Aesthetically... measurably? In terms of technical achevement. Purely subjectively?

I'd probably most like a 240z. But that is mostly an aesthetic and vintage special thing. But If I had one I'd want it to perform, not like a z32 but like a 350.

Ours could out run a 350, give a 370 a good go, but may lose out on a circuit due to modern handling. (An educated guess) So measurably in terms of performance ours does pretty well.

Technical achievement at launch, surely the z32 again was more cutting edge than the rest?

I think the z32 is the best in most measurable ways, aesthetically it has aged very well.

It's hard not to be super biased. For me its the z32 then the 240 then the 350.

For me its the Z32.

The 40Z despite being a great car is IMHO a Japanese MGC (that was I think the one with the straight six). Sure it was better in every way but each of those ways was an incremental development of an existing feature of plenty of other cars. A bit like the MX5. Yes I know it is still a desirable car but in the cold light of day I wouldn't want to run one.

The Z32 was straight out of the box unbelievable ! FOUR WHEEL STEERING for Gods sake !! Twin turbochargers ! A cabin that was like something out of a fighter jet.....so much glass that the first time I drove one in 1991 I felt like a 'pilot' and I was totally hooked. But setting all that hyperbole aside.....even today some 27 years after it arrived on our shores it more than stands the test of time. Its multi-schizophrenic ! It's a commuter, a weekend shopping trolley, a country lane blaster, and a track day weapon (ok not many laps before brakes are boiled I agree) And it's gorgeous to look at !

Ha or I could have just said I prefer the Z32 :-)

I would go with the 240Z to be honest. I still have fond memories of the Z32s I have owned (well maybe not the slow NA) but the 240Z was always the car I really wanted.

For me it's the Z32 TT. I do love the 240Z, I've been lucky enough to drive them and they turned Nissan's fortunes around. I love the look of it as a retro car and I'd really like one. 260z in the same vein. The Z32 TT appeals to me for a whole host of reasons, it has the right amount of performance and tech to make it not seem completely antiquated. The S chassis whilst great fun are a little old-fashioned to drive (unsurprising) which is why they don't appeal quite as much although there's little in it for me.

The Z31 can be made to look good, but in stock form, it's just not that pleasing, especially on the interior. It's slow, it's not very dynamic, although I still have a soft spot for them. The 280zx is a boat, I have seen one modified to look good, but it's slower than the 240z. I wouldn't not own one, however they are the least appealing.

The Z32 for me has always been a poster car and is something I've loved since it was launched. I've come to like the 240 as I didn't know much about them in my youth, so I'll always have the Z32TT at the top spot.

I have owned a 240z, 260z (2+2), 3 x 280zx (2+2)....(2 x autos and 1 x manual - with Janspeed turbo) :thumbup1:, a 300zx Z31 NA (2+2) - (the face lift version)..... and 2 x 300zx Z32s (2+2) Twin Turbos...the latest one a UK spec manual.

The 240z and the 260z were great cars to drive and be seen in... especially as I was only about 20 ...but were fairly basic sports cars... similar to...but better than an MGB....the 240z wasn't that fast either...around 8.5 sec 0-60....but quick enough for me to win a bet ...and a drag race against my mates Dolomite Sprint :cool3:

The 280ZX's were cool at the time...but VERY 1980s ...and not that quick either...apart from the manual Janspeed turbo (fully body kitted... like the batmobile - Funky Si)

The 1989 face lift Z31 300ZX 2+2 auto ....looked futuristic...but was woeful...slow and wallowing

My first 300ZX Z32 2+2 auto was a non runner that I took apart and brought back to life....it was quick, fun to drive and pretty....but ultimately felt like and 'old' car....I sold that about a year ago so that I could buy the Z32 I had wanted since seeing one in the Nissan dealer showroom in 1991 (Geoff Newlands in Sidcup)...a UK manual TT in EH7 Pearl Yellow...(or Sahara Gold)....this car is on a different level to my first Z32 and gives me a thrill every time I drive it!

I haven't owned a 350Z or 370Z...as the shape has never appealed to me .....so for me.....

..........it's got to be the Z32 TT Manual

I am inclined to concur....

............Although I'd probably put the 370z in third, as opposed to the 350:wink:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I'd put the 350 close to last... A terrible successor to the 300zx

A performance downgrade, not particulary pretty, whole door cards are a sheet of plastic (could they make it look any uglier?), only 2 seats. I don't think there's much going for it whatsoever.

The 350Z is a cracking car, I used to sell them new so I would know. May be a tiny bit slower with both in stock form but by no means a bad car.

Its the looks department that let the 350 down imo

I've never driven anything older than the Z32 so can't really comment on the others. However I'm not a big fan of the 350, I can see me owning a 370 and will no doubt have another 300 (either Si one or build my own ).

I do like the looks of a 240 however I think if I ever came to the point of buying a car of that era I would probably look at a Triumph GT6. I would of course try the Z first. :cool3:
