Welding up the brake light hole, for perspex stip WO braklight?

Hey,

I plan to fit a perspex strip (WO brake light) once my Zed is painted. I was planning to weld up the brake light hole in case for some reason the centre of the perspex strip was ever pushed on, obviously with a gaping hole behind it, I'm guessing it will crack?

I've never had, or seen the perspex strip, other than in pics, so not sure how it attaches, or if there is an insert or something, can anyone tell me if welding up the hole is ok?

Cheers!

The hole is so thin i really wouldnt bother, the strip that comes with the brake light is made of the same material aside from the rear of it which houses the bulb holders. You will not push it in lol

Cheers, I guess I read so many stories about how easily the Perspex stips snap that I figured the empty brake light gap was a potential weak point once the strip was fixed to it.

I've already measured and cut the plate to fill the hole, figured it would stop water getting in too, as it goes straight through to the boot. I don't know go much the perspex strip seals the tail gate once on.

the back of the perspex strip with or without braklight are the same, only difference on the non brake light version is brake light area has smoked perspex ocer it, but it still has the holes for the lamp holders in the back etc, this slots into the opening of the tailgate so if you weld it up the strip won't fit

I get it now, I had assumed that the strip without a brake light would just be flat across the back, and covered the brake light hole. Just as well I checked.

Cheers all!

It breaks probably because some people just yank it off. It's held in by little blue clips and a nut and bolt on either end(accessible once boot trim is removed) If you need to remove it just use long reach pliers and be gentle. It's it length that makes it fragile. Also the brake light bit is still there and has foam around it to seal. The price difference between them is absurd.

They only ever crack on the end bits due to miss-handling on removal or over tightening. A valueless job welding up the TBL aperture, it won't prevent anything.
