Doing a light check before MOT next week and all is well except when I press the brake pedal. Although both brake lights are working, the dash warning light comes on. Any ideas?

Are they led lights? It will be the change in resistance compared to a normal bulb I think, mine started doing it when I swapped to led bulbs. Not sure if that's an mot failure?

Nah, standard light bulbs. Can't remember if it did this before the winter work. Had the panel off the boot lid and there's a plug with 2 wires going nowhere. Would that have been for a high level brake light ?

Pretty sure a 3rd brake light is not part of the test and neither is a warning light coming on.

You could fit a dangling bulb at the end of the plug, pull the warning light bulb from the cluster or fit a load resistor on to the plugs 2 x wires.

Thanks guys. Might look at aftermarket high level lgiht. In the meantime, dangly bulb time. Warning light annoy me so it has to go. Cheers.

Don't forget a dangling filament bulb will get hot very quickly.

You'd need a load resistor per bulb that is missing, these just go across the neg and pos of the bulbs two wires.

With there only being 2 @ 21w instead of 4, does that mean the load resistor would have to compensate for the equivalent of 3 lamps @ 21w, so 63w?

A rear third brake light will fail if one or more bulb isnt working, but if none of them work it wont fail lol, i had this in the past lol

Iff you look closely then you should be able to just make out the text on the warning light in black,it should read "shite rear lights fitted"

Fluid integrity checked. 40% JD x 60% coke. Perfect. Agree with the rear light description but budget dictates style at least for the time being lol.

It must depend where you go for your not as my old silver zed had at least half the centre brake LEDs out and it never had an issue at mot time.

It certainly seems so lol,

Yes get yourself at least a 25w resistor per bulb but if i'm honest it's a 'load' of messing about when you can just pull the cluster bulb but eh it's up to you.

Ok sorry I did not chip in earlier was sort of hoping the quick and easy answer would come but seems not, so the lights alert system is very, very simple and is carried out by a small relay box that some will know about that is in the loom by the rear light on the drivers side.

The easiest way to stop the warning with the lights that are fitted is to eliminate the circuit through the lights out module, so basically link it out, side lights in and side lights out link and the same with brake lights in and out link, remove the power from the unit and all done no more lights out when braking and no need for load resisters etc.

I will find the wiring diagram and post it later with the link out colours.
