Story goes a few months ago (without naming names) I brought a fibreglass bumper here on the forum and it looked great, so as its fibreglass gave it a test fit.......... bent! Don't fit i was expecting some fettling but when you take a closer look its had some rather extensive repair on the drivers side. messages the seller..... no reply. but as I was expecting work to need doing to it anyway I left it. but now iv taken it to my bodywork guy who has written it off im feeling a bit hard done by.

iv got oodles of photos showing its twisted but now got no clue if its too late to at least try sort this out?

just looking for advice

Thanks :3

A quick search and I found who you bought the bumper from. It is not from one of our traders so as its a sale from a subscribed member you will have to keep trying to contact him by pm or any other contact details you have. The seller was last on the forum in September so do you have a phone number or email for him?

thanks because i paid via paypal i have email so ill send him another email. and i guess i can take it up with paypal but i think thats a long shot.

thanks

yeah thats what i was thinking, just have to hope the guy is gunna be honest about it

Is it not possible to apply a little heat to twist it back

Could be a fibreglass one, if bent your pretty stuffed. Also he said extensive repair on drivers side so I recon its more than just bend it back.

If you paid PayPal via gift, all you can do is hope for him to contact you. Else make a case with PayPal as product was not as described.

from above you can see the bottom pokes out more than the front, it dont seem too much but by the time you get to the end of the bumper that length exaggerates the twist

here you can see it is somewhat fitted, by that i mean the other side hanging off, its a case of fit one side or the other not both

not one to give it i fitted it without the metal bracket, the one on the floor. with a little force it can just about meet the studs on the wings. but when you compare the sides the passenger side is straight

whereas the drivers side is kicking out towards the bottom. can also see how the centre scoop is changing size from one side to the other

this is just typical fiberglass stuff mate .. nothing is never right .. even the twinz design stuff needed work to make it fit nice ..

and tbh what i can see in your pics is not bad to some of the Shite iv seen thats come from ebay

i know they take felting but just under the fog light on the back some of the fibreglass is about 3/4 inch thick so not repairable :( kinda sucks as its actually an attractive bumper

No its not typical fibreglass when a bodyshop says its not possible to make it looke right. Its absolutely rubbish fibreglass moulding and should be returned for another one (better obviously) or a refund. Its obviously an 'amateur' production job and should not be sold on. Contact the seller with regard to a refund and if no positive responce is forthcoming, name and shame and then get his address from Paypal and issue a County Court summons through the small claims court. He then had to pay or turn up to defend himself in court. If he ignores it, pay the £169 for a Bailiff visit to remove goods to the value. All these costs will be added to the amount owed. It certainly focuses their mind once you start the proceedure.

calm down m8 .. it was a out spoken comment about fiberglass stuff in Gen .. Most of it is poor .. just like u said some bloke doing amateur products in his garage most likely

dont think it will come down to going to Court im sure

nope, it was sold as used but its not been fitted since its been repaired

Is it possible to bend the bumper so that it can be bolted on fully. At which time does it look normal?

Even though it has been repaired, if all the bolts pull it to shape it may be what you will just have to live with as you have said the bumper was used and repaired when bought.

If you really are not happy I would think the seller would be kind enough to give you a refund (negotiating postage) but if he said used and repaired then...

I agree, fibreglass parts such as these bumpers never fit or look right, even after much fettling by a bodyshop, come on guys we all know that making a oem urethane bumper fit just right takes patience.

Sorry to hear your problems but I wouldn't expect anything less from a fibreglass part such as this.

I very much doubt PayPal would simply give out an address due to DPA. Especially if you sent someone money as a gift. Like wise, if it's the for sale thread I found, I can't see it being worth the effort or cost of taking it further imo. Plus wouldn't you need to pay solicitor fees etc for a county court judgment? All sounds like it'd outweigh the cost of the bumper and a replacement.

Sadly, this kind of thing is why I've never really sold any of the awesome stuff I have lying around, I would hate for anyone to think I'd purposely sell anything that's duff as i simply wouldn't.

As long as your honest mate, there's never an issue really. If you are honest as well then there's no come back.

It is infuriating when you buy something to 'enhance' the look of your pride and joy only to find that it actually detracts from its appearance and so a waste of money. Yes of fibre glass products can need 'adjustments' but when a bodyshop say that its not possible because of the poor state then you know that someone has taken you for a ride. Thats the bit that really boils my blood and unless the seller is cooperative, then you need to get just as nasty as them. If your Paypal account is linked to your credit card, under the distance selling regulations, you are entitled to a refund from your card provider who will then recover the money from Paypal who will then recover the money back from the seller. If you use the County Court which is now the Small Claims Service ( I.e. less than £5000), then a fee is applied of £32 but is then added to the original claim amount which has to be then paid by the seller. No solicitor is needed and can be done online. Hopefully the seller will also read this and see some common sense and be in touch.
