The rebuild is complete and its MOT time.

Driving to the garage that done the respray at about 8AM tomorrow for a quick check over

then they will take it to the MOT station for a 1:30PM test.

Nervous as hell about it so hope all goes well.

The only issue I can foresee is that its a 1996 and I decatted it but I'll just say it was a 1992

and it was imported in 1996 or something.

Sounds a bit excessive and alarmist doesn't it.

If I took a car with a newly-built engine to a garage and the staff were telling me that the engine was potentially knackered then yeah, I'd be taking it somewhere else.

What's excessive or alarmist about that?

If the second garage gave a similar report on the newly built engine would you take it to a third etc? If a customer came to my garage I'd encourage them to get a second opinion if the engine is rattling or knocking, but if its buggered.....its buggered.

(I hope the garage are wrong on this. I havent commented much but ive read your build over the last couple of yrs and you deserve a break mate)

Good luck

Nope, I wouldn't. But a second opinion is definitely called for, whether it's from another garage or the builder himself. Which simply proves my point that nothing I said was alarmist or excessive.

I mean them not you.

Gutted for you Lee:( so much work gone in to this,I was looking forward to seeing your zed so you must be gutted, these cars are very testing at times.

Most of the issues don't seem too bad

The last two can be sorted.

The rear wheel bearing is not a bad fix, just have to get hold of one.

The engine is probably a setup issue, have you boost leak tested it, is the timing correct (auto conversion), are your pcvs ok. I'm sure it's something small

I've been through lots of little teething problems with mine, you will get there in the end. Chin up

Jimmer has good rear bearings for sale if you need them. They're used, but they're very good.

Sorry your car didn't pass, but to be honest, they're easy enough fixes. :)

Not being a mechanic but I know if my engine was knackered before I dropped it off for the MOT!

But urs has just being rebuilt? So how do they come to that diagnosis???

So so sorry to hear this Lee, after all the time, blood, sweat, tears and cash you've put into this car mate, I really do feel for you:crying::sad:, hopefully it's not as bad as the garage are making out. My fingers are crossed for you. Don't let it get you down though, if you need anything ... be it to have a chat/vent etc you can pm me and we'll take it from there, chin up matey:thumbup1:

Well if I'm honest i would not cross your bridges just yet because some mot place has said its had it.I'm sure you'd have heard a problem if it had one engine wise.So before its condemned shouldnt Lee be looking at it first before all eventualities are played out on here.

A little bit of smoke of any kind doesn't mean anything is broken.

If you've driven the car you must know how it feels, oil pressure, etc?

Currently gathering quotes to get the zed picked up and trailered to Lee's.

Best one so far is £372

Also had a lengthy chat with Lee so nothing between us is on bad terms and the plan is to get the zed to him asap

then we can go from there.

With the other issues reported they are easy fixes.

I checked the top camber arm last night and it turns out its just the adjustable bolt that's loose, although I took the

full bloody thing off before noticing and now I cant get it to line up properly to fit the bugger back on.

With the wheel bearings Lee also suggested they don't often fail and they are on a spline and more than likely the bolt

is loose; well then I remembered two years ago I had the full back end off when I fitted my Driftworks kit and I never

torqued up the bolts so they likely are slack.

The side indicator on the drivers side was just a loose bulb which was working the night before which was fixed onsite.

I also discovered that both my alloys are slightly buckled so I now also have an excuse to get new ones. :)

Small problems that can be fixed and i'll update on the engine tonight when I take a proper running video.

Have they actually told you why they believe your engine to be knackered...?

Same question here tbh

All they said was it sounds like a bottom end issue like the crank / shells.

But they said I shouldn't be driving it as it may cause more damage.

Also said that it had low oil pressure, but after I checked the manual I think that's ok for idle.

I'm going to wire up my aftermarket gauges tonight to get a proper digital reading.

I bet all you have is a bit of lifter rattle as it's been sat for so long! It's burning off residue etc. Needs a good few hundred miles under its belt. Where does the needle sit when the car is up to temperature?

I'll do a full video tonight and its booked in for an independant mot in troon tomorrow.

This time i wont mention anything before hand and see what they say.

Apart from the engine there is 4 faults which i can fix today and tomorrow.

Slight play in both rear wheel bearings, front left camber needs fixed.

Thats it.

check the bottom crank pulley hasn't separated the outer section from the centre piece..... mine did this and it sounded just like that...... the give away was my timing marks said I was miles out using a timing gun...

The dampener goes and it slips.....

Just an idea......?

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!
