....came across this on Facebook earlier. Dude wanted to shave the 'NISSAN' logo off of his calipers so that the wheel wouldn't hit it. Nothing wrong with filing down just the logo although not something I'd do.

Looks like he's gone waaayyyy too far though.

Taken off quite a bit too much material, especially over the top of those fluid gallaries.

Rears are worse - structural integrity weakened significantly.

Now now mr funky, i know you like a moan, but judging visually without x-raying voids the argument. It's not uncommon practice providing theres meat to remove from the bone. Ive had pulsar calipers with waaay more removed than that skim, theres still plenty meat around the galleries and theyve lasted tens of thousands without any sign of fatigue. :-)

You sound like someone with nostrils on his bonnet.

Doesn't mean it's good practice.

That rear caliper in particular is shocking. I wouldn't risk it, no way and yes, it's not unheard of to slightly trim a caliper, but that's had plenty taken out of it and the sides curved.

Does look a shocking job in engineering i must admit:scared: but at the end of the day as long as the caliper material is as thick as the brake pipe walls then its going to work fine. Would i drive with it? not a chance in hell:lol::lol:

You cannot tell a thing from those pictures about the state of the caliper body.

You’re right, you can’t tell anything from the pictures BUT you can make a reasonable assumption that the owner thinks they know more about the tolerances allowed within the development of the calipers than those who designed them and they are prepared to risk people’s lives using them on a public road using them. :2guns:

Can you? Or can you see that he has removed the branding logo and dressed the face so it’s uniform. I can’t...

I think you are over complicating this, its merely an example of hammer mechanics.

He has adopted the attitude of

Lol nope a micra that would rip apart most z32 tt's to 120 though  . Ofcourse it's not ideal, but no harm no foul. It was to get the clearance to run GTIR brakes under 13" alloys rather than the 14's I was restricted to The outer corner radius was what needed removed on mine rather than top-most or face material. Sorry didnt mean to sound agressive haha, just it's very hard from a photo to see anything other than they've had the face touched up with a grinder so questioning the structural integrity is a long shot without x-raying or US'ing them for thickness.

Get some glasses! You not even seen the rear ones too?

No, I’ve not seen the rears. All I’m saying is you shouldn’t jump on the internet and slag the guy off if all the information you’ve got is a crappy picture. It’s an assumption, there’s no fact to it. If the photo was from above, maybe you could say, but as Ive already said for all you know the logo has been removed and the face dressed in.

Im not pretending the converse is true and that it’s brilliant, it might very well be shit but neither you nor I can tell that from a profile picture. Certainly not to any extent to jump on the World Wide Web and get all excited about it. I think you need another hobby.

Bloody hell dude, get some more sleep. I guess fatherhood is taking its toll. ;)

....ps, there's plenty you can tell. Here's a stock caliper, not only has the lettering been removed but so has the main moulding on the top, not just that, but the sides have also been rounded off.

It's had more than just a 'little shave'.....all to fit a set of cheap wheels....it's arse about face, it's gone too far.

I can't even believe you're trying in some way to stick up for this. :lol:_20180323_063518.jpg

I’m having lunch now

In fairness I forget about that raised bar, I haven’t had stock calipers for years, so I concede on that aspect. Yes a spacer would of been smarter and there shit Brakes anyway.

I still maintain though you need anoither hobby if you’ve time to create threads on this stuff.

The irony.....as you're the one responding to it all.

On a sensible note, hope all is going well with the little one. :)

Can’t just let you have it can I.

She’s fine, crazy running 35lb of dog bowl bashing fine, but fine. Me I’m a glutton for punishment, which will be one clearer over the coming months.

You have time to eat? I’ve been up since 5am with these two and haven’t had time to eat yet. Archie’s on his second slice and Benjie just polished of a bowl of hoops (by himself USING A SPOON).

Back on topic, I’m of the opinion (largely made after joining the brigade and chopping one too many people out of cars) that brakes and tyres aren’t to be messed with. As you say Simon why mash up a cheep set of brakes when there are other ways to solve the problem.

 she’s been with Grandma since about the time you were up with yours, yeah. I treated myself to five minutes when I arrived in Cardiff. Got some work to do now though.
