Hi Guys, The cars been going okay since i changed the part at the end of the wiring loom in front of the fan, cant remember its name for the life of me. But now its started to misfire again, i'm slowly going up the wall, One thing that i changed on my merc when it misfired was the Air flow sensor, Something i've not thought of changing in the Zed. Anyone got one or can recommend a place, cars a series 1 '90 N/A Auto. Shouldn't have got rid of my spare one...

Looks like it is mate. A fluke will show 0.L when in an open state and mine goes to 0.2 ohms and drops to 0 ohms after connecting the probes together for a few seconds.

Bin it and buy a new one. Good ones aren't expensive these days. Reliable test equipment is a must. :thumbup1:

The one I've used everyday for work for the last four years, it's reasonably priced and seems well made. No complaints about it, not just some old tat. The Philex 83001R. Pick them up on clearance for about a £10, they are about £20 in the shops. Even sell them in Argos

Yeah I bought one from Scewfix for a tenner. It singled out my duff injector.

It's incredible how cheap half decent tools are getting, good ones you've still got to pay for but the mid range stuff is so much better than it once was.

Richie is your car an NA?

  • Author

Sure is Stephen.

I've carried out the removal of material from the plenum to gain access to the screw. Does anyone know of any Aluminium Welders in the Cambridge area. you'll forgive me if i dont post for a while, i'm seriously thinking of ending it, this Bl00dy car! Arghhhh.... :hang:

Joely, thats what my friendly garage man said. He also said as its a na, so no turbos, the inlet would be relatively low pressure and low temp, so he suggested that compound which sets really hard and sticks.

Has any one got any experience with this type of material

Joely, thanks for the offer of the plenum, might take you up, Thanks a alot mate.

ps Chris/Joely, This is what these drugs do to me. As you know i've been looking everywhere for my "other" MM for the last 2 weeks, as most people do they have a vision of what it looks like. well in my minds eye i had this yellow box in a zipped bag, looked in first shed, looked in second shed, looked in living room, looked bleeding everywhere ..... twice. so Today i'm sitting outside contemplating what to do with the above, when BAM!! the yellow box i'm looking for is a room measuring tool with stud locator. the MM is a grey box, 10 mins later there i am looking at it in its fabric pouch, this is what i have to put up with in my life all the time.

oh, by the way, the MM was bleeding bu99ered

I wouldn't - if any of that compound were to break off internally, then you can wave goodbye to the entire engine. I'm sure there are NA intakes for sale somewhere.

what do they say " A picture paints a thousand words"

Whoops. Oh well these things happen. Time to pull the plenum and do the job properly. Have you considered changing to a set of late spec pintless injectors? They are better and in NA form quite available.

Stephen, hi. thanks for the idea, unfortunately the whole idea of this exercise was to sell the car, but thanks anyway.

I'm afraid you'll probably going to have to.

Agreed. I could be done but I wouldn't want to do it or have it done. The plenum needs to be removed, semi sealed and argon purged then welded and the rear face ground back. To do it properly. At which point replacement is a far better idea, esp as you've been offered one for free.

It's going to be more time consuming than expensive. The upper plenum gaskets aren't expensive.
