want in the club Steven and its sad to see it happen to a new member like you. We would like our traders to do the right thing for club members and of course there is two sides to every story but its something we need to discuss further at the AGM and within the club after that.

very sad to hear.

regardless of registered business or not, i think you will find he has sold enough cars to be classed as a trader, and therefore you should be able to use the sale of goods guidelines to get your money back or pursue legally.

as a club, we do our best to attract good traders, but no trader can be 100% for every person every time.

it is a problem for the club, as registered traders should be considered as trusted, but the only real answer is NOT to have traders listed.

Mmm.... I do think the forum has some level to answer to on this, after all there was a major problem a while back and was for the most part over looked, these things can come back and bite you in the bum, looks like this is the case here

Approved trader with paid fees, that is a contract right there boys..

Did and still do find the response level here to the chassis vin removal ( not the plate ) was woeful at the time, and later quietened down....:glare:

These are just a few pictures, I need to take some more of the front bumper they've even sprayed all the pipes and parts of the suspension, paint runs everywhere. Trim pieces been painted over with black nail varnish or some tacky rubbish. Also he's a picture of the old filter which is only sold in Japan, was told by the garage that Gary took it to it had the engine oil and filter changed obviously not! I'll dig out an email as well stating about the vehicle condition. I really feel like I've had my trousers taken down in bent over! Shameful display...

In fairness, he did own up to that and offer to buy the car back. But this sort of negligence on a second occasion is taking the piss.

Basically I just want to make people aware of what I've been through. I don't think I will will be going through a small claims court at the moment I've got a lot of stuff going on at the moment with my personal life, a few close friends in the club are aware of. I just don't want to see anybody else in the club or that is new to the club making the same mistake as I did!

That is shocking! I can’t believe anyone would bother the bid on such a car unless it was very cheap as it’s clear that it requires significant investment to bring it up to a presentable standard. Clearly that investment has not been put into the car so I would assume the resale price would reflect the condition. May I ask what you paid for the car?

  • Author

Hello mate

Yes apparently Gary was saying that the seller wasn't happy with the bid and it didn't meet the reserve so I had to make 3 offers before the accepted 4k. Plus I paid an additional 2000+ for Shipping and duties and £600 admin fee included in that 2K

Pls to Gary. Had to get it trailer the way from the cowboy garage to power Zed got Jimmy to do the major service which is over 1k so quite a a lot of money payed as you can see already and I haven't even sorted out the paint and trim pieces pretty sick...

Honestly thought I was in good hands club Importer, sold a dream that turned out to be a nightmare for me!

I can't click on any of the links posted. Well, I click them but get nothing

I'll send them to Jimmy. I need to try again later on with my PC but I'm going on duty soon.

4K for the car in that condition sounds about right... in the UK with no extra fees! It’s good that it’s a structurally and mechanically sound base to work with but it’s unfortunate that’s it’s been at your cost to get that piece of mind. Chancing that it’ll be ok is simply not acceptable and the option has always been there for PowerZed to check over these cars when they arrive in the country.

It’s essentially a project car with that utterly appalling attempt of painting the car which I liken to vandalism that would write the car off if you made an insurance claim! Several thousands of pounds need to be invested in the car to make it fit for the purpose that you (and many buyers) obviously want the cars for when buying them for good money. It was always clear that you were after a show car from your posts, you’ve paid decent money for the car and it seems the point where the hammer went down with your criteria was a failure point. Upon inspection in the UK, I’m surprised that Garry didn’t rehash a plan as his decision to pair that car with you and your criteria was not compatible.

I don’t know what legal responsibility is on the guys that import cars this way but it does seem bizarre that they can supply a customer something which is clearly not in line with what they thought they were buying and just move on to the next with no liability?
