What started off as a heater hose replacement has ended up with a few other bits getting looked at.Took the air filters out. Dont think they have been out before. Car has done 45k genuine. Worth replacing with aftermarket or are straight replacements just as good? 91 TT auto.

I can't for one minute think they've been in there since the car was new, but they've probably been in there a while.

I would get an aftermarket replacement - A'pexi are generally considered the best, but JWT are also pretty good.

Still the original Jap details on them and they are filthy. Car was laid up for about 8 years so possible...

after many years and many cars ide tend to stick with the original airbox now iff i had another zed...to many have been butched out and replaced with low performance tat!! not to mention water ingress ect. advice from me..keep the airbox and get some free flowing OEM type panel filters,K&N do them for our cars;)

Bloodyhell Jeff..after reading that link and then looking at the date ime scared how time flys..that felt like a couple of years ago:scared:

I know tell me about it, having trouble remembering about when I bought my first zed in 1997 and thinking how complicated it looked ! ha ha

Mad thing was I looked at UK spec one at the time for £24k at a Nissan garage and then saw the one I bought at another garage which was an import for £7k!! there was a huge difference in price then between the two as "grey imports" were so misunderstood then.

Somehow I just knew I would get the best answers on here. Going for K&N panel filters as direct replacements. Thanks once again for the great advice guys.

So, what would the performance differences be between a panel filter and an induction kit / cone filter

I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:

Concept Z is where I got mine, reasonably cheap. If you're looking for big power it might be worth giving more thought though, my car is NA and unmodified so it's not a big deal to me whether they're as good as other filters.

When taken in isolation - negligible, I reckon..... Claims of (noticeable) power increases upon swapping air filters should be taken with a pinch of salt - improved airflow is just a small part of tuning and really only show benefits when upgraded along with other performance enhancing measures. I'm no expert though - I'd wait to see what Noz has to say:cool:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
