Quick question:

With the JDM models how to people usually wire for a rear fog?

 

I can see that the previous owner has at some point tried to wire in a connection from the switch pod but there's no obvious termination point for the wire and it looks to have been disconnected.

 

The wiring on the control pod is predictably... great, so it'll obviously be redone, just curious as to how you guys recommend I do it.

Mine was already wired when I got it. It has an illuminated rocker switch on the panel that goes under the steering wheel, positioned so you can see it. I wasn't too keen on the 80's style aftermarket fog lamp screwed to the bumper though, so took it off and fitted some bright red. LED's into the reverse-light housings.....

Mines next to the gear shifter, but i have also seen it drilled into the center panel next to the clock.

 

Like Steve illuminated rocker switch but mine is fixed to inner right side of pod.

Wire it up to the front fog relay so they come on at the same time. Been meaning to do this to mine for ages, haven't got round to it yet. Why on earth would you bother having a separate switch stuck on at some random place?!?

Mine are both wired into the same fog switch, looks much neater like that:thumbup1:

Mine is via a hidden switch in the kick panel, but I like the idea of wiring it directly into the front fog switch - if that's legal. I don't see any reason why it should be.

 

I switch out a bit of loom and a bulb holder for one of my rear fogs at MOT time as it's a converted reverse light. I have more use for 2 reverse lights than having a fog light that I never use....

With the JDM rear lights is there a place people use for the actual fog, or do people put the horrible looking fog next the plate?

 

I can literally see a length of wiring running from the cluster to the rear light unit but it's disconnected at the light unit.

 

It's definitely been through a number of MOTs previously with no bother about a fog so it was either a nice tester or its had a fog light previously.

As I recall it's normally in one of the chambers in the central panel of the rear lights.

As in one of the reflectors has been replaced or what?

 

A thought has struck me that it may be a UK spec light that's been wired in, where is the UK spec light?

UK's have noticeable 2 x fog lights built in to the bumper, 1 i believe is a dummy and i expect this'll be the L/H one.

 

In the reverse light panel a red 21w bulb can be used in the stock location (so swapping it for a clear reverse bulb) on the R/H side shining through the clear lens but as FunkySi has said you'll need to just have the cabin wiring on hand to connect to the multi plug whenever necessary, ie mot time.

 

Fyi a reverse light is not required for MOT and the fog light needs to be positioned anywhere from in the centre to the R/H side.

Having just been through this pain I can offer a reasonable response.

 

The right hand pod the bottom wire I think you will find is the side light feed. Check this with a meter. Now turn it off.

Link the side light to a cable which you feed under the dash and along the sill under the carpet, there's a few cables there. Up behind the quarter panel and into the boot.

Drill a 20mm hole in the right pod somewhere discreet and fit the fog light switch. It needs a tale tell. I used this one;

Wire your switch in. It would be sensible to put an inline spade fuse between the spur from the side light cable and your new switch.

Take the drivers side reversing light bulb and connect your new cable to the live side of the reverse light. The earth can be retained.

Now all you need is a red p21w bulb.

Bang one very descret and legal fog light.
