Just bought a new HKS oil filter and it arrived today but it looks tiny to me !

 

Sure the thread size is ok but its only 60mm compared to the 75mm of a normal one.

 

Here's its pictured next to a coke can for scale.

 

They do vary in size a bit, the high performance ones are sometimes smaller.

I have the K&N one but it is the same size as a stock one !!

The filter I had was a K&N Filter and it was the same size as the oem

it is fine for the VG engine ... it was originally made for the RB engine filtration is still just as good .. Flow is a little faster

I've just ordered one, and it looks the same as stock!

Its clearly 1/2 the size near enough.

 

But in my case its handy as my sandwich plate adds an inch to the overall size.

Be careful their tolerance are sh.t had one leak as it didn't go tight, get the nismo one its much better,

I've got one of those hks oil filters on my zed brought 2 when they were discounted had no problems with leaks or oil flow .

I might switch to the k&n ones once I've used up my stock. It's got a nut on the bottom, would make life easier.

I used the k&n on my old silver n/a, good filter and easy to fit/remove.

What real benefits would this offer over a standard filter, really?

Probably nothing really, maybe a slightly faster flow.

Ran one on mine for a year, along with HKS 10W45 oil (made by Idemitsu). There's nothing wrong with them whatsoever.
