  • And they have arrived !

  • After the oil got contaminated and slightly washed down with fuel the turbos also ceased up. I decided to strip them and do the rebuild myself as the costs for that at the moment to be done profe

  • Well that was a quick trip, planned to stay to Thursday but unfortunately had to come back earlier.   At least Jimmer now has all parts to start an engine build.   Hopefully we wil

Yeh it has been,

Lots done but lots more to do.

looking at the engine its needs a good cleanup and I have a few issues with the lifters, few of them are very spongy when pushing on them.

Needing to remove them all and strip clean everything.

Not sure what to do with the piston heads as they look like crap. :(

A busy morning Lee well done.

They don't look too bad actually, you can still see bare metal and all the punchings on it, can use carb cleaner I think to clean the carbon off the pistons

You will always have some carbon build up on the top of the pistons as thats where all the explosions happen

This. Don't forget the stock configuration sucks in oil vapour to combust. I wouldn't go disturbing the short block, removing pistons etc unless you need to or want to rebuild it. Be worth running the pistons up and down the bores by turning the crank and inspecting the bores.

I wouldn't worry too much about the carbon, a bit or carb cleaner and a plastic scraper should get rid of the worst. They actually look clean to me. Personally I wouldn't have opened the engine up that far but it's done now. Your biggest challenge is going to be cleaning up the head gasket surfaces without scratching up the heads or getting debris in the block. A metal scraper will do the job on the block(don't dig it in) a softer scraper will be needed on the heads.

For the lifters, you can soak them in petrol to clean them out, purge out the oil using a small pin to move the check valve. Then get fresh oil in them. I think this is in the fsm

I did it in situe. Thing is I knew not to and got carried away. That whole thing was a mess, pan came off three times in the end.
