Well, as many may know, I have recently discovered that my lower radiator cross member has finally succumbed to the dreaded tin worm.

Hopefully, this is day one of my journey to successfully repairing it with a suitable replacement.

Wish me luck, I think I will need it.

So, today I started the dismantling of the front end, and within a couple of hours I had removed the front bumper etc'

This was done on the driveway, and I hope to complete the rest of the work in the garage, hopefully.

I have reached the point where I am unfamiliar with most of the critical items that now stand in my way, and would seriously appreciate some advice as to how I should proceed.

First question/concern that springs to mind is... Can I continue successfully with the car being in the garage?

The last thing I want to do is get half way through the strip down only to find that I do not have the correct access.

The car is drivable at the moment, but once I start taking various parts off she will become immobile.

Your help and advise would be very much appreciated.

I do hope so fingers crossed mate good luck for saturday and yes lets chat on sunday and admire your hard work.

I will try and get her finished tonight, that way I will have Friday afternoon to double check things.

Note to self, must remember to fill the washer bottle up.

Looking forward to speaking with you Saturday.

As for admiring my handy work, most of it is either out of site or covered in corrosion protection I'm afraid. :blushing:

Mind you, I do not have an under tray to fit, so some areas will be visible I guess.

You will have on Sunday.....if you want one???

Hi Pete, that's very good of you mate.

Without committing, would you be happy to bring it along on Sunday?

Can you give me a price also please?

It's important to have that fitted to keep engine bay temps down and efficiently cooled, I'd take Pete up on that offer [emoji106] It also goes a long way to keep the engine bay clean.

I take you point Joel, I will give it some serious thought mate.

That was the plan... to bring them on Sunday:thumbup1:

They are free so if you dont want them Ill just "fly tip" them in the Millenium Square:whistling:

:lol::lol::lol:

Them? I'll take one if you have more than one Pete, mine is in pretty poor condition! Or are you referring to both parts?

I have two front bumper ones and one engine one.

My engine cover is missing completely, and the ones either side are, let's say, completely knackered.

Well I will just chuck everything I have got in the back of my car. You can take what you want.

Just a quick note to say a big thank you to everyone that has helped, advised and even motivated me during this arduous venture.:thumbup:

Now... what can I weld next?

Well done an excellent job and a good write up for the forum, having done the job now I imagine you can clearly see how much it would have cost to be done at a bodyshop ??? think how much you have saved. TOP JOB

Thank you Jeff, I really do appreciate your comments.

As for the cost of having a body shop tackle it? I dread to think. :pinch:

I recon with all my faffing about, it took me in excess of 50 hours. :excl:

Just an update with regards to my pursuit for some sort of recompense reference the faulty Cross-Member issue.

Sadly, my efforts have all been in vain I'm afraid, and going by some of the comments made by the vendor, I am not surprised realy.

So, after some very good advice from some very eminent members, I feel that it is in the interest of all members that I disclose the source of the Item so as to help anyone else contemplating the same repair.

With truly the best intentions, the vendor was.... Concept Z Performance. (USA)
