  • After the oil got contaminated and slightly washed down with fuel the turbos also ceased up. I decided to strip them and do the rebuild myself as the costs for that at the moment to be done profe

Its taken a long time coming to get all the parts together but i'm finally...

Getting my engine assembled.

Wiseco Pistons and Eagle rods at the ready, took me a good few hours to get them connected;

Biggest peeve with putting the rods on the pistons was the cir-clips.

Couple of hours later and with help from a proper wiseco piston installer all 6 were fitted in place.

Whole crank and piston assemble rotates smoothly and i've added some oil to lube the cylinders up prior and after the pistons got installed.

Hi Lee,Coming on nicely i see,Did you gap the rings prior ? The scraper rings are usually about right but the  compression ring usually need around 5 thou removing so they are in tolerance. If the gaps are smaller than they should be when the engine warms up the rings will bind and scuff the bores.

To be honest i was thinking of calling you and booking it in for you to build.

Already getting reservations about going any further as the bottom end assembly doesn't feel right.

Can you PM me with an estimate of a full build, i have everything here and can ship it all down.

I've gotten to a stage where i'm questioning everything i do and now i'm not comfortable doing any of it.

This is the last time i'm every doing anything like this and if it doesn't work i'll just sell up or set fire to it all.

Starting to get the nag to start on this long running project again.

Most of the parts have been boxed up for over a year, and the likes of the crank which is fitted to the block along with the pistons

will need dismantled again and checked over.

When i last tried to get this going the crank started to bind so i stopped what i was doing to avoid risk of me screwing it up again.

So this time i'm getting everything shipped down to Jimmer.

The block is wrapped up in plastic but i need to get the crank checked so i'll need to dismantle everything again this weekend.

More updates then.

So i have broke the engine apart again ?

And partially reassembled the heads ready to be sent to an engineer works to refurbish them.

However one of the cams seems to be binding so i'm not trusting them at all now.

The cam shafts have been stored in oil for the last few months and have only a small amount of surface oxidisation.

When placing the cams back on the heads the interior right bank seems to jam up compared to the rest and i haven't even put the caps on yet.

I would expect to be able to rotate a few mm which the other three do fine, also it seems to rock in position as if the middle section was higher seated.

So i found these guys who advertise refurbished heads with a trade in of the old ones.

Is this worth it costs wise and has anyone heard of these guys ?

£350 a side for refurbed heads.

I would rather get replacements with warranty which these guys do than risk another failure because of a faulty cam.

Hopefully there’s enough meat left on them to give them another machining session, but I’d personally much rather use a well recommended head specialist to overhaul the ones you have rather than take a punt on an eBay item.

The 48p heads are supposed to be an improved design over the 40p so you may aswell take advantage of that if you can and finding used 48p heads will be a challenge!

I’m with Nick, £500 for a fit and forget top end is a decent price on the grand scheme of things!

I'm getting Jimmer to do the build but need to ensure what i'm sending him id good for the job.

At the moment the heads i have seem to have issues in that the inner cams wont rotate properly.

The cams have been out the heads for 6 months now but have been stored in oil and i also ensured the caps were not mixed up.

When dismantled again a few of the valves dont move easily so i'm thinking they are bent.
