What on earth is happening in the car scene of late, ricers everywhere youtube , facebook you name it, all showing their latest drift skill and stick on bits from Halfords !!

But there is a worrying development and that is z32 seem fail play now, no more messing with Honda Civics and Scoobies lets get a zed and crucify it with stick on gash products and lairy paint work whilst doing nothing decent like cambelt or oil change.

There is as serious conversation right now on facebook about how to get the longest flames out of their 300zx exhaust, drilling the back box and fitting a spark plug wired to fire up the overun /unburnt fuel ?? WTH hell is wrong with these people ??

This kind if stuff is all due to the Fast and Furious mentality and has no place in true tuning or customising, I saw the exact same thing happen with Sierra Cosworth, once the heralded Fast Ford that managers and executives alike were happy to be seen in, as prices dropped in late nineties they got all chavved up, got rid of mine just in time thank goodness, loved it but seeing a 17 year old skidding around mcdonalds was enough for me to get out.

So is the 300zx going the same way, afraid I am seeing evidence that it maybe, only the low numbers around will stop it getting to out of hand I hope, but either way, please, please, please do not spit fire out of your exhaust, do not fit lash body kits or repaint in lairy colours, or the z32 will be joining the Honda and Toyota league........gulp!

.....for this reason I cringe when small meets here are arranged at McDonalds... there must be better places.

Honda Civic's with big exhausts must be the most annoying cars ever. There are several near me and that sound they make is dreadfull.

Could not agree more, the noise is without doubt not cool !!

No offence but you don't half sound like a moany old misery guts. As for 300ZX's being "chavved" I've seen 300ZX's with shit paint and tasteless bodywork for over ten years. It's slowly dying out now if anything but there's still a few ex Max Power readers clinging on. As for spitting flames out of the exhaust... That's just a bit of fun isn't it? Chill out mate, it's a nice day. Find a local beer garden and soothe your frayed nerves with a cold one.

Ha ha if you knew me Joe, then you would know I am about as chilled as you can get, spent my whole live around cars and as far as been a moany git, well yeh maybe but then I have done life`s apprenticeship and with that comes historic wisdom ( hopefully ) chilling between the pool, beach and kicking the locals asses in my M6 is more cool than most ! lol

It's all good mate, I just think the state of the modding "scene" is a lot healthier and more tasteful than it used to be 10 years ago. Every time you see a car with an ugly fibreglass body kit and big chrome wheels on at a show these days they stick out like a sore thumb. Thankfully this kind of modding is dying out.

True but if you go to japfest or modified nationals or whatever of that sort, they're all deep dish stanced cars, where camber is used for fitting the wrong wheel and stretching the tyres because the wheels were too wide for the wheel well. Just buy the right wheel ffs

Thankfully this scene has mostly steered clear of zeds, but some of the practices have rubbed off on some.

Yes and yes, zeds need respect not plastic stick on bits !! Nice one Joe.

Jeff

Unfortunately Ali is right about stanced cars though. Some of the asinine lengths people go to in order to have the widest wheels and the skinniest tyres on the lowest car possible is just ridiculous. It's gotten out of hand tbh. It's the kind of thing which makes the plod start pulling over modified cars and then that leads to new regulations because a few dipsticks took it too far.

If people want to rice there cars isnt it upto them how they want there car...Not everybody wants oem and all original ..People shouldnt judge people by there own standards..Its there car and there right to modify want they want....Yes i agree some mods are not appealing to others but just respect them for what they have done....i swear lately its like the druids of greater good these days..People need to get off there high horse and stand back a little...my 2p worth

Im not no spring chicken :)

Your only a young cub compared to me mate :)

Your as old as you feel...thats me written off then :) lols

Opinions:

Some are different than mine, I guess that is why they sell ice cream in so many flavors :cool3:

I joined the UK club because of Wheeler Dealers and them showing "England's "cottage industries. Here in the colonies (USA) :offtopic:

Well, we don't have them, either buy new or forget it. 300ZX's parts can get expensive, even when rebuilt. I like to think first and buy second.

I am going to buy one (its on my bucket list) and we all know when the end is near, simply because we take the list seriously.

I am in process of buying one right now (again). Sadly in USA there are lotta scams regarding these cars (just too good to be true) and it takes time and effort to sift through them. I can do the effort, however time is another thing.

Wheeler Dealers was a great show and a pity they are splitting up. Get out there and buy one Brad a good one will make you feel great.

There's not an enormous amount I can add to this discussion, but I will say this:

I don't do many shows as I'm usually too busy, but the local ones I do attend seem to draw a reasonable crowd to my Zed. People are either usually saying that it's nice to see such a good and tasteful example of a 300ZX, or they're asking what it is! To the general populace, these cars seem to be a pretty well-kept secret.

For the time being (and even though prices are certainly on the rise), these are still a (comparatively) cheap Japanese performance car and, as such, they'll continue to attract owners who aren't as appreciative of the car's virtues as we are. If they want to debase their own car with cheap tat and chavvy mods, let 'em - as has already been said, that simply makes our well maintained examples look better and better.

Well said Si - I could not agree more mate....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I love my Zed, it has a big up and over wing, two large tail pipes. Its missing enough badly sprayed black paint, that the original red is really starting to show and its just gone over 204,000 miles. If you love your car enough, care for it enough, dream about it enough then it doesn't matter what it looks like. Its the passion that matters, the feeling you get when you get behind the wheel and drive it, the looks you get when someone in some generic 66 plate white (goods) car winds down their windows and says "nice car mate".

For me its making old cars survive and making the kids of today find a passion and a dream. There isn't much on 4 wheels right now that the average person can afford and be exciting (maybe the GT86 and the new MX-5, but to me atleast still not even close to the 80/90s cars I grew up with)

at the end of the day a body kit is just that, its plastic that can be taken off. As long as the car is mot'ed, looked after and on the road, they are surviving and will not be confined to the pages of history (and page 86 of july 09 max power!)

Maybe it is more the attitude I am speaking of when folk talk of flame spitting exhaust etc. seems to devalue the very essence of what the 300zx was, fingers crossed the Corsa guys do not start buying into the Z scene or we are all doomed !! lol

Jeff

Gold mine and it's all mine!

I like Lee's response and wanted to chime in (pontificate?) again on this topic,

I also like rice, white, brown and wild (used to just eat it)..Now it has a new meaning also.

We need to give thanks to those who do any and all changes to 300ZX, they also use a lot of oem equipment and therefore parts are available. These are the wearable parts we all have in common. As long as demand remains high, producers will continue to make them. Also their knowledge base is good reference on certain areas. Whenever I see any mod to any car and if I got the time I'll stop, chat and encourage them (esp if 300ZX, I will make the time). Some of the stuff they take off is like Gold to us and it gives us a whole new and cheap source of oem parts. I do not have a 300ZX yet, but I do have a great list of where some things are, suspension, wheel & tires are fantastic. I went past a gas station other day and just about wrecked my car (rubber necking a 300ZX low rider, I turned around and stopped to talk to him,,he had 20" spinners for wheels, slammed down, upholstery was furry stuff, only think he was missing was fringe around the windows. I took a couple of maalox, tums and other stuff to keep my stomach from throwing up but we talked and guess what..He was proud of what he and buddies had done and I found out he has a lot of oem and aftermarket stuff in his garage that he took off when he bought the car, and they were cluttering up his garage now. They were in such a hurry to get his car done and drive it that whatever he / they took off,, was just put in garage. He said wheels had no curb rash, tires were good but profile was not on his car with them. Interior was leather and they took time and took it off seat frames, radio worked originally and had 6cd changer of course it was Bose and here is the kicker. One of the guys worked b4 at Nissan dealership when the 300ZX were brand new and he "carefully" took a lot of stuff out with the harnesses intact. When he said that I of course got the guys name and phone # , then I really started to look and ask questions, I did not let the fact that this stuff was worth a lot of money,,to him,,it was just in the way..When I looked in interior - the dash had been replaced with a 1957 4 door chevy one, I did not say a word or ask about oem dash, not even color..I just asked what he was running for engine, he opened hood and he was oem there, but he told me about the wiring his nissan guy had done and he said: his buddy really took his time and unhooked everything (did not cut) ,,kept the ecm however to make his new gauges work and other things he went from the connectors if possible or changed the sensors. Of course I got more telephone numbers and names, I stopped asking then and we just talked..I he had 20" spinners on the wheels and he could bounce the rear off the ground,,nasty!!,,Said soon they were gunna do the front to bounce also.

I might have to eat a few tacos and get the runs from them, but I am gunna get into that garage once I get my Z,,I already know a few spanish words and I intend to learn more,,,lol...

Poor guy,,,he has a new "Best Friend" and does not even know it,,,lol

Brad

PS: Fantastic paint job, oh ya his mother is widow - God help me,,,lol
