After having LED lights on some external aspects I've decided to go back to incandescent bulbs. I'll keep my remaining interior LEDs...I think and certainly I'll be getting Groover to install them all in my dash and pods.

However, I find that the blue hue emitted from 'super white' conventional LED replacement blubs such as the 501 bulbs found in the sidelights and number plate illumination looks decidedly 'boyracer-ish'. I'm also removing the 6000k HIDs I fitted about 6 years ago and replacing them with 4300k - again (in my brand new headlights), MUCH less of a blue hue and should give better light output, much whiter and shouldn't clash too much with the regular incandescent sidelight bulbs.

I was having a conversation with JoelyP the other day and he's removed his LED number plate light illumination and reverted back to incandescent bulbs where white illumination is present. Now gone is the slightly chavy blue-hue illumination reminiscent of undercar neons! lol

Anyone else moving away from external white LED bulbs?

4300k are close to OEM emission and are brighter than most of the more common colour ranges such as 6000k. 6000k is pretty good, anymore and you get light degradation and a crappy blue light. 4300k are probably the brightest of all colour ranges. :)

It's a difficult one. I thought hids looked quite as right when paired with halogen side lights

So the question is....

What are you going to do with all those nasty little LED's and HID's???

I'd be willing to take them off ya!!:whistling::whistling::innocent::innocent:

Some leds look ok si, new audi and bmws have led number plate bulbs and look good especially on a white car it's a clean light I find the halogen bulbs look dirty and yellow,

I have the 501canbus error free bulbs with about 6leds on one in my misses espace which has factory hids and it looks just right, it had halogen 501 sidelight which looked horrible,

have the same in my zed can't remember the colour difference to my hids but I never noticed it, maybe try some different led side lights,

Si what do you think of the 5000k hids? I was planning to swap my 6000's for them thinking they'd remove the blueness?

I have 5000k on my 300 and 6000k on my Vectra for comparison, here you go............

You're 'slightly' late. I'd have course have said yes and for free too. But someone else messaged me within a few hours of this thread going up. Sorry dude. You're welcome to the SMD LED sidelights thought.

I agree - their technology is a lot better. My Insignia has really nice DRL LEDs and they're pure white.

I've dried many different types - they're all much of a muchness.

I don't think there's much difference between the 5000k HIDs - JoelyP has those and they do look good. Because I'm going back to regular sidelight bulbs, I feel the 4300K will look more 'oem' and hopefully without any blue hue to them at all.

The first HID kit I bought was with 6000k bulbs, ever since I've been buying 5000k but very recently I bought 4300k ones and as Simon points out output is very similar and the best between the two, colour also the desired.

I just wonder Si, if you just haven't found the right aftermarket white bulbs or set up.

It is only very recently I got the ones linked below and I use these for my front corner side lights and is the same I use for the reverse lights and to be honest many I have used, led, or smd before have been a bit weedy !!

Get what you pay for I guess, chamber needs to be right and bulb holder therefore, then the indicator part as got to be considered.

The ones I currently have are SMD. I'm only fitting the 501 style in my fog lights. I've tried expensive and cheap ones.....very little difference. You know me though, I'm just super fussy! lol

If you don't mind Si ? It'll give me a starting point for lighting as I reckon I'll be changing most of the bulbs anyways. Let me know if you want a few quid, I'll pm you my address.

Thanks again mate.

Every single LED now removed and boy is it nicer! I've reverted back to incandescent dash clock bulbs and not only does the dimmer now work again, but the clocks are much nicer on the eye at night, a much softer and more evenly spread light. Gone too are the aluminium dial surrounds and it's back to looking how it would have done, some might say that's too plain, but to be honest, it's less fussy and looks a little cleaner.

You can certainly get White LED bulbs without the blue hue. I went through several (eBay) suppliers before finding some that matched my 4300k HID's and they look a LOT better than the mismatched light from an incandescent bulb.

So when are you posting the dial rings to me Si?

I was waiting for you to get back to me with a replacement dial fascia to swap and never heard back. They've gone to someone else now I'm afraid.

Not sure I agree with that. LEDs look out of place IMO and I have tried many many different types of varying brightness and never felt they looked right on a near 30 year old car as timeless as it is.

On a slightly different note, I saw a 1960's Trumph Spitfire yesterday and someone had put LED halo DRL lights in it, how I laughed and cringed at the same time!

I had bright WHITE Led bulbls in my sidelights for agaes

I well as the dipped circuit also put HIDS in the main beam and fogs and they worked absolutely brilliantly
