It pains me to type this but ime feeling i need a Porche in my life....midlife thingy i dont know but ime after a sunday morning toy, ive always loved the 911 right back to the 80,s targa tops. I know we have some serious petrolheads in the house so ime after some ideas and thoughts bearing in mind i want something from the 911 stable and have a budget of around £20K...There are stipulations to your task, nothing with the word "Boxter" in it and "mutinity and should be a jap car".. I love my Zeds but i also love the Porche pedigree too:)

having had 2 porsches now unless your spending like 50k on a turbo the rest are very under powered indeed i have also been in a few 911s a 996 and a 997 3,8 both felt under powered. also been in 80s 911 and again slow but look like

I'll just share this picture of a 993 GT2 just for the hell of it...

.... But you'll need considerable more than £20k for one! :tt2:

you can get a 997 3.6 for 20k but not nuff power

Arnt they just shy of 300...which from a 997 sized car would be ample. Dont forget Dan were talking 300 "reliable" pony power day in day out.

jesus thats nice....

round that 300 to 350 ish in the 3.8 but i have been in both and spending that much i would just want more power for my money.

997 is plenty quick enough Bri....

....But why not also consider that V8 beast? For £20k you can get a very nice 928GT/GTS - I know what I'd go for.....:whistling:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Can't say a bad word about a Porsche but to me they just don't justify the price. What about an NSX in that price range?

Honestly from a driving perspective I think I'd rather a TT Z.

yep thats the bug in the equation Richard as you know you and i have always loved the 928...what puts me off is the depreciation factor.

*****cks I've seen the size of you

You only live once, I have to drive my brothers 993 every now and again while he is away working. It is a great car to drive, it sticks to the road like glue no roll on corners just point it and drive, great for country lanes, I love my Z also it is much easier to drive but when cornering at high speed the Z will drift while the Porsche is solid and gives you much more confidence. 993, 996, 997 very nice and you will get more than you paid when you sell.

Go and test drive some.

Maybe Bri - but not so much anymore!! Time was, a decent 928 s4/GT could be had for circa £8k. Now they all seem to be heading a lot further north of that; with only high milers fetching £10k or below. They've depreciated all they will now I reckon - and since the rough ones are disappearing quickly, prices are on the up. For the V8 grand-daddy of GT cars, with Porsche's heritage factored in, I'd say a late model 928 is a sound investment.....

No - just no - not if it were my money.....

As much as I respect the cars, I'd not buy one - Clichéd and overdone IMO; I'd stick with the Porsche for sure. Even the humble Boxster would find its way into my garage before a Skyline!

having had a boxster i would for sure take the good skyline over it

I didn't buy a Boxster S purely down to the lack of luggage space; so whilst I haven't owned one, I did test drive the S for comparison and would definitely 100% pick it over a Skyline!! But this is not my "new toy" thread - it's Brian's..... And given Bri's current leanings towards a 911 (or perhaps a 928), then either of those would be on my list of cars; some considerable way above a Skylark!

Stuttgart all the way....:clap::wink:

i had the s 3.2, was to slow there 260bhp stock i got mine to 300bhp the let down was the clutch and the non lsd diff, if you was just driving it round town then its ok and well made but even with the 300bhp just felt to slow for me at least,

tvr :thumbup1:

If it was me I would go for this:
