What are people using on here now days for increased power for basic mods and around 14 psi boost?

I have read a lot of older threads but nothing too recent about this.

I see that Protuner is the best place to go for a custom map. As for chips I read that Turbonoz chips are good and still seems to be available from the Turbonoz website. Has any current member used the Turbonoz chip or can recommend another which is readily available?

14psi you only really need boost jets, a modified map, intake and a decent exhaust providing your engine is in tip top condition.

If you want to go further with a higher quiality setup, upgrade the SMICs, an EBC and a rolling road tune.

The list can go on and on depending on how far you want to go with 14psi.....like 2.5" intercooler pipework etc.

Just really looking at EBC @14 psi, decat exhaust and apexi intake. Not looking at going further than that.

So reading other posts they suggest that a chip is the most cost effective with the basic mods .. then if going for bigger power always a full remap.

A chip won't really see anymore power per se, but it will make the power reliable and efficient. Most cost effective is probably a rolling road in terms of getting the most out of what you have. You'll see better returns with a better quality map and EBC setup. It depends what you call 'value'.

A generic chip on 14PSi could yield 350 as an example, whereas a correctly set up car and EBC on a RR could yield 10-15% more. But I'd probably only really go that route with larger injectors. 740cc injectors you could run around 17-18PSi on standard turbos if you had all the other supporting modifications. It's the injectors that are the biggest weakness with the VG followed quickly by the size of the intake system.

A stock engine and turbos can make very healthy power providing it's done correctly.

From what I read I'd atleast need a chip to run at 14psi??

If I was to run at 14psi with decat and apexi I am guessing it would run lean etc and wouldn't be good for the engine?

Yes - advised.

I know a couple of members running standard chip with higher boost pressures, but they're UK fueling maps - I don't know enough about them to give any information about.

I believe AndrewG is/was running a standard map on his Z and he's increased the boost. Might be worth talking with him about that particular detail.

Ive always found Jap maps are rich because they have access to higher octane fuels.

I will send him a PM

I don't want to go too mad on power as I'm running an auto, so don't want to be replacing or converting anytime too soon.

My car is a JDM if that would make any difference. Always run it on 99 Ron, either shell or Tesco.

Ha ha, classic tuning method used by SE Nissan in the day, no chip changed, just turn the boost up using bleed jets (not boost jets ) and retard the ignition to prevent detonation, basically crap !

Check out the link for some info on chips and boost and what is actually achievable >

Not quite sure what that has in relation to what I said; those with stock fuel maps are running EBCs.

Just wanted to clarify something for the OP, you mentioned above a generic chip will not make any more power but it will make the power reliable and efficient.

When starting out on the hunt for more power, its best to get the full picture, suggesting to a new owner that turning the boost up with standard chip is ok without qualifying the boost and timing regime used is careless.

We all know and acknowledge that increasing boost is the major contributor to perceivable extra power, a generic chip allow for full 14 psi by changes to fuel and ignition timing to keep the engine safe.

Safe is the key here, and this is what the advise should be about, keeping the engine safe, yes you touched on RR mapping, but not for safety reasons but performance, the op does not want to be creating a high power monster and explaining the downsides is just as important.

Where does it suggest anything of the sort? Saying someone knows folk that run a standard chip on a UK car is in no way suggesting that he run one as can be seen in the rest of the tread.

Really ? this is like those fake news items on social media :bored:

The op is a new owner just started out with his learning of the z32, if you are given advise of any kind be it off the cuff or in detail you need to qualify it with supporting information or misunderstandings can occur.

Jeff

You still didn't answer the question. There is nothing misguided in there. There is no suggestion he not use a chip. The OP is not a cretin, it's an open thread and the information is there and clear to strongly suggest using a chip.

Wow there, do not measure me by your own standards, the op surely must be now wondering what the heck he started, wind your neck in troll.

Troll? Oh shut up you infuriating man, that's your main game on here. Yes you might be helpful, but you wind every one up and create arguments over absolutely nothing as above and that bloody Keith Chegwin thread. Haven't you got anything better to do in sunny Portugal? You seem to spend your life on here giving nothing but one-upmanship classes as of late over absolutely everything and everyone is noticing it. You might be very helpful in some things, but you're nauseatingly tiresome at the same time. You seem to have this holier-than-though attitude and never back down even when you're being a nause. Yes, this might seem cheek coming from me, but I was all for electing you to take on the forum's most annoying member. I think you would have won hands down over Alic, at least he's not a nob about it!

I'm done now, say what you want.

I did get a trophy though :innocent:

Could you guys take this in private please :)

To be honest, I'm done with the forum with people like this. I'm outta here.

Sorry folks, but I've seen this go on and on and one.

Thanks for your replies.... Sorry I've caused some issues
Not your fault, tensions can rise but it will cool off.

Just to take away, you can use a chip when going 14psi with exhaust and intake. In theory you can run 14psi stock ECU (one of my car's runs 12psi stock tune no problem at all), but it is more than power, a safety factor.

If you want more power, say you have a selin kit and intercoolers, maybe some intake pipework. You will need larger injectors and therefore get a map for the car.

That's not to say it's a bad idea to get a map on a 14psi setup.
