There has been a few interested parties that want to be apart of the NEC so I just wanted to gauge how many of you would like to take part this year.

This may not be for everyone as being the classic car show we need the highest of quality as we can for the show and a few rules to go.

1.) You need to arrive more than likely pre 9AM the day before the show starts for setup.

2.) Your zed can't be removed from the stand until the late evening of the following Sunday.

3.) The hotels may be part subsidised by the club but this depending on interest and costs. (we will know after we gauge the interest).

4.) Meals need to be paid for by the individuals, ie. its not JAE so we cant have a BBQ, :(

It will be later this year as I'm redoing the whole lot...!

What are you doing with it Si, are you sticking with red or changing the colour??

Same colour leather and Alcantara, mate - I'll be playing about with the design and layout though :thumbup1:

Worn trims and the like probably won't "pull their weight" under the kind of scrutiny that (I imagine) the show cars come under at something like the NEC...

The likes of Si, Joel and AndrewG will be better able to advise than I can though. :)

For myself, the standard I felt comfortable exhibiting the car at the NEC Classic car show was for her to look, feel and

smell as she could have done when coming off the Shatai line in November 1993. That's the OEM+ benchmark I aspire

to and having walked around the rest of the show pretty much all of the cars I saw were immaculate original examples

of their marque in every detail – bodywork, wheels, interior and engine bays. Although my car was not to the unbelievably

high standard or originality of many of the cars I saw, she didn’t look out of place either and I was happy with that and the

reception she got along with the other two Z32s on the Club stand. I came away from the show appreciating that every

detail counts when presenting cars at this level.

Project 1547 - Out of the Blue

She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went - Simply irresistible.

Well I'll never be putting mine in the show at the NEC then.. I don't have money or time dripping out of every hole and I don't even own a garage.

Mine lives on the drive as has every other car I've owned, I spend a ludicrous amount of time washing polishing and waxing to keep her looking her best, I guess mine will always be as it was meant to be.. Driven!

To me, a classic cars charm has always been a little wear and tear, I've never understood why someone would buy a car and just lock it away. If you want a perfect image buy a photo?

A car is meant to be driven, enjoyed and over time picks up its character from the wear. A great classic car has to have signs of use, it's like the lines on a humans face. Over the years you gather the marks of life, even if youre in great condition, those lines give you character. An untouched car is a sad thing to see.. Yes it may be perfect, but perfection shows a very dull life for a car.. Even if a car is fully restored, I'd still like to see the wear marks on the seats etc.. Signs of love from its owners...

Thats my view anyway.. I don't expect others to share the same view

Whilst Andrew, Simon and I try and keep our Z's looking immaculate (as I'm sure do many others in the club), they're very much "used and enjoyed". Our 1800 miles trip to the south of France has forged that on our odometers! I do appreciate your point though, there is definitely a fine (and difficult) balance when it comes to maintaining a level of detail, without being afraid to drive it or missing out on the experience!

As for the OP, I would be honoured and grateful to represent the club and the marque at the NEC 2016 if there is a position available [emoji41]

I get what you're saying here, but I think you're possibly looking at the situation wrongly...

This is a very prestigious show, which is partly designed to highlight "the cream of the crop" as it were. "Borderline immaculate" (as I put it before) would be a very nice condition for any of us to have our beloved cars in, but realistically, very few of them are.

Case in point: Ian Greenfield didn't want to put Zebedee forward for last year's show because he acknowledged that were a few niggles that he felt (and I'm paraphrasing here) might let down the overall presentation... a stonechipped front end was one of them, I believe.

Yes, these cars are designed to be driven and enjoyed, and most members do exactly that. The only car I can think of off the top of my head that doesn't really get driven anywhere is Jason Farrow's Beast and that has been built primarily for entering and winning shows. Everyone else's Zeds rack some miles up every year and some, like yours and indeed my own, live outside on a drive. That's not a bad thing at all (although a garage would be preferable, for me at least).

If you're aware that your trims and interior look tired, then spruce them up and put your car forward. :) Plenty of people have tidied their own trims up, rather than buying brand new ones - I only bought new ones because I had the money available at the time and, ultimately, I'd like my Zed to be an excellent example of the marque in the future. :)

In the case of the NEC show, presentation is simply everything. :thumbup1:

I mirror this in its entirety. I do try and keep mine as clean as possible and use it when I can, there is a fine balance for me with owning an older car between enjoying it and preservation. A classic is very much about preservation as it is its enjoyment and I try and stick to a happy medium, it's the reason I could not go full-concourse on it, but I do love seeing concourse cars. My car for example is certainly a used example, but as clean as I can have it as that's part of the fun of owning one too. Mine is purely a summer toy/weekend car, I've had the luxury of being able to garage it for the 10+ years I've owned it too.

I thoroughly enjoy buying loads of new bits and pieces from Nissan trying to make it as clean as possible - for me, in any case, that's really enjoyable. :)

The thing with shows like the NEC is that it there as showcase event bringing back the memories of what the cars were like when they were new. It's great to see the level of preservation and care gone into many of the cars there. Sure, a lot may not get used very often, that in itself is not sad as we're able to see finely preserved cars and that in itself is awesome!

I personally would not want to see heavily weathered cars there, it's not that sort of event. I want to see the best examples in the country of everything and generally that's what there is there. Awesome show.

So who's the judge of that? I consider the bodywork of my car to be prettymuch A1 the trims are showing their age a little but paint work is great. The tweed interior is the only thing letting it down really and requiring a good clean under the bonnet. Too afraid to get the steamer out and don't know how else to clean an engine bay to be honest.. However you clean it, you have to rinse the product off so how do you keep the water away?

You can judge if your Z is good enough and you have the time to exhibit it for the full show then the Committee will decide the best options that have been put forward.

As said there is only room for a handful of Z's and we have more interest in this show than Jae which can hold every Z in the club ! The decision of the Committee to move into the Classic show at the NEC has proved to be the right direction to go but we need a prestige show for all members in a central location. Coventry Museum would be ideal as you are in a city center location with public interest coming of the streets to view the Z's and plenty of interest for the members and there families with the Car Museum and local shops. Then after the show we could move to a hotel or campsite to spend the night. How does that sound?

Coventry sounds a good idea.. Forgive me, I seem to be venting frustration here as I've recently been let down on plans to finally buy a piece of land next to my house to finally get my garage built. Unfortunately, greed of the owner has stopped this and now I'll be looking to move if I ever want a garage.

My Z is in need of a warm dry place to be worked on and funding for parts etc is tight and they aren't getting any cheaper. I'm beginning to fear that I'll begin to watch a decline in the cars condition, simply through lack of a space to work and store her.

So forgive my little rants here, I'm just feeling sorry for myself as I'd love to get my car up to scratch, just keep running in to brick walls with plans made..

Frustrated at the thought that I can't get the car how I want it! Shed full of bits to fit and nowhere to fit them..

Anyway ignore the self pity! Lol

No worries mate we all get frustrated at times and you will get a garage someday I was without one for years but the waiting has payed of.

Think I'm a little to modded lol!!!

I'm pretty sure that they said a variety with some including slicktops verts and some missed examples etc so you should still put your name down if you can come :thumbup1:

And to add further comment, without wanting to take this thread away from the original question - what Gaz says above re another Coventry show, is what we are thinking as the club's major event for 2016 instead of JAE. It will be open to all; and with the additional option of an overnight stay and meal together on the Saturday night..... We'll make the enquiries and post a poll for everybody's input shortly:wink:

We'll do the NEC show as a finale to the year - and in our continued effort to promote the Z32 and the club. We'd like to have a big stand, but in all probability, we'll be lucky to get one suitable for 5 cars. So we have to manage expectations accordingly!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I would 100% be behind the move to Coventry...as it would allow any Z to be displayed.

Even with the direction I am going with on my car I doubt I will get it up to NEC standards without having it re sprayed.

TwinZ rear spoiler, paintwork, coilovers (dropping the car a little more).

What are you doing with your 99 spec spoiler?

With regard to the OP...I could be interested in taking part in the 2016 NEC event....and while I haven't been to the event as a spectator...it was after reading the thread on the clubs attendance at this year's show that I was compelled to try to bring my car up to the required standard...however having met Simon, Joel and Andrew at Beaulieu... and seeing just how good their cars are...I realised that achieving that level of presentation may be beyond my time and money resources!

I appreciate all that has been posted regarding costs....and personally think it very generous of the club to fund accommodation....seeing that this thread has sparked great interest from members...perhaps a slightly larger stand (was it for 4 cars this year?) and and less funding regarding accommodation may allow for more cars to be exhibited?

I think the most difficult thing is going to be how to choose the representatives...almost impossible I would have thought without seeing them in the flesh....so just as a thought...perhaps at a defined central club event (Coventry has been mentioned) all those wishing to be considered could attend and show their cars.... and a vote be taken by the committee and attending members on which cars should be submitted?

I agree that a combination of all of the original 300ZX configurations would be a great way to display the marque...as well as certain modified examples (GIBSTER-TT?) but that would be dependent on finding at least one of each in the required condition...which as Mondo eloquently puts it...they need to be "Borderline Immaculate"!

That's my 'two penneth' on the subject....and personally think it will be difficult to equal/better the cars representing the club at this years event...but then again I haven't been to many club events so far.....so I may be doing many member's cars an injustice!

[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Exaggeration is the enemy of credibility"

I like the idea of the Coventry meet, sounds ideal. As for the NEC, like so many of us, we just don't know if our cars are good enough. When I saw Dan's motor, (Gibster-TT) I realised just how much effort goes into the Zeds, mines come straight off the boat, serviced, driven and parked on my drive. It's bog standard apart from the previous owners mods, but in Great condition. I'm a maybe if the club wants a stock purple on show :-)

That's not a bad idea at all. For people that are unable to attend, it could be seen as a little unfair, but that in itself might encourage and drive a large interest for people to attend the event? I appreciate for the extreme Northerners and Southerners, it's not ideal, but it will always be a tough decision with so many interested parties. The likes of Dougal in HK and other members far away have an even tougher deal.

It could certainly form "part" of the decision making procedure? Ideally, the COTY winner would get automatic entry (the Golden Ticket!) if they so wish? I don't envy the committee in having to make this decision!
