Hahaha! Dave is back!

Have you still got your slicktop then? You've moved house, so I assume it's moved gardens too! :)

Well life took very much a downward turn a couple years back and I had pretty much given up on it all. But after not even seeing the car for 2 years I had her transported the 100miles to me last weekend. Project Slicktop is 100% back on ! :hyper:

Unfortunately, having been sat under a cover a few years its not in the condition it was left and its turning into quite the restoration project now. It was previously waiting for paint, and while the body is still good there is quite a lot of engine corrosion.

I have the top end stripped down. Parts are being shot-blasted and powder-coated as we speak and I have a growing shopping list of new parts to order. Every bolt, hose, bearing and wiring loom is being replaced.

I'm probably going to pull the engine now too, which will allow me to to check the turbos/wastegates/clutch..etc and do some additional work to the sump and engine bay.

Its frustrating as it feels like Im taking backward steps with the car, but it is allowing me to do jobs (and upgrades) I couldn't do the first time. I've been designing a whole load of new parts that will be getting made over the coming weeks.

Glad to see you back, I always wondered what happened to your car.

Has the interior survived ok?

Moldy and covered in spiderwebs like an Indiana Jones film set ! No permanent damage thankfully, going to strip it all out and clean it up.

Welcome back Dave, looking forward to seeing the slickie progress!

Saw the photo of your car on a FB page, didn't put 2 + 2 together. Look forward to seeing the progress

Glad to see you back, I always wondered what happened to your car.

I also wondered what happened to the owner.

Good to see you have both survived whatever life threw at you.

Welcome back Dave, similar story to myself, I just got back a year ahead of you:thumbup1:

Welcome back Dave. How is your new career in Motorsport treating you, are you reaping the benefits of the brave move to becoming a mature student yet? Great to see the project back on track [emoji106]

Thanks. Really well, best decision I ever made :D 2.5years in now, promotion to Lead Engineer with my own team. The hours can be killer, especially early in the year around the F1 testing period.

Thanks Rich. So far just various lasercut and CNC machined replacement brackets and mounts.

Currently working on shorter 2.5" Aluminium Intake pipework with Vertical Flow Intercooler core and then a lightweight 3" turbo back Inconel Exhaust system with integrated X-pipe.

Ooooh!! Now that sounds like something I'd be interested in:thumbup:

For those that don't know Dave, here he is in action 11 years ago - click on the pic to get the video (black Z). My car is there too looking a little different to what it is today, this was only a few months after I'd bought it. The other white Z with all the fibreglass on it is Black-Zed's old car....who used to be called White-Zed.
