"A car for the masses" they say. But it wont be the choice of the enthusiast  Keep your 300zx in good order as the Z dynasty as we know it is ending

The last great Z is the Nismo 370Z and it will struggle to get away from a 300zx or even stay with one.

Like taking a tiger and pulling all its teeth out.

When they said the Pulsar was relaunching I thought ooo a hot hatch at last. We got the most dull effort ever.

The good news - I think it will make our Zed's more desirable with true motoring enthusiasts

The bad news - Dilution of the Z brand. It's like slapping a "Cooper" badge on most Mini's, making a Fiat 500L and introducing the Mustang with a poultry 2 litre engine

Come on Nissan, you have an iconic brand with the Z, give it the respect it deserves :dots:

Completely agree Ian.... I was very disappointed with the Pulsar too.

Nissan have clearly lost the plot if they believe that should be the next Zed!

They had the sporty crossover in the form of the Murano (same engine as the 350z). The current Murano on the American market uses a similar engine also, however it's turned into more of a luxobarge. With the Juke Nismo and Qasqai, it's very hard to see exactly where this will fit in. It'll be something similar in concept to the BMW X6 3-door I'd guess.

I am not convinced this will actually go ahead as it will eat into Juke sales, I'd say they'd be reducing their own market to a degree. Having said that, 370z sales in Europe haven't been all that spectacular unlike that of North America where they've continued to be as strong as ever - North America is where the majority of the demand actually is and whilst SUVs and crossovers are popular in the US, this will add yet another SUV type vehicle to the lineup which already the Juke, Rogue (Qashqai), Pathfinder, XTerra Murano AND Armada which is ridiculous.

North American Nissan however is a much stronger brand than it is over here (and subsequently has a more enticing model range). NMUK are just an accountancy firm churning out stuff so bland, it's like eating flour. The Micra is now built in India and looks more dated than the car it replaced. The Pulsar was a complete and utter disappointment. It was a name I was really hoping they'd be bringing back and bringing back with it, some well needed flare in their 'car' market. Alas, it was not to be and what was launched quickly went unnoticed. The Note - it's basically a rebadged Modus and again, has all the excitement of Swiss cheese. NMUK also do absolutely nothing for their own enthusiast base either and for me, just seen as a supplier of white goods - they are a success however as a business - just not as a manufacturer of striking machines. I'd imagine, if they had their way, this new 'Z' would be a sports crossover.

I'm not convinced the market needs yet another jacked up hatchback - or even a jacked up coupe. The market for a 'personal' sports car is still there I think as the GTR is now approaching the £80k price tag - I just think NMUK just need to do a better job of marketing it as there will be a gap left.

That's much more like it! You can actually see the mark 4 Supra in that design

When you see the pictures of the new 2018 Toyota Supra you would of thought Nissan would compete with it and not go a different direction. Come on Nissan don't throw all your eggs in with the GTR.

Hold on - the GTR does complete with it...and Toyota have nothing else to complete with the GTR...lol Your sentence doesn't make any sense. :p

A new GTR is planned.

Fire breathing Zeds died at the millennium. The 33 and 34 whilst both perfectly good competent cars are not of the same league by comparison. The are built to a price and are not flagship cars. In 1989 300hp was big power, now it's hatchback country, not even bonkers special hatches just hot hatch land. The z32 was the GTR of its day. Let's not forget, the R35 is not a skyline per say, it's not a saloon car even. It's a large luxury coupe with a twin turbo v6 that's aiming to be a Japanese super car, sound familiar? To my mind it's a love child between z32 and r34 with modern world technology and power. The z33 is like a NA Swb version of a GTR in a way, you get some of the looks but without paying so much and without the power.

A late spec 33 is faster than a 32 and a 32 will struggle to keep up with a 34 standard. That's in a straight line. Stock for stock these newer

Zeds are a lot more composed. They damn well should be being a decade newer.

Rumours of a 390z and a 4 banger version, then that weird iDX that was due to replace the Z. It's a rumour mill, one that's been going round and round. Unfortunately there isn't room or funding for two flagship nissans, we will not get a 600hp Z35 costing half a mortgage. Sorry but it won't happen, they won't even provide a true skyline GTR. The GTR is the one flagship and I can't see that changing. Nissan want to compete with the BRZ and GT86 a much more budget market. Personally I think put the poor zed to bed, the last two were a step backwards. If you want a cheap, esp if it's a smaller displacement 4 banger etc, bring back the silvia. It's a name that will get the kids excited far more anyway.

They are bringing out a bonkers pulsar gtiR.

Sadly, this is all just as we should have come to expect.....

....GTR, Lexus LFA and (when it arrives) the new NSX aside, Japan has long since lost the plot with decent sports cars. Nissan, Toyota and Honda are just interested in making beige cars for greying folks who care more for comfortable shoes, trousers and care homes. That, and families with 4-plus kids who want an MPV. Only Mazda has kept up, by persevering with the MX5 - as good as it is, it's too far down on any real power to qualify for a proper sports/super car.

Even in the hot hatch market, as good as the new Honda Civic Type R appears - it's never really going to be as good as the Golf R. Fast, it might be - but 300bhp+ through the front wheels (compared to the 4x4 Golf); and quality of finish? No contest!!

Sorry - but despite being a Jap-car aficionado since 1994, Germany is the choice of today.

You want a top-notch, quality, Japanese sports coupe - then you have to go retro; with the Z32, the Supra, the 3000GT, the RX7 and the mighty NSX. Unless you want to spend ££s, then you have the GTR and (if you have really deep pockets), the LFA!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Having just done the rounds looking for something beige for the wife, the price differences or lack are very surprising. Toyota and Mazda were more expensive than VW iirc! They certainly were not substantially cheaper. I walked out of Hyundai laughing, seriously since when did cheap Korean cars suddenly command Europeon money, I know they are catching up and look much better these days but come on. I must admit I walked straight past Nissan, I don't like anything they make atm other than the 370 and GTR, neither of which are ideal boxes for madam or within the budget. Skoda was in the end the best quality for price that I found imo.

It has been said before but the "Z" brand has always generally been associated with affordable sporty motoring. The 350 and the 370 fill the same market as the 240 did. Arguably, the Z32 was the odd one of the bunch, we have the defectors of the generation as the (relatively more) expensive fire breathing Z.

You are correct there Joel. Every time Nissan themselves comment, they say stuff like we want to return to the 240 concept, you never hear them claim to want to return to the Z32 as it was a bit of a freak.
