Does anybody own or have owned an sl500 or sl55 Amg? I'm interested in maybe having one but I don't know much about them other than the fact the build quality maybe a little suspect and the abc suspension system is junk.

Yeah, that was built after they started to actually build cars again rather than put the parts in a box and prey they would workout where they needed to be on thier own. I'm looking at 05-06 cars and just wondered if they were built properly:scared:

Have you been on the MB club forum (http://www.mbclub.co.uk) and looked/asked? I have a E320 CDi and have had lots of

good advice and help from them over the years.

I have had a look on there but I prefer to ask away from those forums as I find you get a more unbiased opinion.

Is it as long as that. I remember it sitting there in ringwood when you got it. Why the change?

Changing jobs and the new one comes with a car - it'll be a C-Class.

I've got a 2003 Mercedes-Benz S55 Kompressor AMG. F##king immense car! 541bhp 604ft/lb and it sounds like the wrath of Satan.

Ah that makes sense. Enjoy the tax. Haha.

You haven't seen the salary I'm jumping to! ;)

What mpg do you get out of your s55? I do like the sound they make which means I will probably spend a fortune in fuel:biggrin:

That's the one I'm looking into. Thinking of down sizing:biggrin:

I must admit that the earlier versions of the SL55 AMG with their signature twin headlights are appealing.

That is still the best looking SL I reckon.....

Check out this place - I have always found them very helpful with all things MB related...

As for build quality issues, the "bad" years were (and don't quote me on that) around 1996 to 2004. Generally before or after that is OK. And after having 4 SLKs I am still very happy with the brand, that I am contemplating a new 3.0 v6 twin turbo to replace the current daily driver and compliment my Zed. It's either the SLC 43AMG - or, in the event I want something a little more practical, the C-Class coupe, C43 AMG.

After a chat with my local MB dealers the other day, I have priced these. Maybe I will, maybe I won't. Watch this space....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Congratulations on the new job Si.....

Company car tax on a Merc is not so bad - as with premium German motors (Audi/BMW/Merc) the emissions are generally lower than most comparable cars. It's the tax on fuel that's the killer. Unless you drive 12,000 PRIVATE miles a year, you're better off paying for your own fuel; it's cheaper than paying the tax. Just reclaim business fuel at circa 12p per mile...
